Does anyway really believe that Maxwell is a viable bowling option in India?

Given he's replacing Watson, who is currently holding down top 4, I can't see the logic to be honest. Not sure what batsman you'd pick on current form, but Maxwell, for mine, is an odd selection.

If he had made those not outs then sure, but he hasn't. Also, his last two FC games he has come in at 5. He's averaged 13 in that time. Two ducks and a 39. Stellar form.

Maxwell has preformed well with the bat in the games against south Africa and sri lanka with a 60 and 90 odd batting in the middle order so he has preformed well when given a chance at the higher level. when you consider most the times he bats he gets starts, but is good at throwing his wicket away

Agreed, which makes his weak mentality all the more frustrating. Seems to lose his head and play a lot of rash strokes when in fact he's a better player than that.

Johnson isn't good enough to bat at 7.

If Gilly was there at 6 then yeah u could consider it. Hell even if Paine was batting at six but Wade just can't be trusted YET. He will get there.

Just play David Hussey at four and be done with it

Maxwell is a much better bowler than a lot of people seem to realise. Anyone suggesting he is just a part timer hasn't seen much Shield cricket. I'm suprised he doesn't bowl more as I see him more dangerous than Holland. His bowling is suited to the longer form as he tosses them up and gets good flight.

Anyone suggesting Henriques are kidding themselves. What message are we sending if we pick someone on a couple of games form. He has a FC average of 29 FFS.

Seems to me that Maxwell has taken over from Steve Smith as the x-factor guy with potential who has become a love child of the selectors before his performances warrant it.

Don't see why Watson has to be replaced with an all-rounder, Clarke and Warner can provide some decent back up spin options.

I'd be playing Khawaja.

Maxwell has a higher batting average and lower bowling average, better bowling SR and ER than Cam White, and only has 2 not outs across his 24 innings so that hardly boosts his average. Yes, he is an aggressive batsman, but have you actually seen him play at FC level?

Those in the system say that he is one of Australia's most talented players. The selectors and coaches absolutely love the guy and think he is unbelievable. But when he plays, plays with that 'don't give a **** attitude' and just doesn't seem to show much interest out on the field at times.

I agree, he needs to turn more 50's into hundreds which will hopefully happen now he has been moved up the order (he has played mostly at7 or 8). He definately hasn't reach his full potential yet but this is the ideal game to blood him. He will play a lot of test cricket for Australia IMO.

Did you see any of my posts about Jackson Bird prior to him being selected? I was one of the main people advocating for him to be in the team.

If he hasn't reached his full potential, why the hell is he playing for Australia then. This isn't a stepping stone to help him, this is the big time. He stepped up in Victoria in the order and has squandered his chances so far making 39 runs in 3 innings. His bowling has picked him up tailenders only.. How does that make him good enough to take on the rest of the world if he can't even take on Australian batsmen and bowlers? This is what drives me insane about the selectors. They are so ****ing inconsistent. One minute you have to have made 10000 runs to get a chance, the next you could have made 20 but if you have potential you're getting a baggy green before you make a solid score.

His bowling is no better than Warners. Infact Warner is a more dangerous bowler than Maxwell who is a darter like Doherty. He hasn't reached his full potential, but he is also not good enough to be representing Australia, that is a fact.

There are also other options out there like the consistently overlooked Luke Butterworth, James Faulkner, Henriques and Coulter-Nile. Of those 4, Butterworth is easily the best and has proven that over many years.

Well the fact that you just said Maxwell is a darter proves you haven't seen much of him. He tosses the ball up and gets good flight for an offie, that's the best thing about his bowling. Warner is a part timer and nothing more.

No, in Perth he proved he can throw the bat then stupidly get out while the number 9 was still at the crease with him, he could have gone on to make a much higher score and we would have had a better chance of saving that match.

As for Starc, he is better than Johnson in that he can swing it, but that still doesn't make him a test calibre bowler.. Remember it was Sri Lanka he cleaned up, not England, not South Africa (yes he took 6 there, but only after getting belted for a day and took the tail end).

Warner has shown occasions of maturity sure, but he has shown more weak spots than maturity in his game.
