Guys, I watched Gilbert for 95% of the game. While I have no doubts over Gilbo's ability & intent, he is either either still injured or more unfit than me. He'll need time to get back to his best & I think the club owes it to him, and needs to give him that chance. Out: Gilbo

He seems to have been down on form even before his injury. Its a pity because last year he was great to watch. I really hope he can get back on track.

Agree. One of my favourites, but out for me too.

If Bakes isn't fit I think we'll have to bring Birss back into the team. Not only was he unlucky to be dropped on his current form but he did a great job on Heath Shaw earlier in the season and we'll need somebody to stop their small forwards like Grant, Thomas, Campbell and Jones if they all play.

As for Gilbert, I agree but again he might be needed in defence. I think the major thing we learnt from Friday night is that he's probably not suited (or at least ready) to play as a forward.

Massive Game.

If we win it could really set us up for a run to the finals, would be a huge bonus if we make it with the inexperienced side. If Collingwood lose today, they're suddenly pulled back and a second spot opens up. :thumbsu:

Time to take the oppurtunity, we have the easiest draw out of the contenders:

Roos - Gold Coast - Winnable but i'd have the Roos as favorites
Carlton - Dome - Winnable
Hawthorn - Dome - Probably a loss
Eagles - Subi - Definitely Winnable
Port - Dome - Definitely Winnable

Would love to have Dal back in the side but from all reports today Dal didn't do anything to warrant a call up, if he is called up that would look really bad and really wouldn't send across a message.

Milney was back to his melbourne form as well.

Man that's depressing, I remember when travelling to Subi to play us was something to be feared now it's like a visit to the Chocolate factory :o

...or a visit to the square factory cos you always come home with 4 points :D

Birss has come to come into the side.

32 possessions for the Scorpions and is one of the best kicks in the team. He must come in.

Gwilt is being played to see if he can prove worthy of a spot on the list in the future, unfortunately it's not looking good.

Kangaroos small forwards are the key here. Would love Baker to come in and sit on Lindsay Thomas or Matt Campbell.

What's your recent Interstate record like, saints fans?

Does playing at Cararra hold any fears in your opinion?

Appreciate any thoughts......

Our recent records in South Australia and Western Australia are far superior to our recent record in Queensland.

Playing the kids is all very well, but if we'd played any team other than Freo on Friday (Melbourne and Essendon exceptions) we would have bee thrashed. We need to include senior players like Kosi, Dal and Milne if we want to have any chance of beating North and making the 8. If we did make the finals with the kids in it would be a bonus, but the chances of that are very slim. There is a time and a place for playing kids and it is not in season defining games, and if we lose to North our season is over.

It depends on the kids. if you have "kids" like the useless hacks at Freo, or at Carlton in the truly dark years, then you don't play them. But if they're good, get them in because they'll actually help you win. So, with that in mind Armo, Allen, Eddy, even McQualter all stay. McEvoy goes.

These changes would not surprise. With Allen's game being serviceable as a lead-up option we don't need Chucky for this game (who somehow got himself into trouble with almost every possession). I'd actually prefer Fergie if he is fit and Kosi and Gardi don't come up (if Gardi plays I'd like Macca to play in front of Chucky and Fergie).

Gwilt would be lucky imo to remain in the side, but he does wash Ross's car which helps. I can't believe that many people had him playing a good game. Freo kicked to his opponent on a number of occasions, the two kicks that actually went forward floated and missed the target (his strength?), and when he came in to get contact on Farmer in the goalsquare he missed the body completely and it was lucky Farmer was having an ordinary night (dropped it cold).

Squizz, I think you're the most observant poster on here but I think you should go and have another look at Gwilt's game. He relies on judgment of the ball rather than body on body contact which looks a little hairy but almost always comes off because he's so damn good at it. Kicking not perfect but his defensive skills were very, very good.

Injury list according to the AFL website:
ST KILDA
Matthew Ferguson (groin) test
Lenny Hayes (back/hamstring) test
Justin Koschitzke (knee) test
Adam Schneider (hamstring) test
Jayden Attard (knee) 1 week
Xavier Clarke (hamstring) 1 week
Glenn Chivers (foot) 1 week
Michael Gardiner (hamstring) 1 week
Steven Baker (knee) 1-2 weeks
Eljay Connors (shoulder) season
Matt Maguire (broken foot) season
Luke van Rheenen (foot) season

Based on that my changes are now
In: Dal Santo Milne Koschitzke Birss Schneider
Out: Dempster Eddy C. Gardiner Geary Gilbert

Just remember gang.

We won the game. Yes it wasn't great, but we won.

Don't want to go making 4 and 5 changes. We need a settled unit. Injuries are fine, but you don't want to omit 4 or 5 players.

Birss, Dal Santo, Milne should all be available.

Also there are a number of players who may return from injury:

Matthew Ferguson – Groin, test

Adam Schneider – Hamstring tightness, test

Justin Koschitzke – Knee, test

and hopefully Lenny Hayes – Back spasm related hamstring complaint, test

I would only consider playing those who are fit - given we have an extra week to recuperate.

I think it most likely be like this:

Out: J Geary, Hayes, (and possibly C Gardiner)

In: Birss, Dal Santo, (Milne)

I suppose sometimes we are blinded (to other things) when we see something we don't like. I accept that some (which includes the coach) have seen some good points, but all I am seeing is Tim Elliott all over (where we persist until reality kicks in).

I thought kicking was the best feature of his game, yet he had 6 against Sydney and 8 against Freo (and of the 8 I only remember 2 going forwards and neither was pretty).

He has a big arse and should have bumped Farmer into the third row, where the cheer squad could have taken care of "business".

I would agree, but when you get decimated by injury and players return at a similar time what do you do? We can't rely on that performance to knock North off.

just like to say riewoldt played an absolute blinder of a game on friday night:thumbsu: BUT if he is a good captain he will be able to back it up this week. he cant just play a good game here and then, it has to be all the time:thumbsu:

Well given that none of those players have been in top form, I wouldn't rush to bring them in. Kosi and Dal I would, but not Schneider. He needs some time at Casey. We need to let some blokes get comfortable without making multiple changes every week.

Yeah, it's a fair comment. I'd prefer we did the same with X (another fav of mine), as he seems to get rushed in alot.

Article on the Age website suggested likely changes were
In: Dal Santo (No Milne)
Out: Hayes/Geary (McEvoy, Eddy and Allen safe)
Depending on the injury status of Hayes. Didn't give any sources though, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Yeah exactly. At least give the player a chance to get some confidence up. Would rather a 100% good ordinary player than an 80% step above.
