Unusual for a team board not to have this type of thread.. If this has been deliberately done can a mod delete it. Thanks.

I watched parts of the game on the weekend and the conditions seemed to disadvantage you rather than bring the teams closer which is unusual.

Interested to hear what you guys think will be your changes this week...and also what you thought of Watts not starting on the ground. Sure he would've got roughed up but that's expected. I just think sitting him off the ground for the first however minutes doesn't show confidence in his ability to handle playing against men at this level.

Probably have to wait until the weekend because fortunately for us, Casey play this weekend and have the bye next weekend.

At the moment though i'd make the following changes:

Out: Whelan (depending on his ribs), Bell, ???, ???

In: Miller, Newton, Jurrah, Bennell

Although probably leaves us a defender short but perhaps Bruce could play a shut down role in the backline.

Dunno who the other 2 outs could be, I would list PJ as an out but Spencer is not ready to come back up to AFL level.

Bruce was frustrating last week. Did some nice things to set up some scoring shots, had three shots on goal himself, but his chase and vigour at the contest was embarrassing. I wouldn't mind getting Petterd in as a HBFer as he was always meant to be and make an example of Bruce. He's no the future and if he's going to be setting poor examples to the young brigade, he's useless. Now I wait for my head to be bitten off.

PJ has to stay in. He's playing like a hack at the moment but his around the ground work will be needed against Ryder. Jamar would get spanked by him self (just a side note, how much has Jamar improved!)

Bennell must come in to help cope with the pace of Essendon. But who to go out? Whelan if his ribs are bad would be the obvious one. But if Whelan is ok it looks like Cheney will be the unlucky one AGAIN.

In: Petterd, Miller, Bennell
Out: Bruce, Bell, (Whelan) Cheney

It's fair to say players like Dunn, Cheney and Petterd are fringe players at the moment. But I wish we only brought them in to play their roles and when they're at Casey they played their roles there as well. Dunn should come in as a forward when he comes in and play as a forward at Casey. Petterd should come in as a HBF and play there at Casey. Cheney, is a special case, he does play his position but he's just in and out of the side.

IN: Jurrah, Miller, Bennel

OUT: Whelan (if injured) OR Cheney (if Whelan plays the bloodnut is always the unlucky one), Bell, Maric

I really want Jurrah to debut and Bennel back, and Miller is needed unfortunately!

The outs are damn hard (except Bell), and Maric is extremely unlucky in my book. But I had no idea who to take out for Jurrah! And seeing as they'd both be playing a FP/HFF role he is the unlucky one.

I would put J-Mac as the third out on form but that won't happen.

Impossible thread a week out from the game. I'll guess the OP didn't check the fixture.

Depends how Casey go. If Miller has 3 touches he stays there, if he has a blinder (and please not just in junk time like last week) then he walks back in.

Yeah... provisionally, I'd say Miller, Jurrah, Bennell, Newton and Petterd AND Martin, in for JMac, Maric, Bell, Whelan, PJ, and Bruce.

I reckon we need to send a fair few players back to Casey after what happened on Monday, to send a general message to the team about discipline, the need for a more consistent effort across the board.

Basically I think there are only really 9 of our guys, at most, who can hold their heads up after that match... (Edit- Jamar was definitely amongst the best of the 9 IMO) and the rest, outside of that 2nd quarter, were passengers.

Sending Bruce and JMac back especially would help to reinforce the message, even though I think it's unlikely to happen.

But like Merc said, the jury's out on this until after the Casey match this weekend anyway.

Out

Bruce - is about 2 years overdue for a run in the seconds.
Whelan - love him, but he is finished
Bell - worst player on the list, and shouldnt have been selected in the first place

In

Jurrah - the time is right
Miller - forward line needs some muscle to help Watts/Jurrah
Bennell - a no-brainer

On thin ice - McLean, McDonald

agree with pretty much everything there except id probably swap bruce with McDonald, i feel as though Bruce has more to offer at this stage.

Stef Martin in for Paul Johnson, anyone?
Completely agree. Bombers rucks are understocked and you can always pencil PJ in to cost us at least 2 or 3 goals a game through massive brainfades. Let Jamar do the majority of the rucking while Martin pinch hits and plays down back.

We really missed Martins general footy smarts down back on Monday, i have never seen so many Collingwood players run into an open goal. So frustrating.

I agree but sticking with Ryder would be a problem, although I spose that PJ has barely any (and that's being generous) accountabilty so it wouldn't make much difference.

Maybe because the game's over a week away...

I would like to see these players out (but probably won't happen...)

OUT- Bruce, Rivers, Paul Johnson, McDonald, Whelan, McLean

IN - McKenzie, Bennell, Dunn, Martin, Bartram, Valenti

Martin for Paul Johnson
McKenzie for Bruce
Dunn for McDonald
Bartram for Whelan
Bennell for Rivers
Valenti for McLean...

You do know that would result in us getting absolutely annihilated right?

Not necessarily, at least we'd be sending out a couple of players who have got some intestinal fortitude..

We'd clearly be sacrificing class, but what good is 'class' when the basics are not being done by the aforementioned to an acceptable level?

Jordie McKenzie getting picked is not beyond the realms of possiblity...

A new rule from the AFL means from this year onwards at round 11 all clubs are allowed to elevate one more rookie regardless of long-term injuries etc...

Melbourne: Jordie McKenzie
Colin Garland and John Meesen are currently on the long-term injury list and are not expected to play again in 2009. Rookie midfielder Shane Valenti has been upgraded for Garland, with Jake Spencer replacing Meesen.
This now leaves the door ajar for midfielder McKenzie, who has impressed with Casey Scorpions in the VFL. McKenzie gained 30 touches last round to add weight to his case.

Thanks... That's the reason I included McKenzie :thumbsu:

He's been very good at VFL level, and the way things are going i think he deserves an opportunity to show what he can do at senior level. I think he could have a future with us TBH. But we'll never know if we don't give him a run at senior level.

At least it would be creating competition for spots in the best 22 :thumbsu:

Yeah I only just found out about that rule- think I might be a tad behind there- whoops! :o

nonetheless despite my lateness to the news (did the hear the the Nazis have invaded Poland?) I got excited when i saw it!

He has some solid wraps from quite a few people on these boards so hopefully he gets a go!

Out: Cheney, Warnock, Whelan, McDonald (injuries, Macca's knee doesn't look fit to me)
In: Bennell, Martin, Valenti, Newton or Miller (whoever goes better at Casey this weekend)

Bennell in for speed and skill, Cheney unlucky though.
Warnock, tries hard but is outclassed regularly.
Whelan and McDonald will depend how they come up from their injuries.

I'm giving Bell two or three more games to prove himself.
Holding off Jurrah's debut, based on giving Watts a max. of 5 games in the seniors. Jurrah to come in and replace him after that. I think they'll play similar roles in a leading HFF/wing. I don't think we can play them both.
Valenti logical replacement for Whelan/McDonald. Would even play him as a small forward.
Newton/Miller, need another tall, simple.
