Thought Ceglar did pretty well today, particularly on his own against some pretty quality opposition in Mumford. Not bad around the ground either.

If Hale misses next week we could certainly do a lot worse than a McEvoy/Ceglar combo. Missing one tall target up forward but Hale hasn't exactly been killing it up forward of late anyway. Chance for TOB perhaps? Or Big Boy resting in defence and Shoe goes forward?

I like the way you think Stranglers.....Perhaps it'd be an idea to e-mail this suggestion to our brains trust....God knows they could use the help!

In fact, what about Roughy to CHB if he is struggling to get into the game up forward & the Cobbler & TOB as our lead-up forwards????

Great game by Cegs today....Stood up in the last when we needed him to & against the man mountain in Mumford to broke even. More especially so given Hale went off injured ( Nudge, nudge, Wink, wink )....Yeah, I hate to say I told you so on an old & injured player but there you have it....Lowden would have been by far the better option out there tonite, by far!..... Brishawk & Dipper, I await your replies boys! Davo23, no hard feelings.:thumbsu:

Very astute, mate.
Yes, like you, I knew Hale would suffer an impact injury, and should have been rested

I didnt see your post about this BEFORE the game, though!
;)

13 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and 32 hitouts. Not a bad game in those conditions.

He's got a great vertical leap has Ceglar, his tap work at times was also quite good. Still fairly raw and very inexperienced, but there's definitely some potential there.

Regardless of our disagreement on this matter, Lowden is injured so unless you were prepared to go up against Mumford with Ceglar and Grimley then I am not sure what you actually expect. Players get injured. Corkie's are not prevented by rest and frankly with the players we had out we needed our very best players on the field.

As much as I like McEvoy, If we had of known Cegs improvement would be so rapid, and with only a few senior games to build continuity, would we have traded Savage out for Big Boy. Cegs is like a slightly less developed version of Big Boy with a little more mobility. The lad leads like a genuine full forward.

The 2 x First Rounders were the issue with this trade, not losing Savage.

We needed a 1st Ruck that was reliable - McEvoy is a terrible ruckman but he's fair around the ground & he's reliable (as opposed to someone like TicTac who brings a different game every week - usually crap the last 18 months). I hate how much it cost us, but it's irrelevant now.

Young Cegs improvement is certainly drawing question marks on the McEvoy trade.

Dunstan would be very handy right now.

To be fair McEvoy hasn't really had a good run at it with injuries, but has a long way to go.

Cegs has been good, but he's not at McEvoy's level. Really impressed though with the Big Fella's improvement. For a change, we actually have several good ruckman on our list, considering for so long we battled in the position.

This kid will become a really solid ruckman in years to come.

agree that he is probably not at mcevoy's level due to his games tally and draft pick but i would suggest his game against mumford was better than anything mcevoy has dished up this year!

It's good to see some people coming around to the big fella. He has shown so much more than Lowden and Grimley. Those 2 show potential and glimpses, Ceglar gets the job done and is much more consistent. Is only going to improve too. I agree he is the Hale replacement eventually once he finishes up.

It depends on what the coaching staff wanted out of McEvoy - they new they were not getting a dominate tap ruck, but were impressed with his ability in general play, around the ground and contested marking ability, which as good as cegs has been last 2 weeks, McEvoy in those aspects is a lot better. McEvoy can be a real worry when resting up fwd with his contested marking ability.
I think what they will be teaching him is different ways of halving a ruck contest, as like Hale he doesnt have a great leap, especially against some of the behemoths that are starting to come through. But he has a massive tank.

When contending you need 3 rucks who are ready to go, we should be wrapped that at this point in time we have 3 rucks, yes we dont have a dominating tap ruck, but McEvoy/Hale both can be very worrisome for opposition defenders when also dealing with Rough as nbr 1 and Gunston in there as well.

watching the highlights cegs had his best game for the brown and gold...what made it more impressive was he was up against mummy...where he more than held his own....hopefully gets a game this week and hale gets rested....and partners with big boy...in the ruck....

Last two games have been his best by far.
I would go as far as saying every game he has played this year is better than what he produced last year. He always had skills, now he is adding work rate and intensity. Hard to improve skills pretty easy to work harder. In the not too distant future, as he gets stronger and more assertive, he could easily end up a very good number 1 ruck.

I think, from the limited amount I have seen of Cegs, that he is a much better forward than McEvoy. He can definitely take a good contested mark but he does not seem as imposing. He also leads like a true forward, has one grab hands and has a nice set shot routine. mcEvoy has a better tank and great hands but for a guys of under 10 games I don't think Cegs is far behind McEvoy when it comes to around the ground marking. Once he builds a tank, he will be a very good ruckman.

He's got it. He needs to settle in , that's not always easy, but when he fits he'll be great .

Yes, he needs time to settle in. He's only played 6 games

That's SIX games.

SIX games.

SIX

(I'm not having a go at you, Joondalup just a general comment)

Yes but its right, 6 games with our side is miniscule.Need time to fit especailly with a side that is so focused and set in game plans that they all know well, that can't be easy to gather in with new team mates , he has no choice, but he'll do it.
