I agree, ever since we have tried to invent an all-rounder it just weakens the side. a mate said "if your top 4 bowlers cant bowl the opposition out
the 5th bowler certainly wont . Surely our player ,after all there years of practicing in the nets, if you needed 6/8 overs one of our top six batsmen could bowl. Khawaja certain starter in my eyes. (even Watto was marginal in test as an allrounder , I rate him bloody highter than Marsh)

These wickets could not suit Steve Smith more. He should be bowling. 2-3 overs before every break, that's plenty of overs in the day. He's the perfect bowler for Indian wickets. Doesn't spin it a lot and doesn't spin every delivery, like Michael Clarke he's ideal.

India bring the spinners on in the first 10 overs anyway, usually before any wickets are down. Khawaja at 3/6, it's pretty irrelevant.

They do, they also bowled their quicks a lot last test. Doesn't matter we can lose early wickets. Khawaja is typically a number 3 or an opener in my eyes anyway.

hes played 6 tests you peanut lmao
Wow such a stinging riposte. SOK has underwhelmed at Test level, you cannot deny that. But he is there whilst all us armchair selectors and experts are on Bigfooty talking shyte. One good Test and everyone wants a dry shag. Personally I don't think he is the answer to our spinning woes, I have stated who I thought would be better but that's just me.

please don't tell me cummins is going to get a test

He's the best replacement we have for Starc. Bird is just Hazelwood minus 15kmph.

We need some genuine pace.

Yep this pitch is gonna keep low. Haze and Bird should be the attack. Bowl at the stumps.

Take out the 12-70. Not overly flattering.

Still better than any alternatives and he has the best FC average of any spinner in Australia period

Cummins getting a game for Australia as a ring in ahead of bowlers already in the squad  talking about being kissed on the dick and i will say it, if Pat Cummins played for South Australia and not NSW he wouldn't be anywhere near the Australian cricket team ( see Maddinson ) one game in 6 years = doesn't deserve to be even in a test squad let alone as a ring in.

Rubbish. A bloke bowling 145kmph+ who swings it will always get chances. Plus he's a decent enough lower order bat and very good in the field. He's always going to get chances whether he's from NSW or QLD, SA, whatever.

Correct. First class doesn't always translate to Test success. Good luck to him, he has done more than most blokes who post here.

I'd rather pick SOK rather than have a Haul Mary on Zampa with a FC average of 50 odd!

Why is he on the tour then?
That's a really good question. Irrespective of his form in Sri Lanka, Usman had earned a second chance in India. I don't understand why he'd be on the pines and our obsession with all rounders would continue.

He's fair dinkum awful when the ball spins. Not sure he's shown an ability to improve this.

Plus he can bat a bit, which to the selectors means he's bigger than Jesus.

To be fair you need batting depth in India especially if you have Marsh and Wade at 6 and 7!

He doesn't swing the ball. What a lie

If they don't think he can handle the conditions why not take a guy they think can? Just kinda pointless picking him to then play a guy who can't even cut it at first class level over him.

Give me a spell, he is a boy wonder who's name has been put up in lights, plays for any other state and he doesn't see any aussie team coming back from years of injuries. Name me one just one other player who has been thrust into the test team on the back off 1 game in 6 years just one. The selectors play favorites and they always will.

And just on the speed thing, one of australia's all time greats could barely crack 135 yet Brett Lee could crack 160 and never took 10 for in a test, speed aint everything.

Starc bowls 145+ and he wasn't dominating. Genuine speed being needed is a myth. Getting in the right areas is what's needed. Don't get on their pads. Cummins is there because they want to hang their hat on something.

If he gets injured and misses another 12 months. They should all be sacked
