In: Lohmann
Out: Tunstill (played well, just the one to make way)

Sam Marshall to get another go (I assume as sub)

Zac Bailey & Charlie Cameron are out of form.
I thought both would have the maturity to ask to be dropped a la Rich & Gunston

After watching the vfl I would consider Fort and Beecken. Not sure how Beecken would fit (ie who would drop out). But it would allow Fletcher to return to the wing increasing our defensive running. Beecken plays taller at half back and has a more mature body. I gave Day four games, I think Fort for Day is becoming abit obvious. Don’t think it is a long term solution. A run in the vfl full time ruck might help Day in the longer term.

Saints outside run and defensive structure will be an issue.

Hard to tell if it's a classic Mulligan game, or if we take into account some of the poor effort in first halves before this.

Tunstill got a bit of the ball but wasn't great with it. Pressure was average in a game where the mid group were poor. Maybe could do with another game but not sure he's up to it.

Marshall looked much better while he was on (and sounds like he played well in the VFL). He could do with a full game.

Still think Fletcher would be better on the wing too. He got a bit exposed playing down back. Leaked a few goals through his man (and Zorkos but that happens everywhere to the main rebounder)

May have to wait till Tuesday's injury report on Ah Chee.
But he has had that knee heavily strapped for a while. Reason is unclear.

For now, Out: Ah-Chee In: Lohmann. But a worry that Lohmann has taken this long too.

Possibly Out: Tunstill or Marshall. In: Doedee if the club think he is ready.
Fletcher back to wing and Marshall/Tunstill sub.

Tunstill played his best AFL game but i just don't see him in our best 23 going forward. Happy to be proven wrong.

Marshall showed he has AFL ability in just under a quarter of footy.
Why don't teams replace players at 3/4 time. Consistently it is done just after 3/4 time.
Marshall had 6 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles 1 clearance & 3 rebound 50's
Backed up the next day with 26 disposals (3rd most on the ground) 12 contested & 8 clearances.

Yep, I agree with those calling for Fletcher to stick to the wing. Robbing Peter a bit playing him in the backs.

Balance seems to be off without Starce. I think we need that extra lock down defender with Answerth. I don't know who we've got at a good enough level to do it. Is that a role that Brain could handle? Do we need Ah Chee to slot in as the 7th defender for a while? Doedee could if he was fit and confident. A few games short of that at the moment. I lean towards Ah Chee. I think the negating role on halfbacks he's done as a fwd, transfers better into the back 7 and the role needed.

Lohman in for Tunstill, and he fills the sm fwd role opened by Ah Chee's move back. Tunstill unlucky to a degree but he has shown he's capable of stepping up should injury require. Happy for Hollafora to get another start as sub.

The only other positional change that could occur is Day being replaced. Not likely to happen, Fages I think will stick with him for a few games yet. I am not opposed to Fort coming in, playing the 2 rucks. Big O taking the tallest defender, giving Hippy n Morris a bit more space.

Barring unforeseen injuries I'm selecting

Lester, Payne, Answerth
Zorko, Andrews, Wilmot

Fletcher, Neale, Berry
Big O, Dunkley, Clugg

Charlie, Hippy, Bailey
Lohman, Morris, Rayner

Fort, Wash, Lash, Ah Chee (7th def)
Sub -- Marshall

Game was over and delaying his sub let him play in the VFL to stay fit.

Zac Bailey has had a great start to the year and easily one of our best players up until the loss on Thursday night. He is not out of form!

He's right about Charlie though. He's been a ghost this season. I understand he's playing a defensive role, but it's obviously not working.
I believe it's more that not enough other players have followed Charlie, in committing to a defensive role. Outside of Dunkley and Berry, the rest of our mids tend to cheat forward, and Neale isn't winning as many contested ground balls, so the opposition is spanking us at clearances.

And I'm one of those that believes WAshcroft looks for the one two, way to much and puts teammates in to trouble more than is necessary.

But, we've got a long season ahead to right the ship, and we've banked some early wins against mostly so so opposition.

Tunstill out. No defensive game. We have lost 5 of the 8 games he has played. Coincidence? Fort must replace Day he's a better Ruck and more mobile. We could then give Oscar more of a breather up forward on rotation. If Lohmann is good to go he's in. If AhChee is needing a rest Beecken could debut or McKenna back. St Kilda are going to run and gun much more than recently so we are going to need mobility. Maybe Dev in as a defensive forward on Wanganeen Milera

Not the biggest fan of Tunstill at AFL level, but I would say him coming in usually means we're missing one or more top line players so while it's not a coincidence, it's probably not because of Jimmy's efforts specifically.
