Somewhere else, thank Chr
I don't think Northerly can win, for distance, weight, draw and field-size related reasons.

Happy to work with three winning chances: Fields Of Omagh, Dash For Cash, Pentastic, with Universal Prince, Helene Vitality, Rain Gauge and Beekeeper fleshing out the trifecta.

13 - 5 - 12

I love these threads,so much possible derision.
From the top.

Northerly- if he was mine i'd be waiting til next week.Probably just hoping cos i've left him out of my doubles. He's a star but my hope is that he is beatable at handicap conditions.

Uni. Prince-some training performance if this wins 3rd up.
Also has Sheehan,willing to risk.

Sandmason-pass

Helene Vitality-you all know he's my M.Cup anchor which means he's right in this.Do think he'll struggle around Caulfield.

F.O.Omagh-he's the one,only slight knock at 2400m.

Freemason- has had his chance

Maguire-no thanks

Rain Gauge-am worried about this, don't know what to make of his last run. Will be saving if track softens.

Beekeeper-how could you know?Has been his target & they're not often wrong.

K.Way- didn't finish it off at Cranbourne, hard to have.

Dash For Cash- I thought he was doubtful at 2000,I'm out if it wins.

Pentastic-the other one I underated,Caulfield form is terrific, competitive at WFA last time, right in it.

Prized Gem-think we might have got a little excited over the Brisbane form after last year.

Republic Lass- not sure, doubt that Sydney fillies form from the Autumn.

Distinctly Secret-see Prized Gem,is a good result for me but only hoping.

The Second Mort-doubt he's good enough to win but OK last week

Tully Thunder- may have peaked a little early, awful last week.

Hail-miracle hope,terrific at Cranbourne,in my tri's.

So,I'd say there's 5 winning hopes,1,5,8,9,13 but I'll be cheering for Beekeeper or Distinctly Secret.

Best of luck
Seth.

Helene Vitality is my tip. Northerly is obviously the best horse in the race, have doubts about the weight/distance. I've also got a little feeling that The Secondmortgage will run well. Moroney has always rated this bloke, not sure he has the class (plus C. Williams on board turns me off a bit) but i think he'll run a big race.

No13 Pentastic for me, had an fantastic lead up to the race for the race IMO. Trainer has placed him very very well, fantastic run in the Turnbull flew home unlike some others really no distance query on him. A little rain really wont do anything to hurt his chances, only worry for me is the draw. But if he is close enough on the turn and gets a clear run i see him finishing all over the top of them.

in my opinion northerly is almost a special, not quite but almost - my punting will be -

northerly to win
hail each way saver
box trifecta - 1,5,8,13,15,17,20

and my cc/mc double is on the line - northerly/northerly @ 40/1

Northerly will win, why?

1. He's a champion and can repel any attack from another horse. He's carried heaps of weight before admittedly at WFA but he can carry it and Childs hasn't lost a race on him. He can lead, sit outside the leader and still win, he's bulletproof.

2. I've got all my Cup doubles with him and I need him to win or else I've done my dough. :D

I like Pentastic, and I expect him to be charging home but it is a tough choice for third. Universal Prince has been the forgotten horse but as Seth said, 3rd up is a huge task. Prized Gem has drawn out on the Caulfield station platform but does perform well over the distance and her last 200m was the second quickest in the Yalumba. A good roughie.
Helene Vitality will be better over the 3200 at Flemington and so will Rain Gauge. Dash For Cash is under an injury cloud but it isn't serious and Fields Of Omagh is running well but I couldn't stand listening to Bryan Martin on Sport 927 for the next year if it wins.

And as for Beekeeper, I avoid the overseas horses at all times. They just don't run well over here and at his 8th career start in a huge, bunched field he might not be able to handle the tight racing.

So after that drivel my Cup trifecta is.

1. Northerly - 13. Pentastic - 14. Prized Gem

Rough chances to 4. Helene Vitality, 8. Rain Gauge and 12. Dash For Cash.

Top 4

My Top 4 for the Caulfield Cup

13. Pentastic.

5. Fields of Omagh.

1. Northerly.

2. Universal Prince.

Concede hopes to: Dash For Cash, Republic Lass, Hail and Helene Vitality!

Good Luck! This isnt easy!

I've got Northerly, Fields of Omagh, Dash for Cash, The Second Mortgage, and Penatstic all in my doubles. I also had Magical Miss up until 3 days ago but that's another story.

My Fields of Omagh/Fields of Omagh is also on the line but at least the odds of $160 are good enough for me at least.

Looks like I'll be boxing the 5 nags in the trifecta and the quaddy.

Big watch on Planchet Melb Race 7 No 16, and Zvezda Melb race 5 No 8.

You said something once about signing out before posting Worm4?

My tips today won't be decided till race time, but considering Northerly, Pentastic, Cashy and Beekeeper. All this crap about o/s not running well is just that, crap. Over the last five years they always run well, always. Melbourne Cup first 5 there's always 2-3 o/s horses.

You never mind being wrong about horses like that.

What a champion he is.

I thought he was too short, but he's a champion and I was going to back him at any odds.
But what a win, against all the odds he showed that he is one of the best racehorses we have seen. Fred Kersley wasn't ruling out a Melbourne Cup run, which I'm disappointed about because I didn't think he'd run in it and therefore didn't put a Northerly/Northerly Cup double on.

But what a job it is to back up in the Cox Plate next week and to win it would be seal his champion status. No one thought he could win today and no one probably thinks he'll win next week, but I will still have my cash on him.

What a horse!!!

Fantastic win, really didn't believe he could do it.
Just reported that has been given an extra 2kgs for the Melbourne Cup taking his weight to 60kgs if they decide to take him into the race.

Northerley will run a huge race as always.

But FIELDS OF OMAGH is weighted to win.

1. Northerley DID run a huge race.

2. Fields Of Omagh WAS weighted to win.

BUT Northerley still won.

The weight theories have stood the test of time ... week after week ... year after year ... decade after decade.

But over the weeks ... years ... and decades ... there have been horses capable of upsetting the weight theories ...

... and we call these horses champions.

I just had a look at them and I must admit I don't know what I was thinking when putting some of them on, but here goes.

Northerly with...

Vinnie Roe
Rain Gauge
Carnegie Express
Helene Vitality
Pentastic
Henderson Bay,
The A Train,
Maguire,
Eagle Rhythm,
Platinum Scissors, Waterhouse confirmed my opinion of him by stating that he will win it if he runs. I know she can exaggerate at times but he is a huge talent.
