If we just role with Naughty / JOD or Naughty / Khamis up forward, I wonder if we might be cheeky and look at Kennedy as the backup ruck instead of moving one of our two KPF's out of the forward line? The Giants only use Riccardi or Himmelberg as 2nd rucks so nothing too serious there, and would give us the extra midfielder at the contest and around the ground which Bevo loves.

Yeah I'm not too worried about second ruck. Khamis can jump at it, and Kennedy and Freijah can body it. All we really need to do is make it a 50-50

Seems like he’ll be debuting sooner rather than later if he can keep VFL form

Buku is not big enough to be either a KPD or KPF nor is he quick enough to play anywhere else. Harsh, but nothing is going to change that.

Khamis does understand our structures and has the mobility to cover ground and knows how to anticipate/read play that some of our bigger guys don't.

His ability to position himself to actually win the ball (getting pushed under it in defence, not timing his leads up forward etc.) is obviously not great, but I can see why wanting a team-oriented defence and wanting to trust players to have the athleticism to cover for you as your push up, pressure, run off your man, Khamis can work in that system.

Sort of agree, but gee that's a narrow path to longevity in the AFL.
He's mobile (ie not slow) but at the same time he's not agile. Can't work through traffic and not great at even sidestepping a single opponent let alone several at once. Reads the flight of the ball well but when the ball comes to ground he is often found out.

Agree with this, his biggest problems with us pre-Carlton was he was an almost man. Got hands to it but would juggle a mark and lose the ball or when he did get it the kick would be offline. Seemed like those trio of skills play into that.

Personally it feels like after his growth at Carlton it would play out different if tested forward. As a fan of his would have hoped for the switch considering how much Bevo favours dual position players. I'd really like to see the return of the genuine swingman to the game. I feel like JOD and Buku have this capability also.

It might be a tough call on Jones but the reasonings have been explained in detail and seems to relate to selection integrity. Wishing Buss a great debut and that it's breeds more competition for the limited positions we have available.

There's method to the madness though. Say it's Khamis and Naughton as the forwards tomorrow. If Khamis goes into the ruck, then it's only Naughton forward to get double teamed by Taylor and Himmelberg and we will struggle to bring anything to ground. While Khamis won't really provide much in the ruck in regards to hitouts or clearances.

If we ruck Kennedy when English needs a break, we keep two talls forward at all times and Kennedy gives us an extra midfielder in ruck contests when the ball comes to ground and provides more around the ground than Buku would.

JOD probably more competitive in the ruck than Buku would be, but still would really give us much of an advantage there, while also leaving us short forward when he is needed to ruck.
