Preview Changes and Preview vs. Port

Early days I'd go for confining like:

Out: Spargo (omitted/rest), Pedersen (omitted - I'm sorry Pedo but you weren't really up to scratch. Might escape omission), Melksham (been a bit underdone last couple weeks) and Vince (omitted).

In: 1 × Baker/Hunt/Bugg, 1 × Weideman/T. Smith, Garlett and Tyson.

Bugg/Hunt if we want to run with experience. Baker probably more of a chance of a debut against a STK or similar team. But the depth boys have another week to prove their worth for a chance against Port.

I don’t mind those changes. Although it doesn’t address the need for pace. However releasing smith to a flank isn’t a bad move. I’d also be looking at giving Spargo a spell in the VFL and bring Garlett in.

The thing us, I don't necessarily think pace is a problem. Yeah, today hurt, but on today I think the Pies are the quickest leg-speed team in the league. And pace wouldn't have broken their pressure around the ball, which was just phenomenal.

I think Smith stays. Spargs is interesting but someone needs to step up and really show he isn't in the 22. I also wouldn't be averse to bringing in Tyson purely to create flexibility in the guts.

We aren't dropping Melksham for being 'underdone' unless he aggravated something today, the players have 12 days before they play again. Agree with Spargo/Pedersen, don't see them dropping Vince though.

J Smith should be staying in. The poor bastard had to play his first game of the year and try to settle in against a swift and decisive side that obliterated our midfield. Also had to do it in front of 85k people and with an opposition, 7ft monstrosity playing out of his skin.

He made a few bad mistakes but he also put in some great defensive efforts and laid a couple of ripping tackles.

Yeah I liked Smith, he was excellent early on when we were getting pantsed as well

Lever's disposal was a hot mess for the first 6 rounds, surely we can cut this kid some slack? there's obviously something there to work with

We don’t need to make wholesale changes, but I do think Tyson needs to come in and play in the middle (not the wing) to help with our clearneces. And this would be at the expense of one of our flankers.

Spargo was one of the players the coils walk of yesterday with his head up, played a really good second quarter and ran hard all day.

Smith was pretty solid for his first game, aside from a couple of iffy disposals. He actually defended well on cox in the last quarter. Took some nice grabs.

Pedo - prepared to give him another chance, took some nice grabs but a couple
of ordinary kicks cost us.

I think we drop Pedo and bring back Smith, alternatively bring in Keilty as he is Caseys best big defender

Baker is raw but could be useful and will bring speed and effort, not sure he is good enough by foot

I doubt that Petty is ready

Overall I think we need to keep developing and trying new players especially down back and if we can squeeze out Vince or Lewis with a new player then it will be a good move for the future as not convinced that both are good long term

I thought our biggest issue on Monday was Collingwoods intensity around the stoppages and contests, as well as their additional numbers and run on the outside of the stoppages and contests.

This made it look like we have structural issues up forward - because we weren’t getting any quality football into the 50 and weren’t able to press our midfield up and lock it in like we have been doing.

Throw in Cox taking a few big grabs up forward and we were done.

I’d go with giving Vince a break for Tyson, and asking Brayshaw, ANB, Jones and Harmes to get busier on the outside.

I certainly wouldn’t endorse significant change to a side that’s won 6 out of 7.
