Any chance Warner making any runs ??? Or is he going to be another Michael Slater....live on one innings per summer
Warner - 16 innings, AVG 20.68, S/R 79.56, 2x50, 0x100

To me I'm thinking ODIs are his worst form of cricket, but let's see if he can make a score in his next 4/5 innings over the series. If he can't, then I'm not sure what to do with him.

Finally out of your shell once Christian has an average game I see. Christian's been handy throughout the series but you just can't help but sink the boot in:rolleyes:. Did Christian harm you personally or something?
It's funny because it's just about the exact same situation as McKay, generally our best, one bad death over.

Wonder if we will get some consistency?

McDermott in for the West Indies tour.....

Just what I thought, bowling at the death is a skill in itself. The Australian attack is overated, Been successful on pitches with lots of bounce and swing but can't take wickets or contain on more batsmen friendly pitches. Are their any Bracken type bowlers around the first class scene?

Wonder what you guys think about this, Ponting was dropped partly because he won't be around for the next world cup, then why is Lee in the team?

i reckon it only comes down to lee being perceived to be at least useful in the sort term, whereas ponting was doing next to nothing. a few more performances like last night though and lee might get the arse too, it's not like we're short on fast bowlers at the moment.

Great win Sri Lanka, thought they had stuffed their run chase up until Perera went bang bang in the 2nd last over.

Should be an Australia v Sri Lanka final series now with a genuine contest :thumbsu:

Those pissweak Indians who have stunk up our summer and have already got one foot on the plane to the IPL can get f***ed.*

Christian really needed to change up his pace I thought. It was obvious how hard it was to get the slower balls away (Maharoof did it well) so why not change it up. Just putting it up there in the slot at the same pace every ball is just asking to be smashed.

That said, 6 yorkers would have been even better. Gee a guy like Malinga would be worth his weight in gold!! I would love so much a guy who could come in and bowl 6 yorkers in the last over.

At the end of the day it was a good performance by Sri Lanka and good to see Forrest make his first ton. I agree with Plugger35, an Australia v Sri Lanka final would be my choice. They seem pretty evenly matched.

Disagree, you need plans and structures to be an effective death bowler, Christo just comes in and bowls whatever. Very, very hittable bowler at the best of times, let alone at the death with batsmen looking to go the tonk.

Drummond, you are a great poster but please dont use that word in cricket. Please.:thumbsu:

We had enough runs but gee, Warner's lack of form is being overlooked by the media because he is a media darling right now.

I won't blame Christian - more heat should be on Lee. He is either bowling rubbish again or he isn't over that toe injury.

Personally i think it's great to see other teams doing so well, Australia can't win everything despite everyone wanting them to :D.

Love the way Sri Lanka goes about it, a team that really loves their cricket :thumbsu:

This series is shaping up as a really good contest. India look flat and disinterested though, so am hoping it's an aus/sri lanka final which would be some cracking games to watch hopefully

our death bowling is a disgrace and it has been for 5 years now. where are the yorkers. they're harder to defend than any other delivery. but our bowlers would rather use the short pitched ball or half volleys. it's pathetic, something needs to be done

Indeed, bring back Adam Dale...
Ah yes, good call! At the game last night it seemed that we struggled lot at times. The guys dug deep & kept at it though. Forrest looks like he at least is in form, Hilfy bowled as well & quick as I've seen him. But the selectors really need to try some of these other guys who are in form. Play McDermott. He has bowled well all season! What does he have to do? Move to Sydney?

What to do with David Warner? You can't justify picking him as an opener with what he has done so far in ODI's, maybe bat him at number 6 or 7 & just let him bat freely to see what he can do with 10 overs left in the innings? But then you would have to drop Christian who hasn't done too much wrong so far.

Our top order will look much stronger with Shane Watson there & he should hopefully get the side off to a much stronger start than what we have been dishing up recently.

I mean in 2011 he batted in 22 innings made 1139 runs at an average of 56.95 with a strike-rate of 108.89, he is without doubt our key weapon up the top.

Also not sure we can play Lee, Harris, Hilfy & Christian as our 4 quick bowlers it just seemed a little bit too predictable last night, especially on a flat pitch. Lee & Harris will both struggle to make the 2015 world cup so maybe they both have to go soon? Lee will be given more slack i would think as he has a VERY good ODI record.

Last point i will make is what to do with Michael Hussey in regards to the 2015 world cup, he will be 39-40 by then i believe & history would say he couldn't possibly be still playing the way he is? BUT maybe he could be the exception rather than the rule & still going strong in 2015 i seriously wouldn't put it past him to want to be playing his last match in a world cup in Australia. He is still fielding as well as ever & batting beautifully but a couple of bad series at his age will be the end....

harris actually did a better job towards the end and bowled a few yorkers and full stuff - spell of 2 overs for 12 (ruined by a legside pie hit for 4 last ball), getting chandimal. has slowed down though it seems?
need to lose at least one of harris and lee.

i would consider letting x-man to bowl towards the end. less pace, have to dart them in obviously. everyone else has had a go.

Great game, well done to the Lankans. Jayawardene and Chandimal were superb, and that last minute hitting from Perera was brilliant. Malinga's death bowling was invaluable as well. Stopped the score from going beyond 300 and out of reach.

Our bowlers got shown up again. Say what you want about the batting, but they posted a perfectly defendable score. Not sure how long we should be persisting with Lee and Harris, if Siddle has been marked as a test only player surely so too should Harris? Especially given his fragility. As others have said, since Ponting has been dropped because he won't make it to the 2015 WC, the precedent should be followed and we should only have one (at the most) of Harro and Lee as our main strike bowlers.

Hopefully in the coming years we'll have options such as Pattinson and Cummins to rotate through the squad as well. In the mean time, I'd love to see Coulter-Nile given a spot. Cutting (despite his list A average being 30+) would also be a good option.

Warner has to go. Hasn't figured out how to play ODIs just yet, and Watson will be the perfect replacement for the top spot as well as offering something with the ball. At least Forrest has well and truly booked his spot to the West Indies.

Glad to see that, despite many of us going for 6 and 7 an over last night, David Hussey only got the one over again (for 4 runs).
I think Clarke is better in a lot of regards (with captaincy) to Punter, but I think he's really underbowling Duss, whereas Punter was more willing to bowl him last year and got good results.

all true, but Punter had the opportunity to bowl him for a few more overs in the 2 that he captained and didnt....

I think we could use Clarke and D.Huss a bit more bowling. Perhaps Watto could take Harris' spot, and use Hussey a bit more? (watto open, warner at 7 before Christian)

also would love to see us chase on Sunday. Just for something different - Sick of Australia setting a score (all matches) and India chasing (all matches). crazy how its turned out that way....

When have people ever bagged Mckay like Ricketts does with Christian?

Mckay has been a good ODI bowler for us, happy?
