Is this genuinely peoples concern in this day and age, or just trying to answer a question no one is really answering.

In another article, the proposed time was 7am-1pm.

I'm only looking at this from my own perspective, sure, but that seems fairly unworkable.

There is never going to be a time that suits everyone.

Not sure why pairoftits is even raising it, I would have thought he has bigger issues to deal with.

Perhaps 9 - 3 is outdated but I struggle to think of a better solution.

Heck, make school 8- 4 with a three day weekend.
We had 8 - 4.30 in trade school 1 day a week (and on occasion block weeks). It wasn't so bad if there was at least some workshop time but 8 hours sitting in the classroom was waaay too long to maintain efficient concentration even as a motivated adult.

And you want to give this to kids with a fraction of the attention span?

Who is going to get up at 530 am to get the kids off to school.?

Also what about those kids who catch public transport to school?

It would have been a long time since any of these politicians had to catch public transport, but before 7am a lot of the services may only come 1-2 times per hour and many of these kids have to get connecting services as well.

With an extra day off to wank, the attention span may not be as frazzled.

'No longer suits parents'.

OK but does it suit students? Is a longer/shorter/earlier/later day the best learning environment?

Kids already do after school stuff whether it's sports of after school care etc. Can guarantee if you implemented a 7am-1pm school day some kids would be there until 4 or 5pm. Are kids going to do after school sport at 1pm in summer?

I remember talk before about making the school day later for the poor poppets who can't function at 9am. So a 10/10.30am start for the more senior year levels at high school.

Yeah good luck with that, when they get to the real world, become a tradie for instance and have to be up at 5/6am.

FWIW back in 1997 I had 4 x 8am classes, while it was a bit of a bitch I coped ok.

If you're child is unable to get themselfes too school and back then your raising an idoit.

It's pretty well established teens need more sleep than other age groups, I don't see how bringing the start time forward for school will help anyone.

herpa derpa earlier bedtime - no, as a sufferer of sleep issues, it didn't really matter what time I went to bed, didn't really matter what the routine was. My sleep pattern had it's own idea.

Perrorteterter has like 500 kids why would he want to experiment with different times starting school?
