Superb? Are you actually kidding. The same team that got beat by is by 7 goals in the midst of our sh*t form. A club that won’t make the finals. I think many here have been sucked in by the media hype by the bombers sycophants. They’ve barely improved at all. They may be playing a more appealing brand but it’s not exactly translating to Ws

you’re entitled to your opinion. It’s wrong, but you’re entitled to it. If you can’t see the marked improvement from Essendon all over the field, then I don’t know what to say to you. It’s night and day between Rutten and Worsfold.

Wrong? My opinion is fact and the evidence is there

We've got blokes who can roost it on the run from outside fifty like short balta jgti and dusty so when teams flood that's what we should be trying. We did try to however Short missed but we should have persisted with it as it nullifies the oppos defensive flood and draws them up the ground which then frees up our forwards a bit more...
I think the problem is that our players have been brainwashed into a particular playing style/behaviour and anything else isn't instinctive any more. We certainly don't see those long shots for goal very often and yes it would take their defenders out of the equation.

Is that the same Caracalla and Rutten that have been at Essendon for 2 years and they move barely improved at all?

No doubt great coaches but to say they’re the reason we won 3 in 4 years is a dead set lie.
I love this clutching at assistants as an excuse , how much did Rutten abd Caracalla help woosha
How are hawthorn placed relative to last year with McRae
There are so many dynamics at play , the biggest is the availability of our best players then several players getting older , assistants have little influence on any of that

Champion data review of our season so far.

We’re number 1 in the comp for scoring from turnover, 3rd for forward half intercepts and 5th for inside 50 differential.

But we’re getting smashed in clearances and contested possession and back half turnovers are costing us.

RICHMOND

THE GOOD

The Tigers’ brand is much the same as its premiership years of recent seasons, being a low disposal and low stoppages team that plays the game in their forward half and punishes opposition sides on turnover. The reigning premiers rank No. 1 for points from turnovers this year as well as third for both time in forward half differential and forward half intercepts. They are also providing ample opportunities to their forwards, ranking 5th for inside-50 differential.

The Improvers

1. Dion Prestia

2. Nathan Broad

3. Noah Balta

THE BAD

Richmond’s long-heralded defence has been found out at times this season. The side has slipped from No. 2 for points conceded last season to No. 9 this season. Turnovers in the back half have proved costly, with the Tigers implementing a stronger possession game to protect their defence. The contest also continues to be a weakness, with the side ranked 18th for clearance differential and 14th for contested possession differential.

Gone Backwards

1. Tom Lynch

2. Nick Vlastuin

3. Toby Nankervis
This is great insight and it is clear to me that what held us in such good stead last year was being able to turn a gear and win clearance after clearance. Melbourne has cribbed some of our gamestyle, but the clear reason it is working better for them is that they are also able to win it at the source and surge from there. They also have outside runners that are not afraid to take on the man on the mark, then deliver to leading targets.

Also had their starting ruck who is an A grader and all of their prime movers available every week

I don’t think it’s too hard to work out myself.
The games changed, we are getting older and we aren’t as good as we were.

For me looked liked we weren't switched on from round 3 onwards to the new rules our game plan pressure and on top of that injuries come then.I was never convinced once the injured come back will be right signs we're there before they came.

Way I see it is new rules make defensive nets harder to execute and because we play conservatively in order to set up to prepare to create those layers/webs we are too slow going forward giving opposition to much time to set up. It's not necessarily long kicks into forward line that is the problem, it's the fact that the build up is too slow BEFORE these kicks. We go too far sideways and too often when moving the ball forward.

Our best football has been playing direct and fast. Part of the reason the smalls look like ass this year is due to the new rules combatting the way we set up.

Coaches play an important role however what's letting us down currently is the execution of what most would think at the AFL level to be the most basic of skills. We repeatedly miss simple targets with straight forward hand passes and kicks and in between fumble the ball like it's coated in vaseline.

