makes sense as he was the travelling reserve.

it'll be interesting to see who comes in (JFM, hardie or connolly) and what effect it has at the top of the order.

Logic somewhat says JFM as he can be something of a straight swap for Short at top of the order, though you lose the overs Short can bowl but maybe we give Head a few overs as we know he had some success against India over summer

Then there's part that thinks the smarter option would be to shift Carey or maybe Labs up to opener with Hardie coming in down the order as he does give us that all rounder option - but could that weaken our middle order as we saw both Carey & Labs go ok against England

There'll be a bit of thinking to be done,

As I said previously in the other thread I think hards should come ..to provide the extra bowling option I would also consider Abbott over Ellis. Unless its a rank turner which I dont think it is then Cooper to be considered ..I would go this side

Head
Carey/Inglis
Smudge
Marnus
Inglis/Carey
Hardie
Maxie
Abbott
Dwars
Zamps
Johnson

That provides cover with both batting and bowling...with the squad we have got

Neither was Coops, he was just already in Pakistan, but you can fly a replacement in. NZ had Ferguson go down so brought Jamieson in from New Zealand.
Even if we could add Owen to the squad just not sure you replace Short with him.Need the replacement to bowl a few overs similar to what Short has done although I suppose you could use Head to bowl a few overs of spin.

I think you'd consider Sangha in all honesty in Dubai, does that mean Hardie then potentially plays as the third seamer? I'm just not keen on us playing either JFM or Coops - both aren't yet up to international cricket, and need to play a whole lot more at state level.

Worries me that it is perhaps going be a wicket for spinners and Zampa will bowl 10 but perhaps Maxwell might have to do the same.

Pity we couldn't have Kunners.

Connolly should play and just allow him to open. It's actually the most like for like replacement for Short. You still get the spin overs and left arm spinners do well there

Can't help but feel like this was a missed opportunity to bring Mitch Owen in whilst in the form of his life to throw at India? Coops likely won't play, and I really don't like JFM's chances....
Short and Connolly are lefty spinners so it's like for like.
Owen has the better form with the bat but is a very average pace bowler

The same Owens that averages 20 in 50 over cricket? Can we stop picking guys off slogging some BBL runs?

I have a feeling Connolly is playing otherwise why make the call…you’d just play JFM and give Short every chance at the final if we make it

Short is a right arm off spinner not left
