Logue and Daniel just don't belong. Their contributions are nett negative. Compare them to FOS and Hardiman who are so much better and are each only first year players.

Chom has to go back into defence (although he was carrying a pillow under his jumper so he probably should be going in for surgery to be ready for pre-season).

I noticed people saying that Konstanty is a pressure forward but I wonder if the team would be more capable with RHJ who seems to be more capable of producing score involvements.

Parker might be ok against St Kilda but he is below par against good teams.
RHJ won't be a pressure forward at AFL level, at least not with his current physical assets. I'm all for trying something with shuffling Konstanty (who I think has mostly been as advertised) but it would be Payne that would be the call.

This is it yeah. We can't keep going in with the same midfield mix and expecting this problem to resolve with a patchwork forward / backline.

We can't pressure.
We can't keep the ball.
We can't generate i50's.
We can't prevent i50's.

There are too many mids in there that are walk up starts but don't perform at a level that commands that. We need to sacrifice a couple of sacred cows - whether to the VFL or out of the centre square I don't really care.

Our midfield win clearances to win games. It is completely unrealistic to expect that to happen every single game. Moreover, it is not acceptable for them to concede the game whenever this isn't going their way. I genuinely think we need to make a statement there instead of blaming limited players filling roles that they shouldn't even be expected to fill at this stage of their careers.

play Colby and FOS in there for a start.

JK needs a spell, and Payne has become a more versatile player as he has also been running through the middle. Has a lot of mad bastard about him too.

What I would like to see and what it will be probably wildly different.

What could happen:
Out:
JK, Dawson, Moose
In: Payne, Wardlaw, Larkey

Logue and Daniel should be dropped. Make a fn statement with those two at least.

I'd love to see Brayden in for Daniel, Riley can do the kick ins and wax with him. How good would it be to have 2 cannons capable of 80m plays out to the wing, and It's literally not possible to be defensively worse than Daniel.

Payne in for RHJ or JK.

Wardlaw in for someone, don't care who.

But who am I kidding... **** all significant changes so expect more of the same.

100pct this......AND nothing against Konstanty, I'm a fan, but I'd like to see him go back to VFL level and play around the ground to see if he can become more versatile than an inside 50 pressure guy who occasionally hits the scoreboard. Payne seems to have done that at VFL level, but gee I'd like to see if Konstanty could bring his tackling pressure to the midfield.
While everyone was waxing lyrical about Jeremy Cameron, Bailey Smith, and Holmes in last nights game, it all started in the middle with Atkins who created so much of their midfield ascendancy, shutting down LDU, tackling, working hard in close, and distributing to Smith et al.

Eddie ford has to be a chance as another option to replace Caleb Daniel

Yep am a fan of JK too, but he's had a solid year ... just needs a few games to get a bit more of the ball. As you say, gaining some game time, confidence and versatility will only benefit him. LDU is on a hiding to nothing, and we have no runners of the ilk of Smith et al ...

I mean a team only needs to do three things to beat us.

  • spread hard
  • maintain width
  • get the ball to the outside as often and quickly as possible.

Lyon will have them drilled well enough to do that.

I don’t doubt we’ll get a response of some description from our lot but we’ve seen this film before. It won’t be enough, we don’t have it in us.
