I thought Frederick was poor enough v the bulldogs actually. He definitely has an issue with the physical contested side of the game and is never going to be a guy that puts his head over the ball in the same manner that the likes of Treacy and Switta do.We want to see Frederick kick two in the first and we will know GC are playing too loose to contain Freo.
But it was even noticed by the media - Kane Cornes highlighted it on agenda setters last week and rightly said if you are pulling out of contests finals footy won’t come easy for you.
However for me Frederick is dangerous enough on the lead and in broken play, and accurate enough from set shots that you just carry that contested ball weakness and hope it’s the kind of game that he can get on the end of 2 or 3 and punish the opposition.
As we saw last night though tight finals are just brutal in terms of opposition pressure and usually the toughest and hardest team at the contest wins.
I thought Degoey gave the prototype midfield finals display last night. Not a single fumble all night. Ferocious attack on the ball. Clean and decisive with every possession. I’m no fan of the guy at all but he was outstanding.
If we can get something like that from Andy Brayshaw and Caleb Serong tomorrow I don’t think we are losing.
