I'll always be grateful to Shaun for what he did to deny Guerra in the dying seconds of the 2004 preliminary final. Without that selfless act, the Saints could have scored the tying goal, and we could have been into overtime. From there, who knows what might have happened?Shaun suits Hawthorn to a tee because he doesn't get tagged and isn't relied upon to do any heavy lifting.
He was simply at his best for us in the wrong era. He was an absolutely brilliant role player in 2004 and did a very good defensive job for us. He clearly has the talent to be an elite midfielder, but too often he was taken out of games by average taggers. Boak occasionally cops shit because his output is reduced by a tagger, but it's like chalk and cheese. Boaky never drops his head and works himself into games and has an impact. Shaun didn't quite have the workrate.
Still, I hope we see a bit of him around the club once he retires.
