Chadwiko's 2009 Phantom Draft V 1.0

PP) Melbourne - Tom Scully
1) Melbourne - John Butcher
2) Fremantle - Anthony Morabito
3) North Melbourne - Jack Trengove
4) Richmond - Kane Lucas
5) West Coast - Luke Tapscott
6) Sydney - Matthew Panos
7) Hawks - Daniel Talia
8) Port - Koby Stevens
9) Essendon - Gary Rohan
10) Carlton - Dustin Martin
11) Bulldogs - Ben Cunnington
12) Lions - Nathan Vardy
13) Adelaide - Andrew Moore
14) Collingwood - Jack Fitzpatrick
15) Geelong - Allen Christensen
16) St Kilda - Jordan Gysberts

Rather than go through and explain every pick, i'll try and sum up a few things here;

  1. I don't see Melbourne picking two midfielders with their 1st and PP picks. I think they're more likely to draft for versatility and go for Scully and Butcher
  2. I see Fremantle and North Melbourne both targeting the best available Midfielder at their picks, so if Melbourne doesn't take Butcher, he could slide to Richmond. (unlikely)
  3. I've got Fremantle taking Morabito over Trengove just because of the WA factor. However, if Freo do take Trengove, North will definitely take Morabito. So these two are interchangable
  4. I was suprised myself to see Koby Stevens slipping to 8th, as a month ago I had him as a top 5 pick perhaps, but I think clubs above them will draft for specific needs. For example, Sydney will be crazy to pass up Matthew Panos when they've had so many KPP'ers, especially forwards, leave the club this year.
  5. The 'steal' of the draft could either be Stevens at 8, Talia at 7, or Martin at 10, all players who I think will develop rapidly once in the AFL system.

What are your thoughts? How did your club do? This is version 1.0 of my Phantom draft, so i'm more than happy to listen to peoples criticisms. Obviously, with two rounds to go, the order could change as well, so maybe i'm a little silly for doing my PD this early. However, with North's season well and truly over, the only thing left to salvage from 2009 is a top 5 draft pick, and I love doing these drafts as a means to see who we're likely to end up with. :)

i think that the first 4 or 5 picks in the draft are set in stone subkect to change on where teams finish and the type of player they want to pick but i think thats a fare crack at it well donme chadwiko

For a start you've got Richmond overtaking North in the last two games of the season, which is unlikely. And I'd rather Panos, Tapscott, Rohan or Stevens (in that order) than Lucas any day.

We're equal on points at the moment, and our percentage is only slightly better than yours. We play St Kilda this weekend, and we've named Shannon "Spud" Watt to play in a 'farewell' game, and the rest of the players we have named are a bunch of kids. We're going to get flogged. North will finish lower than Richmond.

Also, you play Hawthorn this week, and are a genuine chance to beat them.

Cant see geelong taking christensen, as much as i like him, i think we will draft based on needs

Not sure about North finishing below Richmond. Richmond are terrible. Freo has a better chance of winning against Essendon this week which would still see North getting pick 4.

I wouldnt mind having pick 5 and picking Gary Rohan with it though.

Not sure Tapscott or Panos will go that high, though they could. Tapscott would be perfect at the Eagles, but I see him as a late 1st rounder. I think Sydney would take Talia over Panos. Martin will go high IMO.

Nice effort though mate, a refreshing mix-up.

Any phantom draft that has Essendon picking Gary Rohan is alright in my book :D

In regards to Brisbane no chance of them taking a ruck in the first round. Clark and Leuenberger pegged as the rucks of the future there.

On Sydney look for White and Johnston to make a pretty good one two punch up forward with Goodes playing significant time there as well. A KPF is probably not their highest priority (although it is certainly possible). Murphy I think should play next year and will help out Bolton down back. The KPDs are where they are weakest though and Talia would be a tempting option. A midfielder with pace is also very much needed.

No chance of Fremantle taking Morabito if Trengove is still there. I also think Richmond will have pick 3 and we'll have pick 4.

Otherwise, a reasonably good effort.

We would just need to lose to the Dons to keep pick 3. Dons have finals to play for and we are likely to make 4 changes. Who knows with Freo:eek:. We are off to the cattery Rd22.

Chadwiko, this explains your comments on Watts/Jurrah bulking up in the other thread...you just want us to pick up Butcher so you can have Trengove for yourself.

Too bad mate

And you are dreaming if you think Richmond are going to win another game this season and/or make up 5% on your lot - they are useless. If we are stupid enough to pass on trengove, richmond won't be.

For starters Richmond won't beat Hawthorn and West Caost.
Even if we did, we are miles behind on percentage.
Do the ladder predictor on Afl site.
North lose by 100 points in each of their games and richmond lose by 1 point and Richmonds percentage is still worse.
Sorry but we'll have a pick before you.
No chance at Trengrove for North.

Yeah, because everyone knows that a blokes Phantom Draft is reality, and so if he has Trengove at North with his pick, it's a sure thing to happen come draft day. :thumbsu:

I see your Nostramus like claims to accuracy in prediction don't follow you to this board mate.

Aye, not one of my finest predictions ;)

I've now, heartbreakingly, accepted that we're unlikely to get him.
