Shaun suits Hawthorn to a tee because he doesn't get tagged and isn't relied upon to do any heavy lifting.

He was simply at his best for us in the wrong era. He was an absolutely brilliant role player in 2004 and did a very good defensive job for us. He clearly has the talent to be an elite midfielder, but too often he was taken out of games by average taggers. Boak occasionally cops shit because his output is reduced by a tagger, but it's like chalk and cheese. Boaky never drops his head and works himself into games and has an impact. Shaun didn't quite have the workrate.

Still, I hope we see a bit of him around the club once he retires.
I'll always be grateful to Shaun for what he did to deny Guerra in the dying seconds of the 2004 preliminary final. Without that selfless act, the Saints could have scored the tying goal, and we could have been into overtime. From there, who knows what might have happened?

The hardest thing with this game is coping with Bruce commentating his crowies boys.
I actually muted the last 10 minutes of the game watching it live. Hadn't ever done that before and haven't since.

Bruce's bias in that game truly was disgraceful

At the end of his career, will this Chad end up better than the other Chad?
Would we even compare them if they both weren't named Chad? Seems an abstract reason for doing so, although of course I acknowledge that on BigFooty it's a perfectly valid one. Which is better Golden North vanilla ice-cream or a Black and Decker hammer drill?

Barring a career destroying injury, Wingard will be considered better than Cornes, and quite easily. That's taking nothing away from Cornes ....
Actually it's taking everything away from Chad Cornes. If you really, really have to take the bait on this convince me you actually sat and watched CHB Cornes tear the heart out of opposition attacks through the noughties and yet still believe Chad Cornes is quite easily the inferior player.

I watched Chad Cornes' entire career.

He's only behind Tredrea and Wanganeen in terms of our best ever players at AFL level at the moment, but Wingard has more natural ability and is miles further ahead at the same stage of their careers.

He already has more individual accolades at 22 years old.

There is absolutely no shame in not being as good as Chad Wingard. This certainly isn't an attack on Cornes.

Maybe I'm just being a fence-sitter, but I think it's pretty futile excercise to compare their worth when they aren't even remotely similar players.

But... but they're both named Chad.

i dont really care to compare them cos they both are different and brilliant players. But they do have a common and comparable trait being that they both play AFL football. What exactly is the link between a ice cream and a hammer drill?

Not any ice-cream, Golden North vanilla ice-cream. But in the context I used it none, that was the point.

However in the Powerstufff universe the link is I have and value both. But the ice-cream wins out because the fridge is just in the next room, I have to go out to the shed to look at my drill.

I'm with u, ice cream over drill, but I'd prefer Ben and Jerrys.

Exactly, Wingard is one of those players I'll be telling my grandkids about, the things he is able to do on a football field make me feel like a teenager again watching Warren Tredrea pluck contested mark after contested mark after contested mark with opposition teams having no answer.

I saw him at West Lakes yesterday.

He saw my PA cap, our eyes interlocked, there was a connection, we both went on our way knowing we just had a moment.

Haha. I've had that same moment with Gavin Wanganeen.....twice.

Viva la PA cap.

I had a PA cap, last time I ever saw it was the Richmond game this year. When Kane Cornes was doing his lap of honour, I thought I'd be respectful and take my hat off to him, literally...but I forgot to pick it back up off the seat and left without it.

R.I.P my PA cap :(

I believe Cornes is clearly inferior. By the end Wingards only comparison in Port Adelaie history may well be Russel Ebert. He is a once in a generation player. Chad Cornes was a star, but they may as well be playing a different sport.

Gavin is the other that he was compared to from the first pre draft highlights package... he is more than living up to this and then some!!!

Be careful how you spell when talking about God...or is it Go? ;)

Cant compare,Wingard will never be able to play CHB/CHF .

As Chad (cornes) would never take a game apart with 10 touches.
