I guess thats the one big knock on Australian racings biggest staying races....the best stayers in the world won't ever come to Australia because races like the Caulfield Cup & Melbourne Cup are handicap events - the better horses will carry too much weight.

Really like both of them too. Think Galen is more of a CC horse and TYI better suited to Flemington

Galen had his measure pretty comfortably a couple runs back and was beaten by TYI at a much bigger SP the run before so tend to think the others have him covered

Not sure if they go here or Cox Plate but really think Moira is in for a good prep this Spring and she has G1 form over 2200m. Waller and Yulong both already have a pretty strong hand in the Cox Plate too
Not sure what Waller has in mind for Militarize but the CC seems logical. Plenty of stamina in the pedigree. Campaigned in Qld in winter. Ran very well in the Doomben Cup, then got caught in the quicksand in the Q22. Ran well in the Cox Plate a couple of years ago.
There’s plenty of options with a horse like this, so he could opt to keep him at a mile, or go to the CP instead. But I suspect they’ll avoid Via Sistina and I’m guessing that they tested him over a trip in Qld to assess whether the CC is feasible.
A Qld winter campaign has been a positive indicator for Cups bound horses recently (Knight’s Choice, Without A Fight, Incentivise, Vow and Declare).
Militarize will make the field. At $101/$26 he looks like a decent each way bet.

Tend to think Militarize is just a Kovalica type who is just a clear level below what is required. Going to QLD and getting beaten up typically not good enough either. You want to be winning well if you are coming through the winter stuff
It’s looking like a weak edition of the CC this year. I suspect Aeliana, Sir Delius and Al Riffa all give it a miss. Trustyourinstinct would be a hope if it gets through the vetting. Golden Snap looks more suited to the Melbourne Cup. Struve would be a hope if he came but haven’t seen anything to suggest he will except the nomination.
I don’t see any stars of the calibre of Without A Fight, Verry Elleegant or Incentivise going to the CC this year so I think that horses like Kovalica or Militarize could figure. Buckaroo will be thereabouts but likely gives Militarize weight.
One point of clarification, I was wrong to say Militarize will make the field. He needs to run top 3 in a group race over 1600m or more, or win a listed race over the same trip to qualify. His rating will ensure he makes the field if he meets that qualifying condition.

VS be the one dodging her after the way she resumed today
2400m a big question mark anyway and connections seem to think she is a 1600-2000m horse. Almost no chance they dont go Cox Plate
Nice run by Meydaan against Kalpana and Giavellotto. Good vslue at $51/$14 with Sportsebet for the CC.

Vauban looking like a very good bet to me after yesterday. Going really well to have that much speed in him first up over 1600m. This really should be his race.
Sir Delius would be the number 1 seed but they could go Cox Plate now after he showed speed at the mile too.
