Are you seriously comparing the two?

Nothing in his career justifies these selections. This is not based on one bad performance.

This counts even further against his selection.
I am not comparing Cooper with marnus far from it I am just stating that marnus performance has been average for some time

I didn't want Cooper picked last night ..but he wasn't the only one who didn't perform with the stick...thats my point

His selection in Test and ODI cricket is completely unjustified, even accounting for a weak era.

Poor aptitude. Poor technique. Poor record.
agree wholeheartedly, but he does have a batting average in the 50s* which is nothing to sneeze at.

*off of like 6 or 7 FC games

Look people are mentioning why Cooper is getting a game and I agree he is not ready with the blade

But IMO I will give you some reasons what the selectors are looking for and a weakness in Aussie cricket which hasn't been solved for some time.

If you look at our bowlers ability with the bat quicks and spinners it's not that great since Warne/Johnston has retired we have never had a batter in the late order who can score significant runs with the blade. This is evident in both test cricket and white ball come 8 downwards we struggle

Cummins Starc are handy our two best holding the blade but they are up and down
Lyon has never made a 50 in test cricket
Hazelwood is a good number 11 but thats it

Look at the white ball
Zamps.....one of the reasons he has never played test cricket he is poor with the stick

Look at last night 30-50 runs from he lower order could've been the difference
Dwars average
Ellis Sanga no idea with the bat

People are talking about weak spots in the Aussie side well thats one of them...Look at India Ashwin Jadeja Sundar Patel..all spinners ashwin jadeja have made tests tons sundar Patel significant contributions with the bat....thats what I think the selectors are looking for and a reason why Cooper is getting picked.

Yes before you say bowlers are there to take wickets...100% agree but it would be fantastic for the side if we could have a spinner bowler who can bat a bit........If I was Murphy/Rocco in the shield I would really concentrate on the batting side in the nets ...its a weakness for me in the Aussie team both test and whiteball.
LOL
Zampa hasn't gotten a game cause he has a dog shit bowling record at FC level and Lyons better. Absolutely nothing to do with his batting

Trying to find bowlers to bat lol wut. They only need to do that if you don't have good batsmen.

Yep and how about Marnus and co actually bat properly instead the bloke misses another one on middle last night and we won’t even talk about Travis and his utter stupidity of trying to hit their most dangerous bowler for six first ball…

It’s great to bag Cooper and I get it he was poor with the stick and in the field but what are the other batsmen doing? Even Smith you are 70 not out why are you charging Shami and missing a full toss…it was a blind miracle he made 70

What world cups? They won one, and it was literally a drawn game... they didn't even win that game in the super over.
Yeah, they won the T20 world cup.

At the end of the day, It doesn't matter if Aussies don't wanna legitimise T20 cricket. Nobody around the world is gonna lose sleep over what we think.

Fans will happily take the win, just like Indian fans are this tournament.

T20? Ok sure, they can have that.... we'll keep the Ashes, the BGT, the WTC and the 50 over World Cup - you know, the events that matter.

Let's not be afraid to call this exactly for what it is.. a contrived Indian victory fully supported by the ICC (or should that bve the BCCI - effectively the same organisation). We can talk about Australia's failings, but in reality they are just the latest victims of what has become the most fixed and favoured ICC tournament in cricket history (beating out the recent T20 world cup when India were guaranteed Guyana for the semi regardless of other results). I still maintain that it's impossible to take this result in any way seriously. The pitch was so different to what has confronted all the teams in Pakistan, we had the farce of both teams from group B travelling, with South Africa being in the country for less than 24 hours, and we've got the farce of the final of a tournament in Pakistan, set to not be played in Pakistan.

You've also got India taking home more than 80% of the broadcast revenue, despite the whole purpose for the Champions Trophy being started to raise funds for struggling countries associations (which all are apart from the big 3).

Until the other countries start to call out this utter bullsh*t from India, this is going to continue.

India won it fair and square
Be gracious in defeat instead of looking for conspiracy theories that don't exist. Next you'll be saying that Bigfoot is real.

Imagine seeing the AFL CEO carrying on like a pork chop in the stands when a team gets knocked out in the semis lmao. A fitting reflection of how much of a joke this tournament is

The AFLs sour faces when Hawthorn beat Sydney in the 2014 grand final was priceless!

Oh please, sure they won the game fair and square, but in terms of how the tournament has been organised as a whole it’s an absolute farce.
Jay Shah, who is the head of the ICC, used to be the head of the BCCI and is the son of the Indian foreign minister Amit Shah.

It’s pretty clear and obvious they had a huge advantage playing all their matches in Dubai, as opposed to every other team who has had to travel round in Pakistan and play on vastly different surfaces.

Whether by design or accidental, by allowing India participate, despite their refusal to travel to Pakistan, the ICC have effectively handed this tournament to India on a silver platter, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to call it out.

Steve Smith has retired from ODI cricket.

We even won the T20 world cup with a crap team by winning the toss a few times in a row. Good times

still pissed we lost

so many chances with bat and ball to bend over an overrated India side

The Kings of Dubai are odds on for the Dubai Cup.....apparently in the new home of 🏏....Dubai
It's an utter joke that they can control world cricket the way they do.

Seems the right time

Focus on test cricket

Two and a half years until the World Cup, which is really the only ODI cricket anyone cares about. It’s a long way away. Probably should see a few retirements from different teams after this Champions Trophy ends
