I really like James Madden however I must be missing something because the match committee obviously don't, I would have him in the team ahead of Froggy Lester in a heartbeat.Looking forward to the match. Both teams looking really good. Interested to see how Payne plays on Curnow or McKay.
Out: Zorko, Rich, Lester
In: Dev, Prior/Madden, Joyce
I feel like Madden's speed defensively could cause a lot of problems for Carlton.

Payne to Curnow
Fagan loves his on field coaches (Hodge, Birchall and now Gunston) and personally think our team can keep improving a lot from his IQ. But I dont think we look better with him playing. He furthers our issues with defensive pressure, isnt quick and doesn't offer a contested marking option.
He was concussed in ressie game but doubt he would've been selected anywayIs he injured?
Prior in for Rich
He played well v Pies in Riches absence.
Blues tall forwards are Curnow (9 goals), McKay (2g) & Silvagni (3g) & (194cm).
I think Lester holds his spot as he played his usual solid game but is much smarter than Joyce.
Also, with Rich out i think one change in defense is enough for this week.
Zorko is harder, need to think about that one. Below in A-Z order.
Bolded OOC this year. Of the OOC players only Dev has played AFL this year. Three games, two as sub. The other game only 6 disposals with 72% TOG.
Ah Chee, Answerth, Cockatoo, Lyons, Mathieson, Robertson, Sharp, Tunstill.
Looking forward to the match. Both teams looking really good. Interested to see how Payne plays on Curnow or McKay.

I'm thinking Madden might get his chance if Linc doesn't get up. Between Madden and Wilmot, we would have the flexibility to send one to defense and send the other to be defensive forward on Saad. Wilmot has been kicking goals too so he won't be out of place whether its in forward line, wing or defense. Madden would have the pace to cover Saad and do a job in defense if needed. Lot of options to mix and match for us this time.
If Linc is out, we'll play a forward not a defender. I like Jimmy, but he'd be a much bigger chance of replacing Rich than Linc.
Minus the Fort and Gunston bit.Forced changes:
Rich > Prior. Best coverage in defensive and offensive running from the back line. Good flexibility to cover wing as well
Zorko > Dev. Been playing a similar role quite well in forward and mid. One of the few players that can deliver pressure in both areas.
Structural change:
Lester > Joyce. Lester was fine and good to make sure he is fit to go, but I think we want the extra height against Carlton
Should happen but wont:
Gunston > Fort. Fort i think offers more in the ruck and the strong marking presence. He and Oscar swap well and offer slightly different things.

Madden would not be able to play that 3rd tall role that Lester is playing. If Madden came into the side it would have to be for one of our running defenders like Coleman or McKenna.I really like James Madden however I must be missing something because the match committee obviously don't, I would have him in the team ahead of Froggy Lester in a heartbeat.
Is there a small forward lighting up the 2s at the moment? I'd love to have Lohmann in if he's ready but based on what I read he's not hit form in reserves.
Fagan might prefer to play Answerth in that role, I'd like see Madden given an opportunity to tag.
I think he could, Madden is only 4cm shorter than Lester and has a better leap and closing speed, IMO he would do just as good a job on 3rd tall types.Madden would not be able to play that 3rd tall role that Lester is playing. Matho has been our best on baller in the twos by a country mile. I cannot see why no one in this thread, up to now, has mentioned him.
I reckon his combined disposal count so far this season would be twice anyone so far mentioned to take Zorko's spot.
I assume people do not watch the reserves games.
Sometimes players just lift in seniors, so wouldn't be against giving Lohmann a chance. Is there a small forward lighting up the 2s at the moment? I'd love to have Lohmann in if he's ready but based on what I read he's not hit form in reserves.

If either Payne or Andrews gets toweled up i doubt Joyce will be our saviour. The problem with Lester holding his spot - if one of Payne or Andrews is getting toweled up, it limits our ability to rotate another tall to them. I don't think Lester will be able to take on either of these 2 talls with only his smarts. Lester was good for Freo game with their lack of forward options, against Carlton we need Joyce to be brought back in.
Joyce is an option for McKay or Curnow. I think Lester is just a bit too small. If either Payne or Andrews gets toweled up i doubt Joyce will be our saviour.
Joyce 194cm 95kg, Lester 192cm 85kg so Joyce is much heavier.
Apart from Joyce being heavier i think Lester offers the team more in other arears than Joyce.
Should the club decide on Joyce for this game i am fine with that. Just shows we are filling holes with our 3rd KPD role.
Joyce was rubbish against GWS, so why presume he will be good against Carlton. Why drop an in form player for an out of form player? As for the need for a ‘bigger player’ - Joyce is 2 or 3 centimetres taller. Not a lot there. If I flipped the people bagging Lester the bird, it is less than the distance from my knuckle to the tip of my finger. Lester has superior athleticism and he showed his intentions as a defender yesterday - PUNCH and SPOIL. Dropping Lester for Joyce would be madness. The problem with Lester holding his spot - if one of Payne or Andrews is getting toweled up, it limits our ability to rotate another tall to them. Joyce has been decent defensively I reckon. In his 5 games he's had 10 intercept marks, ~5 intercept disposals/game and has only lost 1 of 9 contested one on ones.
