I was worried losing Linc and Robbo would be losing too much 'hardness' out of the team.

Robbo might be required to play a bit more forward and rotate onto the footy to try and show he still has some value as a 30 year old in this team.

Yeah I think he's already lost his spot on the wing to Bailey. Robbo will need to have an impact up forward if he's going to stay best 22. An in form Robbo would be huge for us heading into finals so hopefully he can find that form.

I wonder if Tom Berry is a chance to replace McCarthy in an attempt to keep the defensive pressure up to McCarthy levels.

Probably the front runner. We all just want to see Coleman.

Maybe with our goal kicking issues worsening we'll go for a better finisher
I would love to see Coleman.
But I do see the value in Berry as Lincs replacement.

Christensen is one of the better finishers at the club IMO, however, as he hasn’t been named an emergency once this year, perhaps that is unlikely despite Fullarton coming from nowhere and being selected.

His pressure was high but he didn't really do much else. Only very few touches and not sure he kicked a single goal - I remember a few misses. And from memory his stats in the Neafl last year were consistently low

Fullarton is a cat B rookie though so he needed elevating. Not much use as a backup in case of a last minute injury

This 12 day break is a great opportunity for some of the players to get a couple of days away from the club, and relax a little.

Maybe the kicking yips are just because some of them are wound up a bit tight.

Hopefully we see some instagram pics of players surfing or golfing over the next few days.

Are they actually allowed to?
With the current restrictions the AFL have on all players from all Clubs?

Hm. Not sure. That would suck.

I was really liking McCarthy's body of work this season, some really good pressure, good assists for goals and a good mix of crumbing/speccies. I think we're still wanting more sustained presence with more goals, but he brings a lot more stability and kicking efficiency than others.

I think the Big O will be the best off for the bye. I was impressed at how he battled it out for the fatigue he obviously had.

Lets see who plays well in the inter-club!

Your right, Lacie Neale is away with his wife at the beach so that might be an indication they have a few days off, although Fagan did say in the expresser after the Saints they would probably have a scratch match this week and get in a good block of training.

If Coleman comes in and play's well against the Magpies it is super exciting for us and a huge endorsement for our internal development of players. Starcevich, Fullarton and Coleman all playing seniors and performing after being core pieces of our NEAFL side last year would be huge.
Its a glowing endorsement of our Academy too.

Andrews and Hipwood are regulars, Payne and Ballenden have debuted this year, Fullarton last week and potentially Coleman in the coming weeks.

What may have been a throw away line by one our officials that we hope to have a third of a list coming threw from the Lions Academy, it seems quite realistic that one day it may be the case.

I know there are a lot of issues and politics associated with the Academy that isn't necessarily public knowledge, however, it is great that we are getting more than our fair share of players from the Academy, not to mention other Academy players getting picked up elsewhere e.g. the two boys drafted to Richmond last year.

Fullarton was playing for the Bullets not part of the Academy?

He was previously part of the Lions Academy:

Tom Fullarton’s first full season as a professional football player in 2019 demonstrated his potential as a forward for the Lions.

Fullarton was recruited as a Category B Rookie from the Brisbane Bullets midway through the 2018 season.

Swapping a promising NBL career for Aussie Rules, standing 200cm tall, Fullarton is an exciting prospect who can play in a variety of positions and is very agile for his size. Fullarton was previously part of the Lions Academy.

The 200cm forward was part of the Lions’ academy as a teenager but began to focus on basketball after being chosen to captain the Australian Under 17 world cup squad.

He caught the eye of Australian coach Andre Lemanis who lured him to the Brisbane Bullets for the 2017-18 season. However his first love was always footy and when the Lions came calling midway through the 2018 AFL season, he agreed to join as a Category B rookie.
