Think there were a couple of other games also, any word?
My friends from Warrnambool tell me Bungaree looked very good in a practice match against Kolora-Noorat on Saturday. Power have played in last 5 GF's winning 3 (and stiff not to win other two). Bunga would be very keen on there chances of making the next step up this year. Newly developed oval and massive new club facilities to boot. Bunga positioning nicely for the next 5 or so years!

Bunga were pretty good last year so could be really pushing this year. If they've picked up a couple handy players they might be one to watch. Are new facilities ready? Think someone on here mentioned they would be playing home games at Springbank??

Whoa, it's a Melbourne Cup field! Have you guys ever thought about splitting the league into say 6 or 7 different leagues? What chance do the bottom (12) clubs ever have of winning a flag? Poor old Skipton, they must be yearning for the Lexton Plains league.

Anyway feel free to comment on these odds and all the best with your VERY LARGE league!

Spot on Ganymede. The original plan was to have 2 divisions set up after the first 2 seasons but that was knocked on the head. This will show up as a very lopsided ladder after a few games. The old Lexton Plains clubs will find it very hard....plus a few of the old Central Highlands clubs. For the existence of the lowest 12 clubs then there must be 2 divisions or a different set up of another League. Geographically and population wise numbers will see to that.

Dropped into watch creswick v clunes today, in a game not decided till late it was pieces of individual brillaince that won the game , most notably no27 on a wing for creswick, 2 excellent goals , one on the run and another set shot from outside 50, everytime he went near it he looked a class above, cannot understand why he seemingly had no direct opponent for the entire quarter. Both sides lack key position players and ruckman of real size and surely this will hurt them both throughout the season. The game though not high class by any stretch of imagination was entertaining.

Has the bubble burst at the Burra, or Waubra picked up that much??? Hepburn missing a couple, Uhi Johnston etc but do they make that much difference or Waubra that much improved? May make a few observers happy if the bubble burst is the answer!
Will Illabrook last?? Springbank looking good with McMahon...and Edwards to come!!
Bunga with a a good win, ones to watch?
Daylesford out of the blocks could be ominous or will they run out of steam towards the end? For a change..
Buninyong just getting over the line, slow start or Newlyn, who were better last year, lifted another step??
Lot of questions I know, but a bit too think about?
Hepburn v Waubra the only real game to get a gauge from me thinks but unfortunately I didn't get to see it

Come on people, theres gopt to be some goss coming out of the clubs and comp..
Looking like the divide between top 8 & bottom 8 will be too great again.. Good case for a 2 division comp I reckon with promotion and relegation. Waubra and Daylesford looking the standouts at the minute, only early though. Daylesford losing Nesbitt with broken arm could hurt them. Hepburn just getting over the line over the crows interesting. Anyone see it, Hepburn just playing with them or lucky to get away with the win after being neck and neck at 3 quarter time. Has Raaky lost it at the boys as yet??
Gordon had a good win but have heard the towners are pretty depleted from last year.
Whats the go with Skiptons 2 good wins. Just because of the oppostion they've had (or lack thereof) or are they a legit chance to trouble a few of the stronger sides?

Come on people, fire up! Not only for match reports etc but what about the good old days when there was plenty of banter going on....

Beaufort v Waubra - 10 goals
Bungaree v Clunes - 8 goals
Buninyong v Springbank - 5 goals. Game of the round? If McMahon was playing would have gone with the tiges
Creswick v Skipton - 4 goals. First test for Skipton.
Dunnstown v Newlyn - 5 goals. Dunnstown dissapointing last week but so where Newlyn. Too much experience with Newlyn.
Hepburn v Gordon - 2 goals. Roughy for the round but Hepburn not travelling that well yet, wouldnt surprise if they pop and win by 10 though!
Learmonth v Ballan - 4 goals. Could be tight one though.
Rokewood v Daylesford - Lots...
Illabrook v C\L - Lots

Absolute no brainer, choice simple, keep status quo and sit back watch teams keel over, or support all teams surviving and split league. Got to make choice as the league in its current state is cooked!

Has anyone else heard about Eltringham been giving the arse by Springbank?? Another big loss for Springbank after now finding out McMahons ankle is more like 8 weeks and not the 2-3 like they thought!! Word is McMahon will be lucky to pull the boots on again this year.........

If we split the league it will just make the gulf between the 9th side, and the 10th side bigger. How are clubs going to recruit players into a division 2 side? What about the clubs that have a not so good senior side but the rest of the club goes well, take Dunnstown for example, if the league had been split into two 9 team divisions this year, they would be div 2, whereas their A Grade netball team are a constant finals team, who would they be challenged against? To split the league would make for an un-enjoyable year for teams that have okay senior sides but are good everywhere else. The league worked well when it was a 13/14 team competition and should not be split up.

