I don't have a strong opinion either way as I don't watch enough freo but there is definitely a risk of overvaluing draft picks. It's like that simpsons quote where the mystery box "could be anything, even a boat!" Whilst there is a lot of excitement about the unknown potential of a draftee, the reality is if you go back over high picks most players don't live up to they hype. If cerra is someone who has lived up to his billing as a high pick then although our picks may result in someone better, on balance of probability we won't pick someone as good as him.

The discussion wasn’t about players wanting to leave though. They were talking about whether Dew would remain coach and Lloyd mentioned the first thing they need to work out is if the players are behind the coach because they couldn’t afford to lose anymore talent.

Worked well in the past for us.
I hope we get Green.
And if Taranto wants out and the club wants to go for a flag in 2022 I'd try to get them both.
Would cost us an absolute arm and a leg though. Probably our first 4 2021 picks + 2022 first/CCJ. Taranto is a significantly better player than Cerra in my eyes and would easily command two first rounders. Green was a first round pick and has showed lots of promise too.

Hope we can draft some talent with 2nd & 3rd rounders.
I would also look at Talia for KPD depth if we go down this path. Cheap but decent back if Balta goes down again.
That's the problem, you sell the farm for a couple of players, then you have to look at the bargain basement backups, even injury ravaged ones that have just been delisted by a bottom four club. And yeah you wouldn't be just hoping that you draft some talent with your 2nd and 3rd, you'd be hoping and 'praying'. Next year it is highly likely Riewoldt, Cotchin and Edwards will join Houli and Astbury in retirement. And Grimes, Martin and Lambert will all be in their thirties.
With all that talent gone or going soon, I'm very leery of any scheme that basically mean that we have no first rounders (unless we trade out someone really good that we probably would want to keep) for four years. And all for just two players (and God help us if one of them got injured).
Anyhow, if it was one first rounder each, I think most of us could live with that, even someone like me that would prefer to go to the draft. But no first rounders until 2024, yeah that's a bridge too far.

we don't have the cap room. caaaarlton very confident pick 6 and petrevski-seton will do it. freo may even ask for a later pick too.

agree. know it's unpopular here but they have a good list, add cerra and don't rule out clarkson. i'm told they are prepared to offer clarko a huge pay day and cop the penalty if they go over the soft cap. have a bloke in qid who opens his wallet whenever they call.I hope Carlton never change. They are the gift that keeps giving. Theny will recruit anyone, even if they don’t actually need someone in the position
Clarko isnt going, They have a great list on paper but it doesnt click for them, maybe Cerra is the missing piece but they have said that about alot of players. they are very hard to predict

the list doesn't 'click' due to poor coaching and man management. hence clarko and a new crew. i was convinced he would take the year off and if it wasn't for the covid scenario he probably would but i can't see him sitting on his hands for 12 months if travel is restricted. 2 mill a year for 3 years is hard to turn your back on. and taking over a good list and ramming it up kennett also has its attractions.

Clarko would get them to a much better spot but his manager has said he wont be coaching in 2022, of course he could do a 180 and join carlton but with the evidence we know at the moment Clarko isnt coaching

I agree about their list but they seem to have a lot of players that play the same position with some holes in others. They always just grab anyone available without targeting for the need of that position.

clarko has said he wouldn't coach too - in a manner. but i'm led to believe he's agreed to talks which is why they haven't made the call on teague. even dunstall, who is close to him, wasn't sure when it was broached on afl 360. not saying it's over the line or anything like that but caaaaarlton is pulling out all stocks.
Why don't you add in 2034, 2047 picks since we're playing fantasy rules?
