Well the fact that you just said Maxwell is a darter proves you haven't seen much of him. He tosses the ball up and gets good flight for an offie, that's the best thing about his bowling. Warner is a part timer and nothing more.
I've seen enough of him to know that he doesn't turn it enough, nor does he toss it up enough. He bowls darts currently, hence why he only takes tail end wickets. You are delusional.

Nar mate, your wrong. Throws a few darts in the one day game maybe. Even Kerry O'Keefe has given him a few wraps for the way he bowls. Although usually finishes up with "but he's from Victoria, (insert Mutley laugh)".

It's interesting that all the Victorian's have got themselves a hard on over maxwell's selection but I don't think we'll see much of a difference between him and a guy like Smith.

Has done reasonably well for himself... Has probably made a case as the next bastmen off the rank anyway, provided he is batting at 6.

The main thing I wanted to test out in this test is Clarke batting at 4 and that is guaranteed to happen now regardless, unless Maxwell bats up the top of the order which would be a pretty massive call.

I have a feeling that Clarke may not play in Sydney. With Watson out, we are spared the spectre of Shane Watson, Australian Captain, it is a dead rubber against a team that has been physically and mentally destroyed, it would give Khawaja an outing against the red ball, and quite frankly with India and England coming up we have bigger fish to fry than Sri Lanka. Hussey could stand in quite easily for one Test, and Clarke would get the chance to ensure that he is properly healed.

yeah i wouldn't be opposed to clarke sitting the game out all together. watson missing won't have a bearing on him or the selectors decision as to whether that should happen. they clearly think he's suitable for the vice captain role.

I remember the last time a Victorian T20 slogger was picked as the second spinner for an India tour. That ended well.

I hate when this line gets trundled out.

Sure, it was a poor selection. But White outbowled his direct opponent Kumble by a country mile that series.

Quiney, Hastings and now Maxwell? Haven't the selectors already gifted enough Bushranger spuds a Baggygreen this summer :D
its a bit hard when your given 1 to 2 tests to prove your self, players like beer, north marsh, smith, khawaja, hughes have had several tests and turned out duds specialy the 3 names from the west:D

Not hard to out bowl your opponent when he plays 2 games versus your 4... and why was his direct opponent Kumble and not Harby or Mishra?

Because Kumble and White are basically the exact same type of bowler? Fast skiddy leggies who barely turn it. :p

Don't see why we need an all-rounder. Given Sri Lanka's injuries, general shitness and having wrapped up the series, I don't see a problem with Johnson at 7. It's not like it's a permanent move.

well it helps when you make a ton in your debut test
yeah but doesnt that make it worse, where are they now? struggling to hold their spots in a state team & cricket in general in the state is at a big low point

North made 5 Test 100s against good opposition FFS. People should stop writing off his career as a complete dud.

You can't give a person 2 games against the best side in the world before discarding them. He deserves another go, as far as I'm concerned. Another pair of scores below 10; and you can drop with a far less guilty conscience.

However, Maxwell if not Quiney. Bored of Khawaja making 20 runs in 2 hours and losing his head.

Please. A pair at Adelaide is unforgivable, and it's not as though he was a rookie coming in. Why do we owe Quiney anything? He had his chance and he blew it.

Graham Gooch would be grateful (as would English cricket fans) that the English selectors didn't write him off after making a pair on debut.

What makes Quiney's treatment worse is that John Inverarity openly admitted Quiney was thrown to the wolves to protect Hughes. I guess when it comes to the Ashes series x 2 in the next 12 months, Hughes will have to be protected again, because the Poms would be rubbing their hands at the prospect of bowling to him.

Graham Yallop was heavily criticised for being protected by Kim Hughes during an Ashes Test, yet it is okay to protect Hughes from even participating against the #1 team in the world. This says a lot about Hughes' credibility (or lack thereof) as a Test cricketer.

Please. Gooch debuted as a 22 year old in England against an attack that contained Lillee, Thomson and the underrated Walker.

Quiney made a pair as a 30 year old on one of the flattest decks in the world and was dismissed by Morne Morkel and Rory Kleinveldt.

Quiney was still a rookie in international terms & facing the best bowling attack in the world, whilst Hughes was running around in domestic cricket because he wasn't considered good enough to face the best bowling attack in the world.

Some posters are complaining about who has been given a baggy-green in recent times, yet seem happy to give one to a player who has been deemed by the selectors to be not competent enough to face the best bowling attack in the world. Hypocrisy is alive & well.

And the most important thing is that he got dismissed in all 3 innings by a weakness of his - a desire to make contact with every ball when he first gets to the crease

hastings should have never been given a test. easily the worst quick bowler we've trotted out in 10 years... especially frustrating with so many good quick bowlers floating around.

and not hyperbole. look at the list. he stands out like a beacon amongst that lot, and his figures reflect that.

i was a fan of the quiney selection. i thought it was rewarded a good 12-18 months and a hard slog of a career. but he was only ever going to get a handful of tests to prove himself, and was not a chance in hell of being retained after 9 runs in 3 innings.
