I don't understand the world's aversion to nudity (and even p*rn) over the acceptance of violence. Like Lenny Bruce so correctly opined many many decades ago.

We're in the year 2015 FFS! The world still so backward. The mere image of a nipple (or woman breast-feeding in public) has people aghast.

And don't get me started on censorship of words. You often see in newspapers/etc written as f*ck, like no one has any idea what the word could mean FFS. It's like the asterisk somehow saves the day. It's as tho we're saving the children, but children know all these words and more regardless of them being printed correctly or not.

I find censorship per se almost entirely absurd, redundant. There are SOME things that should be censored, but the larger majority of it shouldn't.

Always slightly amused watching crime TV shows - murder, blood, wounds, autopsies...but don't DARE show a nipple!

Find it odd that sex and so on is so censored (if a nipple can even be considered that) but violence is a free for all.

I self censor when it comes to nudity. Nobody wants to be subjected to little Gough swinging in the winds.
Swinging is a very generous term there for 'little Gough'

Why does something even have to be 'desexualized' to even try to make it 'more agreeable'.

FFS, grow up, planet earth.
I think over sexualisation is an issue, but nudity doesn't always equate with sex.

I still don't think 'over-sexualization' is an issue. That only exists in things like sexualizing kids. Otherwise, there's no over-sexualization to be afraid of. Example, in advertisments.

Where in society have we accepted violence, in the same context as breastfeeding in public?

I would say I am uncomfortable with seeing breastfeeding in public. Just as uncomfortable as I am seeing violence in public.

I'd prefer it if kids aren't exposed to highly sexual images or video.
They already are. Regardless of censorship efforts.
And why is it okay for kids to be exposed to violence in video games, movies, tv....even in the pg/m ratings....but heaven help the poor children should they be exposed to sex, or nudity in pg/m ?

There is nothing wrong with kids seeing breastfeeding. There is nothing sexual about it.

However, that doesn't change the fact that people associate female breasts in a sexual nature.

Now I'm not saying that breastfeeding is wrong and dirty. I'm not saying don't do it in public. But I think there is an exaggerated outrage over the notion when people say "I am uncomfortable with breastfeeding".

If a mother has no choice but to breastfeed in public, then do so. We as a society need to acknowledge that. But that should go both ways. Mothers who need to breastfeed need to also acknowledge that people will find it uncomfortable, and thus, should also consider that when deciding to breastfeed.

Movies, tv, books, video games.....violence abounds.

Kids are exposed to both.

No one advocates for the exposure of either?

But violence is just more easily attained through more mediums.

I have three brothers and until this year we mainly lived in Brisbane and had a pool in our backyard. Last year a new neighbour moved in next door and they had two kids our age and apparently from their back deck they could see part of our yard and most of the pool. Two days after she moved in, my folks got a nasty letter telling them that when we got home from school each day, we all would swim naked and she found this offensive and threatened to take legal action against them to make us stop.

Her husband called my Dad "kid fiddler" over the fence one day ffs. My folks had to go to the cops and get them to sort it out - all because someone was offended by a bit of nudity.

Two years ago we stayed with relos in Italy and faq me, you could hang out all day in the buff if you wanted to.

Kids were sucking on breasts, face full of breast, only a few years ago! They were getting showered/bathed by their nude mothers/fathers only a few years ago! They see the non-sexualized nude male and female form quite often from 0 to about even 11 years of age, in their family/extended family.

Nudity and sexuality is utterly over-rated by society as a taboo.

Repressed draconian hypocritical 'anglo-western' countries we live in.

Europe, and the rest of the world....not repressed.

Yet us anglo-westerners are the most to blame for glorifying/accepting violence in movies, tv, video games.

So if you disallow the censorship of kids from 0-11, how do you then apply censorship for kids from 11 to 17?

Or do you just give them the same content while they will naturally begin to see them in a sexual manner?

You DON'T censor for ANY age...is my barrow here.
Exposed to it 0-11 is to show they're already aware of it all, and that it's repressive to THEN censor it from 12-16.
Nudity, sex, offensive words. All of it is bullshit to censor.

In some ways humans are all corrupt. Yet we were all born as a baby and a kid with innocence.

No doubt that along the way, all kids will become corrupt. I'm not stating that nudity, sex and offensive words are the cause, but I would say they would play their part.

Like I stated previously, nobody really maintains the innocence of a child, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't attempt to prolong it either.

There is a fair line between censorship and kids needing to be explained to be able to grow up. But I don't think it should be a free for all.
