out bully Warner (its all about me)
In usman

out okeefe ( one test wonder
in agar
out m marsh
in J Bird ( will be a better bAT than marsh)

Head is too loose for me. Another poor and lazy dismissal today in the Shield.

The logical choice (for home conditions) is Shaun to 6 and Usman back in. The issue is Usman's ability against spin. People need to realise that the selectors not picking him for the first 2 Tests is a big indicator of how little they rate him over there. Maxwell will produce similar lazy dismissals like Head, sure, but at least he has the saving grace of being able to play spin over there if called upon.

I said it yesterday and will say it now as well, why did they even bring him on tour then if they rate him so lowly that he can't get a gig over a badly struggling bloke who averages just 21 with the bat?

Why not just bring another frontline batman on tour that they think can play spin better than usman?

To me it honestly feels like when you go to the pub and there's that one friend you just have to invite because it would be too awkward not to.

This way they can have their cake and eat it too. He's obviously still in the frame, and selected at home, but not selected ahead of 'horses for courses' in India.

inb4 he gets picked for the next Test and I'm exposed for the overthinker that I am.

Big call, I'd agree if we were playing at home, but a quality keeper in India is a must, and Wade is a better keeper, and you also have ti factor in how keeping would affect Handscombs batting, not an easy gig being a test keeper, it becomes twice as hard in India.
To be honest, I'd be happy with just M.Marsh being replaced with a genuine top 6 batsman; I think his inability to perform puts too much pressure on guys like Wade, Starc and the rest of the lower order.

Like your idea of bringing in another Bater,(i know the selectors wont) George Bailey,(34) is extremely expirenced both in pressure batting and India
pitches , he is inform having scored 200 N.O. against NSW
greg chappell and lehman told him he was too old , so he scores 200

It seems to be down to whether it's Maxwell or Ussie for Marsh. Am I right in thinking the selectors said before the series that they will rethink the squad now?

We could do that with Aussie teams of the past because we always had a frontline batsman who could bowl seam, Waugh-Symonds-Watson, this team doesn't have that luxury.

I'm happy for Marsh to go, but he has to be replaced with someone who can bowl.

He could just be there in case SMarsh fails or breaks down again or one of the top 5 gets injured, but it would take a drastic change in selection policy for him to suddenly replace Mitch Marsh

Got to have a solid top 6. Non-negotiable from here on. Despite admirable showings in 3 out of 4 innings, have never really looked totally convincing with the bat. Highest partnership of 83, which was the first of the series (Warner/Renshaw). If we have to bat second again, we really have to be able to bat 2 days, either to get the draw if India have piled them on as well, or to get a lead that doesn't expose us batting last.

Why?

The skipper doesn't use his 5th bowler anyway and on these decks we certainly don't need 3 quicks, i was sure marsh was picked for this tour because we thought we would get the decks england got but on these decks he really made no sense at all.
Yeah but the first 2 tests have belonged to the bowlers, if we get a half decent batting pitch you can spend over 2 days in the field, and that saps your bowlers in India, if you have to rely on a net bowler as your 5th option you're going to find yourself in a world of hurt.

Agar / Maxwell add alot more than Marsh. Even when he does bowl he ain't much chop. He has lost a yard of pace too.

Out - Mitch Marsh
In - Agar/Maxwell in order of preference. Wouldn't be against Usman being picked either but he must be in the top 3 in my view and idk where he fits.

Wade needs more runs, his 40 odd in the first innings was basically his first score since his return. That said his keeping hasn't been horrible so that is a plus.

I thought Marsh was under bowled in the previous test TBH, he's a better bowler than Maxwell and I wouldn't play 2 orthodox left arm spinners so that rules Agar out (just IMO).

I guess we wait for the final pitch report, I know we get some roads here but there's nothing quite like an Indian road, triple centuries aren't that uncommon in India, they're a rare thing in Australia though, if it looks like a good batting strip I'd probably lean towards Marsh, but if it looks like a bowlers pitch id go Maxwell.

I don't have confidence in Marsh even on an absolute road. He just doesn't deliver when we need him. I'd trust him if he came when we were 4-500 and needed a quick 50. Thats it.

If we had got pitches like that then maybe a 5th bowler would make sense but we didn't and we have to assume we won't for the series, if we turn up and it's flat fair enough we might need a number 6 who can bowl but it isn't a must have on all pitches in india.

I want to see Wade put under some serious heat. His keeping has been better than anticipated but his batting doesn't cut the mustard.

I heard that Nevill went over shortly before the first test when Wade was under a fitness cloud but not sure if his still there.

Realistic changes - I don't think Mitch Marsh will hold his place in the XI. Silly move if his picked and would be best replaced by Khawaja (to # 4 and S. Marsh to # 6) however that leaves us a bowler short with none of the batsman except for Smith offering many overs. Maxwell and Agar wouldn't make a massive difference with the bat if picked.
