Smith's last 100 FC overs (dates back to March 2014) - 47.27 average, 54.55 strike rate, 5.20 economy rate.

Just gift-wraps runs to the opposition, with the vague hope that they'll mis-hit one when slogging him being the only upside.

Never thought Smithy would tie an end down. Better strike rate than Kumble and Harbajahn, and comparable to Warne's!

Just reckon he'd be good for 10-15 overs and a wicket or two a game.

Admittedly, Smith has chronically underdeveloped his bowling (remembering he started as a bowling all rounder) but is also underbowled IMO. Used to love watching part time wristies like Kat and Bevo bowl too.

Even ordinary wristies look dangerous and can take wickets. But yeah they can also leak runs.

Be nice if the media just asked boof the right questions here for once and that is why did you pick marsh at 6 if smith wasn't going to bowl him? And why do we then need to bring in another allrounder at 6 if the skipper won't bowl him either?

of all the rubbish allrounder candidates floating around marsh still looked the most likely to take test wickets but if smith doesn't even rate him wtf are we picking them for?
1) They didn't think the pitches would have so much turn, games finish quite quickly.

2) They didn't think the spinners would both have career best games and be so good.

Remember no one could get India out, which of course means they couldn't possibly win.

Number of FC centuries made by Stoinis this year = 0. Made by Faulkner = 1. Yeah, can't make a run.
269 runs at 33. Since that tin I don't think he's gone past 20. I would have picked Moises.

what lehman has said today,(ben horne) they have just realised they are playing on spinning pitches, and they will bring in a spinning alrounder
to bat at 6 Agar/ Maxwell . Stonis will become one of there look outs in the stands

Better than **** all at **** all. I would have picked Moises too if they wanted an allrounder but he's barely bowled and a trundler. Just pick a batsman who can face spin and be done with it. The allrounder obsession is pathetic. 3 allrounders on one tour - has anyone ever done that before?

Batting average of 15, bowling average of 39. People have the nerve to suggest selectors prefer NSW players. Absolute insanity.

No, they only ever pick NSW players if there is a spot in the XI, they always pick Victorian players if they just want a drinks waiter so clearly they will play Agar in the 3rd test and Stoinis is there as insurance

It's a misnomer to call them "allrounders' - 'not quiters' is more appropriate. Not quite good enough batsmen or bowlers. You can throw Wade in that group as well

Which is why it was insane to all but name marsh a week out from the test before they even got a look at the pune track, you pick your squad to cover all bases yes of course but you then pick your starting 11 once you actually see the pitch.

Now surely he wasn't expecting Head to be picked to replace a medium pace all rounder? Surely even the SA fanbois could see there are already 2 spinning all rounders over there and they weren't going to pick another?
Pretty sure I said Henriques in an earlier post.

In fairness Bushrangers players are barely qualified to run water so they should be happy. Regardless, Maxwell will play alongside Wade and Handscomb so..

Well Handscomb had to get a double century against the all mighty NSW attack to even get noticed and he made his mark pretty quickly! A NSW batsman needs to average less than 10 over at least 3-4 tests before dropping is ever considered and even then they are pretty unlucky to lose their spot

But they will go Agar in the 3rd test, nothing surer.

Not saying they should (I don't think he's ready yet), but I'm surprised they're not rushing Jack Wildermuth over there. A century in this Shield round, and a 5-fer and two 40+ scores in the previous match, along with the Queensland youth connection with Trevor Hohns and Greg Chappell, would have thought he'd be in the conversation.

lost the 2nd test in a few different ways. some easy runs given away in the morning, maybe not enough endeavour to score on that dour day, as gripping as it was. not able to get enough of a lead on the 3rd morning.
the reviews in the 4th innings - you can't say the outcome would have changed if we gambled differently. mind you, the pitch as it was meant you should probably review, you may never get another contentious one capable of being reviewed, could lose the rest of your wickets bowled or plumb in front.

i don't want to heap too much shit on marsh, but his spot in the team is wasted. the spinners have been too successful for smith to bother bowling him - but if he was a known wicket taker he would have had to bowl a hell of a lot more than he has. he's there to trundle and rest the other bowlers if india get away and run up 500, not to actually take wickets. which clearly isn't really why you should pick an all rounder.

again, don't want to sound too disparaging because i hope he can come back in the future, but i'd rather anyone else at all from the squad be picked, including bird. at least bird would get a bowl. marsh is our very own mid 90's english bitser.

edit: just read that marsh is injured and out, and stoinis came up out of the hat. well, i guess it doesn't mean he'll actually play.

This is genuinely worse than the Maddinson selection for mine.

Some of the Shield attacks are pretty weak and some of the pitches obviously extremely flat
And yet Stoinis still can't ****ing make runs

Victoria's chances of winning the shield have just been boosted
