Well done to Brian Cook and the team for posting a profit on the year 2000.

This takes into account the losses made at Colonial Stadium, before any sought of compensation from the AFL. (if any should be coming at all)

It finally looks as though we're back.

All in all, a profit of $100,000, while not in the same class as the Eagles, Crows, Power and Bombers, it's a start.

Want to here the best part?

According to Brian Cook, The move to the MCG for some home games next season, is NOT based on finances after the losses made at Colonial, it is based on the fact that Geelong has too many members and supporters for Colonial to hold as more than 50% of supporters and members live outside Geelong.

The MCG is the only ground that can accommodate our magnitude of supporters!

WOO HOO!

PS:And before anyone points out that Essendon play home games at Colonial as well, let me remind people, that Essendon has a monopoly on the people that can enter the ground for their home games. They expect 90% of the crowd to be Essendon members, whereas every other club doesn't - Hawthorn, Melbourne and Collingwood are prime examples.

Well done Cats, just goes to show what a good coach can do, don't forget Bomber was recruiting members on his mobile phone.
All in all, you just have to mimic that drive & iniative on the field.

Well done catters!

It must be good to know that your side fits into the AFL's plans.

I could not imagine that the AFL would be so receptive towards one of at least 6 Melbourne based clubs who were to fall over $7 million is debt.

Oh please! How many sell out games did Geelong have Colonial?

I can think of two - The game against Essendon earlier in the year and the final against the hawks.

SAINTER -Geelong got more people to the Essendon game than StKilda would of got in 5 home games at colonial.
Was it not the North v StKilda game at Colonial late in the year ,that the top deck of Colonial was shut to make the crowd look bigger on TV ?

Geelong got 35,000 against Richmond,48,000 against Essendon and a sell out against Hawthorn.I'd like to StKilda get that many to their games -Pigs Arse.

Well done Cats.

PS the Cats Hawks final was not a sell-out. I think a lot of hawk fans are boycotting the place. Those of us who go quite like it, especially only one loss from five or so games so far.

JUBJUB,

I was mainly referring to Brian Cook's comments. I do not believe that Geelong's supporter base is too big for Colonial.

That is why I named Geelong's sell out games for the year, which it appears was only one.

As for Geelong getting 5 times as many supporters to their home matches against Essendon than us, I can't really answer. We haven't played a home game against the bombers for years. The last one was at Waverley, in 1997 I think. The crowd was just over 50,000. That is unless one of our 1998 or 1999 matches at the MCG were home games.

St Kilda and the kangaroos had a crowd of 16,000 in round 22 which I did not think was too bad at all. The game was transferred from Sydney only a week or so prior to the game. Our supporters had sat through 19 losses already and as it was our away game, we didn't have the free entry/reserved seats.

And in regards to my first point, I wasn't intending to have a go at the Geelong Football Club. I was just stating that if it was a Western Bulldogs, kangaroos or St Kilda with a $7 million debt, perhaps the AFL would not have been so patient.

I suspect that you are right Sainter in pointing out that the AFL would never let Geelong fold. Because if that happened, the AFL would lose all interest from country Victorian supporters (the majority of whom, follow Geelong, bar a sprinkling of Saint fans in ballarat) - Geelong is a very important franchise for the AFL, and Mrs Jackson knows that. No GEELONG, No Country football support, NO MORE AFL SUPPORT IN THE BUSH
by the way i live in metropolitan melbourne
