Preview Changes and pre match discussion - don't care who we are playing as long as Wardlaw is captain next week

Next week's team will be significantly improved with a few changes ...

Cooper Harvey comes in for Spicer. Spicer is fast but that's it. He's too small to stick a tackle and he's too panicked to do anything other than quickly give it to his closest team mate. I like him and I want him to make it. But he's no where near it at present. Cooper's had some good weeks in the VFL. Give him a shot.

Cam Z comes in for Drury. Drury's been given a taste of the big time. Now he goes back to the VFL to really improve on areas the coaches have pointed out to him.

TT comes in for Hall. No explanation required.

I want to bring Cunners back into the team, but not sure who he'd replace. Greenwood needs to stay.

Jeez, I can’t help but think we’re totally overlooking the value of Phoenix today. He provided that extra pressure cog that’s been absent all season. I’d be really surprised if he’s dropped. Why bring in another player to fulfil a role that’s already taken care of? If Cooper comes in, it has to be for Drury. Surely, it’s all about balance. If Cunners is to come back, Greenwood has to give way. If Zurhaar is ready to return, things get tricky. If Phoenix gets dropped, the Pies will waltz out of defence all day, just like in the previous five rounds.

For context, I am not saying can’t play ever, but with Greenwood in there and being the better of the 3, it doesn’t make sense to play all 3 when one of them plays outside the centre for the majority of the match. Philips and Powell in particular don’t seem to be able to play outside the midfield.

I saw Powell lining up at half back yesterday, and whatever they did yesterday seemed to work pretty well.

Minimal changes for me after that display. Zurhaar for Drury if his cheekbone is ok. Wouldn’t mind Thomas for Hall but despite a few moments yesterday it wouldn’t worry me to see Hall get another week in the team either.

Our backline works better with two defenders rather than three. We just can't have all of Corr, Logue and McKay trying to work together.

Have the two KPPs, then surround them with guys that can extract the footy from the contest. It's a no-brainer.
They’ll bring in Cameron next week after he plays sub tomorrow

So their key forwards will be cox, Johnson and mihocek

We don’t want Ziebell playing on one of the above

We need to pump games into the Logue, corr and McKay structure which we haven’t had much chance to do so far this it hasn’t clicked yet

Harvey, Cunners, Thomas and Laz all had very good vfl games. Z a likely return. Could argue Spicer for Harvey, but I liked Spicer’s pressure and speed.

Possible changes

Out: Drury, Hall, Spicer
Ins: Zurhaar, TT, Harvey
Yep. This is my consensus. Unless they want to rest Shiels I cant see any other changes.

It actually happened twice too. For a classy, agile player, he appears to be on rails when he’s defending. It’s very easy to wrong foot him. In fairness to him, I’ve watched the replay. The Swans kicked a behind as a result of his screw-up in the last.

A number of times during the game Hall just couldn't change direction quickly and would basically go straight past the ball/opponent. Seemed to have the turning circle of a lumbering ruckman which isn't a description that he'd normally get.
Thought he was ok overall without being great (good disposal efficiency - but pretty ordinary defensively at times).

He’s a weapon, at time. However, he doesn’t perform his role.

Agreed. Our forward pressure was the best it's been all year. Other than Drury, why would you remove the cogs that were working.

His redeeming quality is running hard from HB, something we don't have in spades. The list seems to have a lot of very similar players vying for spots but not enough vying for the ones we need. Difficult job getting the right 22 because of this.

Our young players like Ford and Spicer etc imo have all been told you will all get a block of games to show your wares . We will back you for most of the rest of the season . Make the most of it .

If I've heard one person say it, I've heard 100 people say it ... "Spicer was lively"

What does "lively" even mean?

I think it means he ran around a lot.

Spicer provided pressure in the way a fly provides pressure - mildly annoying, but easily swatted away.

He barely made a tackle stick
When he got the ball, which was rarely, he immediately gave it off to his nearest team-mate
He did run around a lot though, and at a speed that not many of our players are able to run around.

He was certainly lively.

I like Spicer, and I hope he makes it. But he's not even close to best 22 at this point.

I dunno man, i’d keep spice. I thought he did some good things, found space and made position really well.
Unfortunately he will get found out against Collingwood, is just to small against their backman and l think its time for Thomas to make a return at his expense.

Corr has to comeback in as well
