At the start of the first test there was talk that Renshaw would get dropped as he didn't play spin well.
Agar shows he can bat at home, if Lyon can take 8 wickets and and SOK can take 12 wickets. He wouldn't be a bad option to tie up one end.
He's made first class hundreds. Can slog if we need quick runs. He almost made a hundred on debut in England.
80% of the wickets will come from spinners.

Mitch Marsh on the other hand is a poor man's Ben Stokes/Jacque Kallis.
Id rather a Shane Watson back in at 35 YO, at least he gets avg of 30 runs and 8/10 times LBW/Bowled.
Not sure what the selectors see in him - had so many chances, don't think I've ever seen him play a good game yet.

Nevill playing SS today in Sydney

Thought as much.

Guess it can be ruled out that Nevill comes in for the next test, even if Wade should get a massive kick up the rear end.

I like Peter Handscomb at 5 without the gloves. No change to the keeping situation just get it in Wade's thick batting head that he needs to be a leader and in situations like today graft an innings, build a partnership and turn the strike around like he did good enough in the first innings with a 40.

I garuntee you Head would be a better No.6 than M.Marsh, Maddison and the somewhat unlucky Cartwright.

Dubious on Cartwright.

That's the sad reality.

You can argue changes until the cows come home but really whoever wins the toss will win the game.

In the 2010 tour (2 tests) and 2013 as well (6 tests), Ponting and Clarke won all 6 tosses, yet lost all six games. Some of them were innings defeats.

So that excuse doesn't hold much weight at all.

And what about in total tests between teams of evenish skill? How many teams who won the toss go onto win?

You can nitpick all you like, but my post is the most relevant example in the current context. Winning the toss six out of six times this decade against the same team we are playing now didn't mean we could draw a game, leave alone win.

I would be more interested in how often India has been beaten at home after winning the toss.

People really think Khawaja would be any better than Mitch Marsh on these pitches?
Yes. One can actually bat, the other is Mitch Marsh.

Khawaja's record on these pitches is no good, but then Khawaja is actually a class player and class players can improve and adapt.

Marsh is just plain not good enough.

Are you sure? Khawaja is not a class player. He's a flat track wonder. That's it. He also has an inability to play the ball for singles often enough and that is a cardinal sin on spinning pitches.

I think the only change required is M Marsh to be dropped. He is in there as an all rounder but isn't being used to bowl and batting not good enough to be played as a batsmen.

S Marsh keeps his spot with his great first inning and was unlucky in the 2nd dig.

Wade's keeping has been pretty good for dealing with these pitches. Hasn't missed too many opportunities (would say Saha has missed more) and done well to keep the byes down. His first inning in the 2nd test was very good.

Don't think you can look at the batting averages and say batsmen need to be dropped. Only Rahul, Smith and Renshaw have decent averages this series.
