I'm off to the pokies you blokes can have a look at the Wookies tag on Martin here, there is also a Martin highlights vid still around where the wookie is sighted once,as scares as big foot. This Guthrie job on Martin is like Kersten on Gibson, complete beat up.
On the H/Sun internet site - 2hrs ago headline - Geelong could be dealt a major blow with ruckman Rhys Stanley in extreme doubt - cant read the whole article because of the subscribe paywall
I think Murdoch will come in - i think Smith is listed as a sucker emergency which Rich wont fall for
Abbott may surprise - havent forgotten Oren Stephenson 1stgame against Hawthorn - and the 9 goal 1st qtr which resulted from his ruck work
GEELONG could be dealt a major blow for tonight's blockbuster against Richmond with ruckman Rhys Stanley in extreme doubt for the clash at the MCG.
Stanley is struggling with a calf injury.
Ryan Abbott has been named to make his AFL debut on the big stage and will likely shoulder the ruck duties if Stanley is pulled out late.
Zac Smith was named as an emergency on Thursday night but it is believed Abbott is the preferred option.
The Cats could instead bring in a runner like Jordan Murdoch. James Parsons and Jackson Thurlow are the other two named emergencies.
Smith has been out of favour with coach Chris Scott and has played just three games this season, with his last in Round 9.
A local boy from Grovedale, Abbott was drafted as a mature-ager with pick 69 in the 2016 national draft.

2016 was a freak finals series, though - I don't think it really means much except that winning from seventh is not impossible. You only have to wind the clock back a few years and you'll see the Dogs were unsettled all year but managed to win it so i'm not buying into the unsettled thing.
I think we are 1 to 4, lost to the top two teams in the Tigers/Eagles by under 3 goals, Hawks by 1 point and beaten Pies, Port, GWS, Dees, Swans and Roos so if you personally think the unsettled thing is a factor then you would have to say we're a big chance this year.
Guthrie had an ordinary season, but played bloody well that night. He was similarly good in the corresponding game the year before, against Rioli and then through the middle.Enjoy throwing your money down the toilet. Not sure I'll trust the opinion of someone who gladly proclaims that he's going to the pokies and uses childish name calling for one of his own club's players.
From what I've seen of this video, it absolutely highlights how good a job Guth had done on Martin up to that point. One highlight of Martin in the first half, many in the second half. I watched that game closely and when Dusty got off the chain, he broke us. Don't forget Guthrie's job in Round 20 was stellar as well, so this isn't isolated. I hope they go with it again.
I wouldn't say freak finals series but I agree its still highly unlikely to win it from outside top 4. Where as before it was probs a 1% chance of happening its now a 15% chance of happening from 5th - 8th.2016 was a freak finals series, though - I don't think it really means much except that winning from seventh is not impossible.
Great commentNicest I've seen in a while. Same to you! For what it's worth, I think you'll have our measure, but hopefully the rain helps and it stops that fast game style which should advantage us. As long as we push you to the brink and show we're contenders without our own best 22 players in Stewart, McCarthy, Taylor, Ratugolea (and now) Stanley, then I'll be happy
Only two sides since the final eight was brought in (24 years) have won it from outside the four - statistically that's what, 8.5%?I wouldn't say freak finals series but I agree its still highly unlikely to win it from outside top 4. Where as before it was probs a 1% chance of happening its now a 15% chance of happening from 5th - 8th.
Knew Scott would be too weak to play two rucks. Smith must be scratching his head.
At least he didn’t bring in Parsons.
Has Stanley been officially ruled out yet?Knew Scott would be too weak to play two rucks. Smith must be scratching his head.
At least he didn’t bring in Parsons.
I’m talking about fan expectations not gamblers expectations. Gamblers would expect we take in a defensive game plan that doesn’t suit our side as we always do under Scott. Fans should expect we take in a game plan that best suites our side and if we did that then on talent and given what is at stake for both sides tonight we would be favourites. We should not expect as fans that our coaches are sh***. It gives them an excuse. No we're not.

We most certainly are not expected to win, we are deemed in the eyes of most to likely lose tonight.
They only have Houli and Prestia out who are of any significance. Blokes like Broad, Butler, Graham and Conca are role players and absolute potatoes who are easily replaced with other role players. We are expected to win. Richmond have nothing to play for and coming off a tough game and have a few injuries. This is nothing less then a final for Geelong. We must win to make top 4.
Good edit!What's wrong with Stanley?
Edit: Sorry, what is the injury? Don't want to start THAT discussion again.![]()
ask and you shalt receive. When's the game day thread open?
We do have more outs but even still our talent as good if not better and we have more to play for. They only have Houli and Prestia out who are of any significance. Blokes like Broad, Butler, Graham and Conca are role players and absolute potatoes who are easily replaced with other role players.
Taylor, Cockatoo, Stewart and Ratugolea are more significant outs. You could also add McCarthy as well. And Narkle. Their injury excuses are a beat up to hide their fear. Did you hear them makes excuses for Geelong in round 13 when Menzel, Henderson, Cockatoo, Taylor, S.Selwood, Ratogolea and Guthrie were all out from the Geelong team? No, they gloated like bloodthirsty supremacists.
Yep. Lock it inIs Stanley a confirmed out?
I'm not sure we do have the best defence in the league. I'd say Richmond do. Grimes I rate as the best defender in the game and I've never seen anyone leave their man and get to so many contests as Rance does. His ready of the game is without peer. Astbury is underrated. It's why blokes like Broad get kudos because he's surrounded by genuine stars. He wouldn't get a game as a key defender at any other club it's why I laugh when Richmond supporters throw around the preemptive injury excuse. We do have more outs but even still our talent as good if not better and we have more to play for.
We have the best defence in the league. The current best forward in the league. The best group of five individual midfielders in the league. Given the talent how are we not on top of the ladder and premiership favourites?
Where?Yep. Lock it in
