In the mix

Noah Answerth is no longer on the Lions' list after two weeks in concussion protocols and just needs to get through Thursday's main session without a hiccup to regain his spot in the 23 to face Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday. With Zorko ruled out, it's perfect timing for Answerth's return to slot nicely into Chris Fagan’s backline. Following three straight wins, it's hard to see Fagan making any other changes, although Sam Marshall, Shadeau Brain and Will McLachlan have been in excellent form at the lower level. - Michael Whiting

Dees losing 2 and a few out now overall.

They are dangerous but lack a bit of depth so we won't have any excuses. They did seem too tall and slow in the forward line though so might not lose too much with the milkshake out.

Hope they give Answerth another week. I like the idea of Wilmot on Kozi anyway when he is forward.

I'd give Answerth another week. But if we play him you'd have to presume it's all fine.

The Dees have some good players out. They'll be stung by last week but they just don't have the firepower if we turn up.

We may have been making sure Answerth was good to go for this one with Kozzie. He wasn’t required against Norf.
Probably. I just hate those ones to the back of the head . Had one myself and it was gruesome. He was completely out to it when we carted him off.

There's no need for us to take risks so if he plays it's obviously a full recovery . Wilmot could go Kozzie imo. Totally different player to Answerth but it'd be a fascinating match up.

Surely they could have sent an AFL.com.au intern out there on a field trip… or perhaps they did and that’s the reason there was 1 “journo” present.
Apparently the chap (Roger) was from AAP. So even the AFL couldn't be bothered.

We have, without a shadow of doubt, the best Recruiting Manager in the AFL in Steve Conole. It is amazing to think that having won ‘back to back’ Premierships, we were able to add Oscar Allen and Sam Draper to our list. Already they have made a massive impact to our team in terms of on field flexibility and capacity. Rather than tapering off after three Grand Finals in a row and two Premierships, we actually look significantly stronger this year. Credit also has to go to Chris Fagan and the players, because the culture that has been developed at Brisbane is second to none. I have never, even during the 2001-2003 era, felt more bullish about the Lions. We are privileged to be part of what is unfolding in 2026 and there is no reason to assume that the rest of the decade is going to be any different from the last two seasons. It is possible that we are only going to become more dominant.

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I don't think we should be allowing people to fly kick players in the head. I know hangers are a part of the game, but a lot of things were that we decided weren't worth having brain injuries for.

And besides, you can still jump on someone's back or even shoulders, but how is a knee to the head more acceptable than a fist?

Agreed. Personally; I’d be ok if we’re going down the path of being accountable to opponents if whatever you do on the field is reckless, which let’s be honest, some of the high flying marking attempts are; that if you concuss someone, like Tiaru (sp?) did, that you get a weeks suspension too. That way, no one’s saying don’t fly for your marks or go for a screamer, but if you, and deliver a knee like Noah copped; you’re accountable for that action. No one’s saying there’s malice but you’ve taken a guy out in the process which is unfair yes and now you serve the week that that concussed player must sit out.

Surprised it hasn’t gone this way already.

Essentially the same as tackling - you can still do it, but the onus is now on you to protect your opponents head.

Interesting discussion, with some very good points.
I wonder when the mainstream media will start pushing for this.
Once a big Victorian club loses a start player for a final?

I'm actually surprised at the restraint they have shown after what happened to Weitering. It's coming tho, no doubt about it.
