Don't mind the Logue omission, but surprised at Corr. He made some mistakes last week, but has been pretty good in most games this year. I guess this is sending a message to the team, but I am not quite sure what the message is. Would be interesting to know the reasoning behind it.

With only Dawson and Comben as KPD's this game we won't see Comben swung forward, which is what I was hoping for. Comben has been struggling 1 on 1 defensively since he took the defensive role and has not improved significantly enough. Also, his kicking in defense is too risky and shows too much to the opposition. Unless the opposition is bombing it in and he can intercept mark it, he has not been able to win his match up.

I was hoping we'd take his contested marking to the forward line as we badly need it down there. Play him at CHF I reckon.

Larkey has had a horror 3-4 weeks and needs to lift. There is no movement in our forward line and it forces our half backs to bomb it up the line. They need to provide options up the ground and then work hard back. It is hard to watch our forwards running away from the ball carrier when we enter our forward 50. They should be leading on an angle to simplify the kick for the mids. The degree of difficulty on a 60+m kick with you team mate running with the flight is too high and reduces scoring chances. Back to basics please in our forward line. Another week of poor forward line performances and I think we might see one of JD, Bull or Souv dropped.

Na. Though the midfield will hopefully get reconfigured with Jy finally playing there to organise everyone and Powell being pushed to sub.

The tall defenders were dropped because we can't get the ball of our defense, and we have been getting smashed when the ball hits the ground. Last week Carlton kept bombing it to the hot spot, their talls and Comben created soft drops, and they kicked goal after goal: their small forwards kicked 12 between them. We may well give up more goals to Port's talls, but should reduce the damage that the smalls do and get more rebound.

1. It forces Comben to play man on man, which is far from his strength.

2. I actually really like Kal Dawson, but he doesn’t play overly tall. Strength is more his agility I would’ve thought (though obviously he has height). Leaving him with Comben (weak 1v1), Kal needs to step up where he’s probably more suited to third tall.

True on both points but I suspect Clarko and co have done this by design.

Test them without the other big guys to get the job done, with Arch and LMac in support instead.

If so I like it and it's an ideal game to try something different imo.

Yeah, it would be an ideal way to show him that the great mids don't just do the showy stuff, they work hard too. He'd get a bath in this game as he is so defensively poor at the moment, but agreed, it would be a great learning opportunity.

Honestly, that is why I was thinking of FoS for the role. He is already OK defensively, could be better but has shown a bit. Has size and is a chance of coming out on top on the day, plus get some learnings for the future. Would also be interested to see him get some CBAs against a quality midfield and see how he copes.

McKercher has been poor all year but as a sub late in the 3rd - he could be used as a tactical weapon.
