Just on sunrise. We spend $300 million every minute on welfare. Can not be sustained.

surely that has to be $300m per day. Even that is not sustainable.

They use the term welfare to conjure up images of dole bludgers, but it includes the age pension (**** me, it's the biggest part of welfare spending).
Last years figures
old age pensions 63 B
Veterans 6.5 B
Disabilities 34B
Families 37B
Unemployed 11.5B
Indigenous 2B
Other 1.5B
Admin 3.5B

About 35% of govt expenditure

These are the types of Centrelink beneficiaries that the government needs to be targeting in order to reduce thecost.

My apologise , was just after 7 am in the morning while I was getting ready for work .

It is still very high , the main point of that interview was that the welfare bill went up $40 billion over the past 10 years .
Should we start euthanising the oldies? They're overwhelmingly the drain on the system.

Dan Andrews is ahead of the curve

I think I said this somewhere when the retirement age got pushed to 70. ie the next step is euthanasia reform to bump off some numbers

Raise the pension age for a start and than make criteria for eligibility tighter .

We can then cut back on family payments , weed out the people on the disability pension who shouldn't be on it and do more to get those in unemployment into work .

We just cant keep having a welfare bill that's reaches a total of 80% of all income tax revenue .

Don't give him ideas.

Thinks $300,000 is $300 million. Lol.

Being on the welfare (at working age) is smart, why work to subsist on catfood to pay off a house in 30 years time, and whatever random interest rate the bank decides to charge, or not turn on the A/C or heater in case the power company randomly increases the cost of power by 20%, and have the government randomly increase tax to help offset how much tax their good friends in business need to pay (the people who randomly increase power costs and interest). People on welfare can have the same struggles but none of the hassles of working for it, like a "sucker".

Here's another way to look at our budget, ~$17 billion goes towards paying off the annual interest of the Australian debt, not the debt, just the interest. So the reserve bank could one day say, "how about we raise interest rates" and suddenly we lose more of our budget...

The solution to this problem is simple , make those on the dole for more than 6 months work for it and start taking the dole away from those who refuse to work or show up to interviews .

If life on the dole is just as good as life is for those who work than we need to make life tougher for people on the dole .

Wrong adjective, "if life on the dole is just as hard as life is...". Your answer is all backwards, you are trying to cure a disease by killing the host body.

What if we asked business to increase salaries in step with house prices, that would give people an incentive to work. But I can guarantee business would state, "that's fcuking obscene, we can't do that" - therefore demonstrating my argument. House prices are at stupid levels.

The even easier option, and I cannot believe no one has thought of this, is to keep median house prices ~2x median salary. We could set up a governing body to create the policies etc for this, I recommend a democratic process electing this governing body, and we can call this body "the government".

2 points.

1. Your struggle to purchase a property is not my problem, i wish you all the best but not my problem. What is my problem is the amount of money taken out of my paycheck every week.

2. Just increasing the average wage will do nothing because as wages go up house prices go up to.

We can talk about house prices in the hypocrisy of the left thread if you wish .

You were the one who replied to my post though, didn't you read the context of it? The struggle of people working for median income and therefore people on welfare (of working age and capability) being smarter than the plebs who work for an income?

Secondly, that's why I included a smarter and more sensible option which does not lead to inflation...

Yet you expect everyone else to care because you feel you pay too much tax. Literally every thread you post in or start is you howling about how you're paying too much tax and how everyone else should care about it. Yet, on the other hand, you couldn't give a fat rat's toss bag about anyone else. You are self-entitled.

Thats why we need to make it so people who choose to be on the dole and i repeat the word choose lose the dole .

This means they are forced into work or at least not a burden on the taxpayer.

You think high house prices are an acceptable reason not to work and stay on the dole ?
