Assuming he gets the nod this is possibly Lewis Young's most important game of his career. He has the chance to make the second tall defender his own if he fails then it goes to Cordy who is ok but undersized. I would play him on Hipwood.

I would like to think he would get a good block of games to show what 4 years on our list has got us.

Revenge for what? Paying the bloke for years to sit on the sidelines because he's always injured and then facilitating a trade to another club when he decided he wanted a fresh start?
Its more like revenge for us with him wasting our time for 3 years and then when he finally gets fit he wants to piss off to another club.

He’s hasn’t been exactly fit has only played 12 games in the 3 years since he has been at the lions
He was fit when he left but he broke down again during pre season and has struggled since. He's just got one of those bodies that continually breaks down. Has talent but if he can't string a decent run together this year I reckon he will be gone. Our club did everything for him when he was injured and he was in our best 22 when fit so it was a bit of a slap in the face when he decided to leave.

A merger of North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs has always made sense to me.
Renamed Footscray or West Melbourne Kangaroos - Home Jumper Bulldogs, Away Jumper North, demand 11 home games at Dome / MCG
Future Secured - mega club - make it so
If I ever see you post here again I’m going to be *in ropable

Berry apparently the man to take Bont on man on man.

2 things I have to say

1- Legitimately who the f@ck is Berry?
2- No really who is he?

I know a few berries

There is a blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, loganberry and a Chuck Berry. The lions have 2 Berry's Jarrod and Tom maybe the plan to play both on the Bont to have a chance of beating him.

I don’t think it's controversial to suggest that a forward line featuring Daniher, Hipwood, Charlie Cameron, and Zorko will be a good test for a side who historically hasn't defended well...

Fair enough - we all got an opinion.
Plays in the key post, rarely gets goals kicked on him and is probably more suited to a 3rd tall intercept role, but we haven’t got another tall stopper that is better than him. Is brave, durable and a good decision maker with reasonable skills.

You validate the point of me suggesting all of us wanting 23 superstar players each week - we all want that but it’s not possible to fit them all in. If we had Andrews, Moore, Weitering, McGovern we would be almost unbeatable, but these blokes are on 800 - 900k and impossible to recruit.

Our list is as good or better than anyone, possibly Port and Richmond aside. We have great midfield depth and forward line depth surprisingly. Whilst our backline is not our strength, I don’t see it as a weakness. I am happy with Keith, just need Gardner fit again and Lewy Young or Cordy to show something.
I agree it's unrealistic to think we can recruit/develop someone of that standard within the next couple of years given salary cap constraints, I just think that as good as our midfield is, our backline is a significant enough weakness to hamstring our premiership ambitions in the short term. We have great half back flankers and intercept markers, but when the ball comes in quickly enough to isolate forwards one-out (which the rule changes are designed to encourage), we can and will get scored against heavily by the likes of Daniher/Hipwood, Kennedy/Darling, Lynch/Riewoldt, Hawkins, Dixon. If you were to break down our list into A/B/C grade etc we'd probably stack up well against Richmond, Port or anyone else, but I don't think any of the other contenders are as unbalanced as us with the vast majority of our A-graders playing primarily on ball.

I posted in another thread that I thought the main difference between our 2016 side and now is that while in both cases our midfield is the strongest line and there are a lot of unheralded names forward and back, the 2016 versions were all competitive beasts who excelled one on one, so even when our zone defence broke down the likes of Morris, Boyd, Biggs, Hamling could often bail us out. Picken, Smith and Dickson were also good to scrap a goal out of nothing without clean ball movement. I have less faith in the current team in that regard.

Hope they don’t end up in a jam, har har

Brisbane supporters are confident that the Lions will win with their quote, 'elite' forward line. Hopefully our boys will put a stop to that. Look forward to a classic game of footy. Go dogs.

Compared to the Norf forward line of Zuhaar, Turner, Stephenson you beat by 21 goals then yes the Lions forward line of Daniher, Cameron and Hipwood is elite ;)

Our issue won’t be kicking goals, it’ll be stopping your elite mids getting first use of the pill and getting it down forward quickly - we have a slow back line.

How’s Oscar looking? Massively important for you guys this week

No.... but we are about to win the ruck battle for the first time in 90 games under Bevo.

This means the Lions will likely set up defensively from the stoppage, and we can drop a man back to protect the 45 kick into the corridor. That means it will take the lions one extra possession to get the ball into their F50, giving our defence more time to set up.

From someone who is happy to call a spud a spud, do us all a favor and use your brain before reactively making statements like that.

Have you been following Jong’s form in the VFL? From all accounts (including the coaches) he’s knocking down the door. Check out his three goals below that went along with being the best mid on the ground Friday.

nice skill to have being able to bang a goal from 50m reliably, particularly when your team plays a hard F50 press.

I see Jong and Wally being similar players for us, potentially handy medium forwards who could pinch hit as mids but have many players ahead of them in the midfield. The conundrum is - being essentially squeezed out of the midfield, are they good enough in a forward role to beat out specialist forwards? It seems the answer is no.

McNeil needs a stint in the AFL. There is no avoiding it - and it would be counter-productive on multiple levels for Bev to not make the shift.
His performance against a bumbling North, given our depth, is below standard. The entire playing list would be bewildered by his retention and justified frustration will brew disharmony.

The candidates for Inclusion: Cavarra, Wallis, West, Jong, JUH,

Changes
Out: Gardner (inj) McNeil (omitted)
In: Young/Cordy, West/Wallis/Cavarra
