Good to see Kai off the injury list as wellAfter this weekend, in terms of clear best 23 players, only Starce on it really.

After watching Doedee in the VFL last week, I think he absolutely should be in the team against St Kilda. He wasn't at his best, but he wasn't afraid of contact either, he fought hard for the ball. I firmly believe he's the answer to the Starce-shaped hole in our defence right now.Balance seems to be off without Starce. I think we need that extra lock down defender with Answerth. I don't know who we've got at a good enough level to do it. Is that a role that Brain could handle? Do we need Ah Chee to slot in as the 7th defender for a while? Doedee could if he was fit and confident. A few games short of that at the moment. I lean towards Ah Chee. I think the negating role on halfbacks he's done as a fwd, transfers better into the back 7 and the role needed.

Actually that was his second game this season, he played against Richmond too.If that's his first game back in 2 years, not worth rushing him.
He would be better off building some match fitness for 3-4 games.
It was his second game but they were 3 weeks apart or something because of the crazy scheduling. If that's his first game back in 2 years, not worth rushing him.

Are you not tired of the Day criticism especially when he was in the middle group of our best and worse players. What are the chances Day actually has a good game for once he got smashed in the ruck last week a massive reason we lost every clearance when day was in the ruck surely he gets a run at VFL level soon

We were comprehensively beaten in the middle of the ground. Are you not tired of the Day criticism especially when he was in the middle group of our best and worse players.
I am happy for Day to keep his spot but if Fagan chooses someone else than that's fine with me also.
He was far from our worst forward but got beaten in the ruck contest against Cox.
Result Cox 8 H/O (4 to advantage) to Day 1 (0 to advantage).
I might point out Oscar only had 17 hit outs with 4 hit outs to advantage. So, both rucks were well beaten.
Cox: 8 Disposals 2 marks 0 goals
Day: 14 disposals 8 marks 1 goal
Personally, i'm looking forward to seeing kiddy rejoin the team. I feel like we were at our most dominant when he was in our squad. He gives us something that no one else can replicate coming from the backline and his kicking precision is elite.
Thats true all our midfielders were off their usual game. Midfield includes rucks and wings. We were comprehensively beaten in the middle of the ground.
Ruck was only one part of the problem.
Mids were so reactive and over committal to the ball leaving too many of their players free on the outside. And nothing was done to fix this as the night wore on, in fact it got worse.
Do you think he’s had a good game yet? Fort showed more in round 1 than Day has shown in all of his 4 games Day isn’t a ruck anymore than he’s a forward. Fages is stubborn though Day needs VFL to work on he’s gameAre you not tired of the Day criticism especially when he was in the middle group of our best and worse players.

As I said Stubborn I’m hopeful he proves me wrong but so far he’s yet to impress me (DAY)Day had a personal tragedy and has come back to play for the team. He's playing his role every week and steadily improving as well.
If we know anything about our coach after all these years, he'll be the last person to drop Day under these circumstances. Day has to do something completely non-negotiable like pull out of a contest, give away repeated frees by losing his mind on the field or give up too easy early in the game for Fagan to even consider anything like dropping him.
Sounds like we could use a guy who had 28 hitouts in the VFL last week then. Particularly as we're facing Marshall, a top 3 ruck in the league. He was far from our worst forward but got beaten in the ruck contest against Cox.

And in 10 or 20 years time we'll be having exact same discussion about how "oh the umpires don't know how to measure 20m, just make it 25m and be done with it".They have started doing that with NOT15, but doesn’t help if the player taking the mark can’t hear the call.
I’m aligned with many of the media - just change the rule to 20 meters instead of 15 - then adjudicate as they currently are. They’ll still get many wrong, but it should take out the 10-meter kick being paid as a mark.
Talking about tec.And in 10 or 20 years time we'll be having exact same discussion about how "oh the umpires don't know how to measure 20m, just make it 25m and be done with it".
History might not repeat but it often rhymes.
I still remember when the mark was only 10m.
It makes sense to be that the mark should be the same distance as the bounce.
Ultimately we need to improve the tech used in the sport to better be able to measure 15m. Or 20m. Or 50m. Or whatever other newfangled distance you want measured.
Certainly making the mark 20m will be of no benefit. If anything, it will make the umpire's decision even more difficult.
It had a couple of 'mares during the AFLW season. So they have put it away for the time being.Talking about tec.
What has happened to the chip inside the ball that was going to help out in all sorts of ways.
Trialed last year in the AFLW but i can't recall any overriding of score decisions.
You would think if the AFL thought it was working, they would be making some announcements on how it will change the game etc.

Ball-tracking tech to drive score reviews in 2024 AFLW season
The AFL's new 'smart footy' is at the centre of a new score assist system that will operate in the coming 2024 NAB AFLW seasonwww.afl.com.au
I don't agree. Assuming the recent crackdown is aimed at eliminating the 10-meter pass, then increasing the limit to 20-meters should help to achieve that. Given we don't have the technology to do the measurement, then the limit is an approximation anyway. 15-meters +/- 5 meters, becomes 20 meters +/- 5 meters. And in 10 or 20 years time we'll be having exact same discussion about how "oh the umpires don't know how to measure 20m, just make it 25m and be done with it".
