Still 5 H&A games to sought the mix and plenty of time for Cam as well if he were to go back .
I agree. I just don’t think business as usual is going to work with Rayner. There is also the question of equity among the playing group. This season Cam Rayner has been our LOWEST RANKED player on the AFL Website for SIX games and he has been in the BOTTOM FOUR and additional FOUR TIMES. Continuing to put senior games into him is not helping him and come finals, may end up harming our prospects. His numbers last night were terrible, off the back of a week where his numbers were terrible.

I still can't believe we are winning games with Christensen in the side!!! Didn't the oracle give us the tip we'd never win a game with him in the side.
Bundy's experience really helped us last night didn't it.

Snuck a couple of goals by just getting to the right spot.

I think Charlie and Linc often try to play big because we struggle to take contested marks in our forward line to their own detriment on occasions . We're not the only club with that issue . Oscar certainly gives us a decent presence when he's down there.

Gotta laugh at some of the suggestions for next week . Resting McLuggage , hipwood , Bailey , Rayner etc.

First of all Rayner has been pretty poor all year I have been a huge critic of his endurance , pressure , lack of touches and general skills but he ain’t getting dropped . If he was it should of been done about 10 weeks ago . Fagan is going with him .

You ain’t resting luggage or Bailey due to hamstrings . We are second with west coast and pies and tigers breathing down our next we are not in a position to be giving some of our best players especially luggage weeks off . If there are fit they play simple as .

Also heard of a few critics of Bailey last week. The kid is gonna be a jet plain and simple . He has pace to burn , is fearless and can get the footy . No surprise we have won 5 on the trot since he has come back in . He swaps with answerth from half back to wing and also allows us flexibility when there are dangerous teams . Also teams like Essendon which carved up us his forward pressure is an added bonus .

10-2 when allowing less than 90 points this year

Hawks have scored 90+ twice this season (against Geelong and Carlton)

I think a lot of people will be tipping Hawthorn which is a good sign. These games are just huge for us. Got to keep rolling

Yeah if we win against Hawks we can afford to drop one of Richmond or Cats (assuming on Gabba form we win dogs and GC). If we go 4 and 1 we can finish second our third, if we go 2 and 3 - we drop to about 6-7 (going off a basic Ladder predictor scenarios). Every game has been huge since about round 10.. but this next one is especially big interns of top 4.

If we beat the hawks i think the way richmond are moving the ball that game will be the biggest danger due to our form in the losses against pies and bombers earlier in the year and how efficiently they moved the ball around in those matches. Geelong showed today they can also not take their opportunities so I really hope McStay can build on the way he is running and impacting to also hit the scoreboard in a Jack Darlingesque coming of age, and Rayner also clicks in a Jordan de Goeyesque goal fit, and we steam home and take home the premiership

I sometimes wonder if any of our guys put their hands up and ask to be dropped? Would they get more respect from teammates if they identified their own need to go back to the 2nds for a few weeks and perhaps earn there position?

I say this because Im wondering if Rayner may have tried this and Fagan has said no, you have your role up forward and you'll continue it.

Im not honestly sure either way but so far our match committee has chosen good lineups based on our results so. Yeah.

I would drop Hipwood and let him rest for a few weeks so he is ready for finals. He is clearly not moving well and playing is not going to help that.

I thought the decision to play Hipwood was a poor one. He hardly touched the ball(third quarter he was good) but he appeared proppy on the TV and some posters who were at the match have said he was limping. One claimed he was limping during the prematch warm up!!!!

Five weeks to go so give him a couple of weeks off if necessary. He must be right for the finals.

I think Hipwood and most footballers need to learn how to play through these niggles.

Goose Maguire had to bash his leg into place before games. Johnno Brown would've played injured most of his career. Even in our game Ben Brown had half of one his legs strapped.

If we're going to wait until he's 100% after every injury he might not play that many games for us.

I thought he looked better as the game went on. Dished off a brilliant handball to set up Lyons in the last quarter.

This.

Just remember how many times we would hear our players have pain killing injections as well during the premiership years.

We are deep in the season now and we are 3rd (2nd on points). Realistically this is not the time you say to a player "awww diddums you have a niggle, would you like to put your feet up and order uber eats on the Team account and when you're ready you can come back"

Teams around us are faltering. Geelong are beatable and tiring, West Coast copped a few decent injuries to some star players and could be out for a week or 2 and cost them some games, Collingwoods forms is hit and miss, GWS the same. Richmond are coming and we are sitting 3rd, the smallest injury list, grinded out a tough win after back to back tough away games and came back with the full points. This is the time we push and while other teams become exposed we grab our chance.
If the planets align and we finish top 2 and win the 1st week game on.

Look, I agree with you in general but just felt I should correct you on the bolded. We're in second and I'm not going to get tired of that for a long time. :D

I suppose too we have the bye before the finals which for Hipwood may be of great benefit.

Would be interesting to know if he pulled up OK. Don't want things to get worse when a week or two off might solve the problem completely, but I have no inside knowledge, so have to bow to the match management by the club.

Worth noting that it is Darcy Gardiner's 100th game this week too.
For a guy who started slow and had plenty of areas for improvement, what a solid, reliable defender he has turned into.

It's time for PFK'S Wacky and Insane Prediction time!

On the way home to September, the Lions will have a glorious run - except a rather nasty loss to Geelong. Not that we'll lose by a lot, but it will just feel like we could have done better if we'd played them earlier in the year and knew what we were up against. We'll then barely get over the line over the Tigers, and the Bigfooty Lions board will resemble a morgue (seriously, anyone would think we'd won another spoon the way some of you will carry on). We'll then have our break and manage to do reasonably well in the finals - until we meet Geelong again in the Grand Final where we completely mop the floor with them.

Brisbane Lions, 2019 Premiers.

So yeah, sorry Hawthorn, you getting whomped again.

I think it's more than a niggle with Hippy . Medial damage can be dicey ,I guess we would have to think they wouldn't be playing him if there was any prospect of it deteriorating.

The Mongrel Punt have got stuck into Cam again saying his lack of intensity may very well cost us a game at this end of the season. It's got to the stage now where you'd be petrified to drop him in case a big one came out of nowhere in an important game ,and they're all important now. I was in the camp that no one else would probably do better until Keays played last week. I'm also wondering about Corey Lyons ,he gets in and under but can he play forward ? If you want to go a bigger body then there's Wooler who looks a smart footballer and can take a grab.

I was not a believer until last year and now I think he is one of our most consistent and valuable players. He was again very important for us on the weekend.

I know we've been saying it for what feels like the whole year now, but this really is a massive game for us. IF we can win this one, then top 4 is really in our own hands from there. We take care of business at home and that last round against Richmond won't matter so much in as far as a top 4 spot should already be locked away.

As I said in the review thread Hipwood just didn't look at all right on the weekend so if he's still sore I'd be thinking about bringing Walker back in for structure purposes.

If they haven't dropped Cam this late in the season, I don't think they will now going into a potential final series but if we did, I wouldn't mind giving Wooler a crack in that role.

Cam can do match winning things.. he may not be doing it consistently or much at all currently - but he’s capable and the coaches know it.
He needs to be in the team.
I understand the frustration with him but he is not far off despite what people think. I feel like it will pay off and he’ll play a big part in a big game before the years out.
