I dont remember Cooper Connolly doing the opener role much for WA, it did seem a bit left field and I doubt the selectors go back to him now unless he proves himself domestically.

He's played 9 list A games for an average of 14.5

Was one of the strangest selections in Australian history and that's not hyperbole

wouldn’t speak so fast, he’s been earmarked as a future good player. it’ll take matches of mediocrity before he’s returned.

Let's not be afraid to call this exactly for what it is.. a contrived Indian victory fully supported by the ICC (or should that bve the BCCI - effectively the same organisation). We can talk about Australia's failings, but in reality they are just the latest victims of what has become the most fixed and favoured ICC tournament in cricket history (beating out the recent T20 world cup when India were guaranteed Guyana for the semi regardless of other results). I still maintain that it's impossible to take this result in any way seriously. The pitch was so different to what has confronted all the teams in Pakistan, we had the farce of both teams from group B travelling, with South Africa being in the country for less than 24 hours, and we've got the farce of the final of a tournament in Pakistan, set to not be played in Pakistan.

You've also got India taking home more than 80% of the broadcast revenue, despite the whole purpose for the Champions Trophy being started to raise funds for struggling countries associations (which all are apart from the big 3).

Until the other countries start to call out this utter bullsh*t from India, this is going to continue.

What a ****ing shit team selection all round. Sangha, Connolly. Lol got what we deserved
To be fair to Cooper he bowled well and should’ve had two wickets sharma and kohli

No way he should’ve opened he is a number six seven like for like to a jadeja

He is just completely overawed with the stick. Worry about his confidence going forward needs significant time in the shield for me

Honestly think playing him before he is not ready and out of batting position has really stuffed him up

what might work for connolly would be an extended go at a county side (not unlike the hussey brothers) and just letting him play cricket at the second highest level. forget T20s, List A. give him time to get a feel for the long(er) form of the game. might be hard but i don't think it happens too often anymore, for whatever reason.

He just needs a couple of years at WA… been exposed too early. Go back and make runs at Shield and one day level. He’s a talent, but not yet ready. It’s that simple.

just any FC cricket, so long as he's playing well.

i know i've been critical (and probably most of it could be deemed irrational (lol)) but he just doesn't appear entirely ready for the big stage yet in any of the formats. i know the exposure of it will help his development in some capacity but it's disappointing that he's unable to really provide anything. he's not provided much option with the bat, slightly more with the ball, and has taken 1 (one) catch in his 7 matches. he's just not ready.

it's not a great comparison to make, but ashton agar in his debut was from a (similar position from memory, hailed as this wunderkind). taken out of nowhere and thrust into a test side off the back of some okay performances. the difference being that he took wickets on debut and had a sensational knock of 98 coming in at 11. since that game he's played 4 more tests. he was able to catch lightening in a bottle and was unable to sustain it. to my eye, connolly has okay numbers on paper, but has stumbled at every stage in his international career.

You should be asking plenty of questions regarding last night’s game. Firstly how did Connolly go from outside the squad to opening in a Semi Final? There’s so many things wrong with that I’m not sure where to start. If JFM was overlooked to open, why was he even in the squad? If tgey needed Connolly as a bowler, why didn’t Smith or Labuschagne move up?

Talent is the most overrated thing in cricket, yet our whole system places it above everything else.

we had our chances with bat and ball

disappointing to lose to India who were up against it