Some very valid points there.

I find it odd that the four LPFL clubs would join the CHFL and then try to force changes to supposedly make them more competitive. The CHFL has always been a much stronger league than the Lexton Plains so surely they knew what to expect. It was a poor decision by the clubs involved and the league to grant them entry.

This league changed dramatically for the worse the moment Daylesford joined in 2006. This was a club that claimed to be broke and uncompetitive in the Ballarat league, but were able to play finals in 2002,3 & 4 and despite finishing 8th in 2005, were the only team to take points in a match against undefeated powerhouse Sunbury by managing to draw. Hardly the results of an uncompetitive outfit. From day 1 they have been a juggernaut and have forced the desperate unsustainable money based recruiting by rival clubs to try and keep pace with them, (and Hepburn) which in turn has seen the gap between the powerful clubs and the rest increase. Does anybody honestly believe that Daylesford would not beat Sebas, Bacchus Marsh, Lakers & Melton in the BFL this year? In fact you could probably throw in Melton Sth, Ballarat & East Pt as well and Daylesford find themselves in finals. It puts the task that clubs like Rokewood and Illabarook, and even long time CHFL clubs like Clunes, Ballan, Learmonth etc with limited financial resources, face to try and match it with them, into perspective.

Unfortunately, decisions that have been made mean that the very successful and popular CHFL will never be the same, and will ultimately be altered by influences beyond clubs control. Clubs will probably disappear and along with them will go long established rivalries and traditions. For years the VCFL have sat on their hands and watched as player payments spiral out of control and clubs find it harder by the year to be competitive against those who are cashed up. They have a points system which over time could close the gap between clubs but they are too weak to enforce it's introduction across the board. In fact they are too weak to make any difficult decision to improve the state of leagues and clubs in country Vic, preferring instead to leave it to unpaid individual league boards or let natural attrition take its course. The head in the sand attitude of the AFL doesn't help. As has been mentioned, maybe forced restructures across all leagues in the region, including BFL, CHFL, MCDFL, MDFL & GDFL, is the only way to fix what is becoming a mess. And maybe it's time for Daylesford to be forced back to the BFL, along with Hepburn, Buninyong and even Waubra

On a different note, wasn't the draw this year supposed to be graded so teams of similar ladder placings from 2012 played each other in early rounds? Can somebody explain to me why Daylesfords first 4 rounds were/are Ballan, Learmonth, Rokewood, Illabarook? all teams from the bottom 6 in 2012? Then on the flip side of that Ballan who won 4 games in 2012 copped Daylesford and Waubra, the last 2 premiers. This must only make sense to the amateurs who are running the league. Time for Rod Ward to take charge.

Good to see some chat finally. Some good points being made re the state of the comp, some which everyone will have different views on.
I reckon 2 div is the way to go. The sides that are struggling in the senior footy are ones that I imagine have trouble attracting players simply for the distance that they would need to cover to get them there. If you were a potential recruit and looked at a side to which you would have to travel some distance, only to get smashed most weeks, would that be very attractive. If the same side was more than competitive in a comp, all be it div 2 (or whatever other way you want to label it) at least it would make it more attractive for potential recruits.
RyanG makes the point that Daylesford changed the league for the worse casting doubt as to them crying poor and being uncompetitive. Didn't Nth Ballarat field u18 teams for them as they couldn't get juniors? It would be interesting to see where their twos and netballers finished those years as well? This again comes back to wether its all about the senior footy or the whole club picture as Cats2011 pointed out.
From what I've heard they don't exactly pay big dollars and have got their results on budgets much less than other clubs. Agreed others are probably forced to pay above to try and be competitive, but if this is the case its not like they are out bidding the other clubs and snapping up all the best players.
Players these days have a lot to answer for when it comes to the money clubs are paying out as some of the figures you hear about for some average country footballers is just unbelievable.
A restructure of the Ballarat comps needs to be looked at and even a 3 tier comp, with promotion relegation considered.
From what Ive seen id have to agree with RyanG that the top sides (senior football anyway) would be competitive in the Ballarat comp. Wouldn't probably match it with the Sunbury and Redans but would make a decent game against the others.

Afew upsets over the weekend.. What's people's thoughts?
Creswick the real deal? Clunes pushing forward?
Helburns dominance over?

Creswick definitely on the way up, a long slog but starting to pay off with some really good juniors. A perfect example of how struggling clubs can be competitive again. They will certainly be a final eight team. Clunes going better than expected, hepburn dominance definitely not over. They will certainly be very hard to beat come finals, many injuries at the moment.
