There has been a couple of meetings in the week just gone, a couple of things reported from those meetings were, "Dire Straights" and "it's not looking good". Bottom line the money in country footy will be the death of it,and netball and junior footy in balranald anyway. A community meeting will be held this sunday at the footy sheds at 11.30am to try and find an answer to balranald's problems. Anyone got any ideas??????
I feel for those in Balranald who were not in agreeance with the spending or a position to put a halt to it, but Roota is spot on.. Balranald has set the pace in the spending stakes around the CMFL and if they are in trouble only have themselves to blame..
Hopefully this might bring the market value of most players back to a more realistic level..

Wouldnt be Leigh Woods mate, he can get decent enough coin in melbourne wouldnt waste his time in this League, playing at Hoppers Crossing or St. Marys in G Town.

If i wanted your view on the subject Browny, i would have rang you, ya F<>*$N lightweight. I think you'll find he has spoken to Balranald b/c his missus will be away most of the year in Japan. If you turned up to any of your ex-team mates functions you may find this stuff out (btw Fro's going away nxt Sunday)!

Do me a favour, go back and keep defending Punter on that other thread. Apparently he may be receiving some bad publicity over some stuff that went on in the last test match.

Very sad to hear of the passing of one of the greatest gentlemen that i ever met, in Bill Gleeson.Condolences to the Gleeson family, and the Nyah/Nyah West community, we were all priveliged to have known him.A true champion in every sence of the word.T.B

Too true Uncle. Good call.

Roota = "correct". Sockit = "correct". Balranald have been the benchmark - on spending big cash that is - and have bought many clubs along with it just in the vain hope of staying competitive. Local players lost = "boo hoo".

The time machine is indeed a grand idea and if anyone had the balls to stand up and be counted 4 years ago this would never have happened, players in this league would be paid the "going wage" not the GW+300% !!

Lost me in 2005 when they recruited Chris Dunne back midway thru the season from Broadford for $1300 p/game - a time when the club was quite obviously financially well-off but morally bankrupt!

Winning flags (well ... 1 in this case) is one thing but at what cost and to benefit whose grand ego was it done ? Which players will be at the 2016 "10 Year Reunion" ? What has it bought to the town ??

I hope for the town, the young locals / families, the staunch people of the club and the CMFL as a whole that they survive in 2008. More importantly the club needs to learn from the disastrous mistakes which were quite obviously made.

How much has that elusive flag bought to the town, it seems it was more like digging for oil on an ancient burial ground and not knowing what you would uncover - well now they know !! No prosperity for the football club, just a load of dramas and lost players.

Good luck to them though, I hope they are back for 2008.

they will be in the league in 2008 don't worry about that.
crisis meeting this week but club has already spoken to majority of players wanting to leave and pretty much explained to them what will happen to the club if they leave which is quite frankly go into recession for a season, if they choose to go down this road it will be a long way back.
alan davies id going out there this friday to go through some options but i would say there will be no one getting cleared to Hay, not many getting cleared to Merve and even less getting cleared to Moula if the story i got up there today is true.

I am led to believe that clearances are granted automatically unless the player is on contract, owes the club money or property eg a club jumper, or is currently suspended.

willie if the club is in a situation like balranald looking at going into recession I would presume every player would be a required player and they would be able to knock back their clearance on these grounds. no clearance is automatic unless both parties agree and i think you will find balranald are quite happy to clear blokes who are going to improve their footy not just play in a minor league for $$$ now that the money has run out up there. and that is from the horses mouth.

Moulamien will be one very angry club if this happens

I meant Lee Jones and didn't mention Leigh Woods because he hasn't committed to anyone yet.

He has spoken to Abers, Kyneton, St. Mary's, Balranald and St. Mary's.

He has connections with all clubs but i'd say more likely end up with St. Mary's, Balranald or Kynteon.

That is exactly what makes Balranald the worst run club in the history of the VCFL. The committee should be ashamed of themselves. Their disgraceful running of their club is inexcusable. The majority of diehard Balranald people deserved much better as they are good country men and women.

This committee attempted and largely succeeded in bringing in as many ridiculously paid imports as possible and ignored the locals who basically ended up in the twos or were fringe players in the seniors.

Now these guys want to move on and the committee trots out- Poor us you have to stay, we need you- No clearances. These players will now be made out to be scapegoats and the reason Balranald fails or folds or struggles. Make no mistake the committee must take all responsibility for every scrap of hardship that club may now endure. They made their bed now they can lie in it!

thats a fair spray russ but agree with 98% of what you say. i agree that they have taken this league to another level in terms of paying players which may prove to be to the detriment of their club but not only that all the other clubs who have had to spend more than usaual to be competitive.
i feel for the new committe who has taken over the club and found out the real story i.e. debts, why players want to leave etc. when all they want to do is make sure the football club survives for the benefit of that community, not only footballers but junior families and netballers also. i think that there were a few big egos involved with the club over the past 5 years that have taken this club to where it is today.
i wish the new president and committee and coaching staff all the best and we hope that balranald stays in the league for the benefit of the league but more importantly the benefit of that community.

That is a great point. The spending that Balranald undertook has pushed other clubs to the wall as well. Clubs like Lalbert have had to try to pay more to their players in order to try and keep them which over the past years they just can't do. It also makes the other clubs ie: Tooleytang have to pay more to challenge Balranlad on the field. This then creates further troubles for the other clubs in the league because it becomes more than just the one club spending big dollars. It is a vicious circle and it will be the death of many country clubs and not just the ones like Balranald that spend up big

But what quality players would travel all the way to balranald to play for the same money as they would get elsewhere that is closer to where they live roota? They have to pay these exaborant prices to get recruits, as their results show winning one flag since the big spending the players are not neccessary better because of how much they get paid.
davies is good player roota but i dont think he will stand out from the other midfielders in the league

Amazing reading all this Balranald stuff, loved the call re: the 2016 reunion Rosco :thumbsu: With all this crisis talk etc, what has happened to the chief bankroller/part time selector/wood cutting bloke? Has he left the club or had a fall out with somebody

Being an outsider would I be silly in thinking that in dire times you can rely on blokes who have been on a good wicket for some time to stick around and play for much less as a way of supporting their beloved club in a rough spell . . . . . or does the term "beloved club" not come into this equation.

The Chief has gone, the money has gone, the wood has gone. And the 'beloved club' has obviously treated many in the local community badly in the past 3-4 years, mainly because of some massive spending and bigger egos. Now they wish to leave and it isnt it amazing that they may be denied the opportunity of leaving BALRANALD of all clubs for the chance to go SOMEWHERE ELSE TO MAKE A QUID !! Now that's what I call IRONY !!

Quite obviously Kilmore has the cash though Doona, recruiting the Champ Ken INGRAM - just hope they can get more than 1 game out of him !!:p

Yeah that don't seem right, now they'd be beggin em to stay to keep them club alive. I was told their coach Filo still might be owed a few quid, surely not. And what about the Abers boys JD is apparently taking up with him, are they been made fully aware of the situation I wonder?

Dont think Kilmore spend much but have got big Kenny Ingram, plenty of talk around town about how far the Blues can go. Time will tell if the big old body gets thru one more season.

Who are the "big imports" that would stay at he club next year due to clearences?

I think if players have to travel a certain amount of time thats also a reason for clearence not to be refused. So if players were coming from Melb every week the club cannot refuse the clearence unless they're contracted still have jumper or owe money.