I can't see what the coaches can do about this, most of our players just appear to be totally lacking confidence with ball in hand. Missing handballs to teammates 2 metres away, kicking 15 metres and managing to miss the target by metres is killing us at the moment and not sure how extra/different coaches would fix this.

Coaches shouldn't have to focus on the absolute fundamentals at this level, they should be working on tweaking the execution of the game plan and the more complex strategies for the particular opposition we are facing for that week.

Every week we jump out the blocks and look great for about 10mins and then it's our skills that result in complete momentum killers and the wind is taken out of our sails, not to mention our poor goal kicking.

If you watch the Dogs or the Dees they make very few errors when transitioning from defence to attack. Their mids run hard as they have trust in the fact the ball will get back to them if they put in the hard yards. We almost don't trust our teammates to do this any more. It's like the mids are expecting our turnovers so are sitting in no man's land because they know at some point someone will stuff up and they will have to turn and chase.

The problem is if we do fluke a transition to forward 50 the forwards have no other support and it's turned over and then the opposition seem to slingshot and score at the other end very easily. We execute very few complete movements from defensive 50 to forward 50 because we literally can't string possessions together without a skill error.

Maybe it's just a confidence thing, just seems weird that the majority of our players are affected at the same time. The last few years and for small periods this season we have looked slick with the ball in hand and using overlap runners and have made scoring look easy for the most part but for the majority of this season we just make the simple look so God damn difficult that it's hard to watch us at times.
Exactly: I see exactly the same issues as you do. Combine this with the fact that we are an ageing list, well the top end at least, and as such are seeing a lot more injuries to our elite. So much time with the ball for so little reward allowing the opponent to stay in the game.

you said it was the first year without them. FACT.
Is that how you do it?
Now man up and admit you were wrong.
Yes all of them I'm well aware some left the year prior. Did you not read all that is left is Balme? So get your facts right :tongueoutv1:

Unbelievably naive to think that one bloke is basically a dummy and has everyone do everything for him, has a winning system, and then changes it just because.

.

I’m gonna throw this out there, the club is split, Rance was shown the door for a delicate in description, hardwick was backed, flame me all you like, , Rance a premiership hero who mentored the young guys has been conspicuous by his absence from the club, persona non gratis, meanwhil…………

Did anyone watch FC last night? According to someone over at oer caro said all our assistants will be gone at the end of the year...

Why worry we have some in here that can take over they know everything there is. Be Happy.
Ohh yes and they have the facts to prove it.

We have always been trying to get that correct balance between attack and defence that suits our players best, it can never be perfect and will tilt either way at times.
I don't think we will revert back to 2016 levels of defence, the club learnt its lesson from that period in time for now. (the same people are still there)
I expect us to come out on the attack this week and balance it up again.

I have a feeling that the change is game style is partly responsible for the poor execution of some basic skills we are seeing. It looks like our players are just a fraction of a second behind which could be them second guessing themselves due to a change in system.

We need to get back to our fast football. We need to start entering the F50 with some pace to at least give our forwards a chance instead of just holding the ball up on the flank and waiting for all the opposition to start flooding up.

Lloyd was talking about how it’s hard to stay up for 5 years and said you don’t get draft picks etc. and you lose your IP.

Caro responded by saying well all the assistants are leaving and now Adam Kingsley has put his hand up for the Collingwood job.
She didn’t say all the current assistants are leaving at the end of the year so she might have meant you lose your IP with all your assistants leaving, meaning Leppa, McRae etc.

It wasn’t totally clear what she meant because she didn’t elaborate.

People need to relax about how the St Kilda went as if it’s some new game style. That game is an aberration in effort and probably one of the worst skill execution games I’ve seen from us in a very long time.

The reason our marks have gone up is because when we win the ball back we are now trying to change the angle of attack to get a better entry into 50. Earlier in the year we were dominating inside 50’s but not getting a return (because we’d just bomb it back in). It’s a very minor change in one aspect of our ball movement.

About 4 minutes in Lloyd starts talking about losing IP etc. and then Caro says her bit about the assistants.
