Season average of 25 suggests that just isn't true.

Hogwash. Again he has barely played FC cricket. 3 matches, 5 hits (two of which he was told to throw the bat for quick runs).

He is a good cricketer when given a chance to show it, in the last season or two he hasn't had a lot of opportunities to show it.

Think we have a turd sandwich vs giant Douche situation here.

Unfortunately couldn't get the image to load :(

Maxwell is a gamble cos if he comes off it changes a game but so often he doesn't fire
Stoinis is a gamble cos he has no form behind him but more capable of grinding out an innings

It's never Maxwell's fault.

Please, enlighten me as to who is at fault for him making 0 batting first drop and losing his middle peg against that Indian third xi a few weeks back.

Bat have a hole in it? Not told early enough he was batting 3? Bowling unfair?

The facts are, we only have 5 top class batsman in these conditions.

After that it falls off a mighty cliff
You see I find this idea frustrating. Batting in cricket is a mind game. You watch the ball in the air and watch how it hits the pitch and you hit it with your bat. The kids who make it to the elite level have all mastered that. Why then do they forget everything all of a sudden when they have to play Test cricket?

It's never Maxwell's fault.
So how's he supposed to get form playing 1/4 of the innings he could be each shield season. Come on genius explain that one...

I'll wait. He's nearly always in the ODI side each Jan-Feb and sometimes in ODI sides before the season starts in Sept.

Sheffield shield innings

13/14: 12 (ave 45)
14/15: 1 (ave 53)
15/16: 9 (ave 56)
16/17: 5 (ave 26)

If CA stopped ****ing him around with meaningless ODI's they'd get a test no.6 in time.
14/15 was fair enough, he was playing in World Cup warm up series'

Unless Australia are playing ODI's in Fitzroy your argument is completely irrelevant.

Wow. Stupid comment-o-meter off the charts... Fitzroy?!?! WTF?!?!
Every season CA schedules ODI's/T20I after the Sydney test. Fact.
This is concurrent with the resumption of Sheffield shield cricket. Fact.
Maxwell is in the ODI side in recent seasons. Fact.
Ergo he misses shield matches. Fact.

He's competed in 27/82 innings since 13/14 which is a fraction under 1/3. One in three innings available in 4 ****ing seasons.

Who were Australia playing in coloured clothing at the start of the Shield season?

Only asking because you've said it's the only way Maxwell misses Shield cricket, and he wasn't in the Shield side. Also boggles the mind how Maxwell can have all those amazing Shield seasons, yet have a sub-40 career average. How weird.

You're the one making up shit that's he's not good, that's been debunked.
He misses shield cricket every Jan-Feb and has missed shield matches early in the season too but not every season.

Maybe research the player in question next time before shooting from the hip over a 5 inning seasonal average :thumbsu:

He is talking about when Maxwell got dropped for trying to leave Victoria because being a brainless idiot 99% of the time, he knew if he played for NSW he would be in the test side before the summer was out

Facts are facts. He averages 25, and when given the responsibility of batting first drop to press his case for a Test spot he loses his pegs for 0. Apologies for not thinking he's the best ever.

As for research, ironic given you didn't get the Fitzroy reference. You know, where Maxwell played while Victoria played Shield cricket.

Maybe if he didn't try to leave 120 days after the cut off point he'd actually have a case to press forward. Once again though, not his fault I imagine.

Who said anything about best ever. No one, just that he's not crap and as was the original discussion is FAR better than Stoinis. Which is really all that's relevant as that should be the two options here.

He missed 1 game, big ****ing whoop. He's missed far more on national duty, where the long term trend line shows his form is more than adequate.

Maxwell averages 40 in FC cricket from 47 matches. An OK but not amazing record.

Stoinis is averaging ~15 over a full shield season.
