I didn't blame the back six for the loss, I agree our bigger issue is the lack of system in transition.

BUT this is the pre-match discussion so this is what can change in a week type of discussion, not something you can address existential problems, the meaning of life, etc.

The reality is, if we had 100% availability and nobody missed massive chunks of games due to injuries then Comben, Corr, Archer and Goater would be in the side and out would be Pink, Dawson, Hardeman and Fisher and FOS would spend more time up the ground. The only guys remaining in the back half mix would be Logue, Daniels and McDonald

To me, this is a fundamental difference between playing people out of necessity and playing people who you think are best for the job.

If you did the same exercise for the midfield and the forward line there wouldn't be much change, if any.

So when I say we have no back line, I am saying it is what it is and things aren't changing dramatically between last week's game and this game against Carlton.

I didn't say anywhere that I blame the defensive group for last weeks loss.

No one is putting Hardeman out of the side after the way he's played recently.

I wouldn’t call it confident per se. However, we all know that, in footy, very subtle improvements/changes can totally alter the outcome. I remember, back in Spider Burton’s time, we flogged Carlton by 120+ points in the final round of the season. Early the following season, we had to depend on a piece of Wellsy brilliance to drag ourselves over the line against them. The complete lack of anything remotely related to structure on GF was very evident. To me, that’s our improvement area.

That was one of my favourite times at the football ever. The North players were just toying with Carlton, flicking the ball around to give Spider a goal.

That was one of the first games I ever attended. Fun game for a kid to watch.

The stats and the eye test point to us being in this up to our eyeballs as we have improved and they seem to have gone backwards , however this has never made much difference and we struggle against this mob. I can’t trust us yet to not put in a stinker.
