Do we think Coleman will come straight back to half back and Zorko will go back into the middle ?

The way Fagan mentioned it, then Zorko said ‘don’t count me out of the middle yet’ with a laugh, during the postgame interview, indicated to me that he is just covering for kiddie, expanding into a new role, but expects to be back in the midfield soon.

Looks like Chol will be out you would think?

Adams on Casboult will be a clash of the titans, two big brutes going at it :p

But it will be our small defenders who will have their hands full. Starc on Rankine? Gardiner on Rosas and Answerth on Ainsworth? (tbh probably switch starc and answerth)

Berry could run with Miller maybe.

They like to perform against us, but they fall off and we get stronger as the game goes on.

Should be a QClash to remember!

**** - Ainwerth and Answerth might end a few careers in the commentary box, even Hodge was calling him bloody Ainsworth on Thursday, he is his coach!

Question, do Lions members get a free ticket to the Suns hime qclash? I noticed a ticket for GA listed under my name. If I buy 3 more tickets for GA would I be able to relocate and sit next to my family aka like you can do with GA tickets at Marvel?

Yeah free GA ticket. You can definitely relocate with those.

Outs: Gardiner, JBerry, Robinson

Ins: J.Payne, Dev Rob, Kiddy Coleman

For mine Gardiner looks like he just needs to go back to the 2's and find some form and confidence again.

JBerry looks like he needs a break to rest that shoulder for a week or two.

If Kiddy Coleman is ready to come back in, I'd like to see Answerth moved to the wing.

would you consider Ryan Lester instead of Payne? Payne is a monster, but frog might be more versatile. Saw Him at Princes Park in the seconds a few weeks back and Lester was superb.....Payne was good as well but the Lester/ Gardiner swap seems more like for like. I wouldn't disagree with the rest of your changes.

Yeah you're probably right in terms of like for like but I just don't know about playing Lester at his age when we could blood more games into Payne.

We’re playing with one to many small/medium forwards at the moment, who aren’t impacting through the midfield enough.

Cameron
McCarthy
Rayner
Bailey
Lohman/Cockatoo

And we’re playing with three wingers.

McCluggage
Robinson
Ah Chee

This is leaving us very light on through the middle, with only three inside mids.

Neale
Lyons
Berry

We really do need to be dropping a small/medium forward or a wing to bring another mid (ahem; Robertson) in.

This has been my issue for a few years now.

We are thin in the middle.

If Lyons or Neale goes down, look out.

We need to move away from Cocky for a while and get Dev in.

I saw a stat on The First Crack highlighting we are now the #1 team at getting marks I50 from rebound from defense 50, or something like that.

Some very good, half back transition measure.

Anyway, it’s all Zorko - there’s an argument to say he is currently the best half back flanker in the league, in terms of damage off half back.

Interesting when kiddie is back.

I’d actually like to trial starc in the midddle, he is quick, strong, powerful. That just leaves Kiddie, Answerth and Zorko as you small/medium defenders, dunno!?

I saw this post a couple of days ago and thought it was spot on. We have flankers trying to be midfielders where we should be doing the opposite. That would leave the likes of Lohman/Cockatoo totally out and the possibility of Rayner or Bailey starting on the bench. I love Mitch and what he has done for our team but his disposal is sorely lacking and the hack kicks really aren't good enough anymore. We do need someone to go past him and if that is Ah Chee then so be it but I do need to see more time from him in this position. Kiddy would have to come back in IMO and he should take Answerth whose disposal is also sorely lacking. If the next inside mid is Dev or T.Berry i don't mind. I just don't think that Matho should be that answer. Gardiner has been a workhorse for us over the years but he has had an absolute shocker lately especially with the frees against. It might be time to let someone else have a run there. There has been alot of displeasure as to how the team is going but the benfit is we have time to tinker with things as the season progresses. I am not sure what the coaching team think is our best 22 but the team that I would like to see sooner rather than later.
B: Gardiner/Lester, Andrews, Zorko
HB: Rich, Adams, Starcevich
C: Ah Chee, Berry, McCluggage
HF: Rayner, Hipwood, McCarthy
F: Charlie, Joe, McStay
R: Big O, Neale, Lyons
S: Kiddy, Dev, Bailey, T.Berry/Robbo

I think maybe there are some rose tinted goggles on about Payne. Gardiner had a bad night against Collingwood but he’s proven at this level over years. In Payne’s last outings in the backline I remember him being pretty error prone in important moments. Gardiner is also a much steadier user of the ball at senior level. Certainly Payne has some good attributes but I don’t think he’ll lead to the instant improvement some are hoping for.

I thought he'd been pretty good when he's played. From memory his worst game was probably the one against Richmond and that felt worse because Harris spent all night trying to cover for him when it wasn't needed. Also I feel more comfortable with the ball in Payne's hands, feels like he doesn't lose his head as often as Gardiner as well. Personally I don't think there's a huge difference between the two with Payne having the much higher ceiling, while also being more versatile so I'd probably favour more games into Payne.

Harris tried to cover for him in multiple games and it never looked good. His disposal is pretty iffy as well.

Dizzy had a bad game, but has been pretty solid so far this season. If he keeps playing like that then I'd get dropping him, but I wouldn't make the change yet. Mind you, I'm probably the biggest Payne sceptic on this board so take what I say with a grain of salt.

That feels like more of a Harris problem though, when Payne was playing there was a fair bit of movement personnel wise in the backline, I'd like to see what he could do in a settled back 6.

His kicking has been absolutely incredible.

Josh Drummond has always been the best kick I've seen in Brisbane colours, Zorko can't kick it as far but on this small sample size so far, I think he might be better.

This is interesting—I think Gardiner has far, far steadier disposal.

You may be right on his potential. I don’t think he is ready to hold a spot in an established side. It may be a Keays situation where he needs a lot of games in an environment that can carry the mistakes.

Suns, Swans away and then Eagles at home.

Would hope we win at least 2/3 of those games. Would be a good result to start the year 6-2. Great if we can make it 7-1.

I don’t think he makes anymore mistakes than Gardiner is probably where I’m at, I think they’re at a similar level and if Payne got settled in the backline the same way Gardiner had I think he would go past him. Where Gardiner probably does have the edge is in setting up and being a leader in the backline, if he is vocal and helping other guys set up properly then we may lose something but I’d hope we’ve got enough experience back there at this point where it wouldn’t make a difference.
