Meh, Henriques played well in Chennai on the last tour. He sucked in Sri Lanka but that was poor selection, if you pick a bloke coming back from injury he's going to be underdone.

With his current form he's a good option even as a pure bat. You could argue Cowan or Bailey are better, but let's be honest, we know they don't have a hope in hell with this selection panel.

Didn't Cowan struggle v. Swann in England?

I'm all for playing Maxwell at 6 to piss of Wade :D but seriously he can play spin and FC is decently good.

And an average of 22 from 16 innings against India is consistent is it? I wouldn't have thought so.
Take out his average from 5 years ago when he was in woeful form and see what it looks like then
Khawaja in to bat at 4, S. Marsh to bat at 6.

As for the squad replacement, my guess if it's an all-rounder would be Stoinis and I really hope not Moises.
Stoinis shouldn't be in the Victorian team. Seriously. His average has been abysmal this season. Moises has been in good form in the shield, whereas Stoinis in NZ was the outlier to end all outliers

Henriques is in top form absolutely. Off the back of a double against QLD IIRC and amongst the runs against SA.

I'm just not keen on the selectors reinvigorating his test career.

Who would you pick instead though? The bloke averaging 20?

Never happy to see someone injured, but he needed to be dropped. This makes it a certainty.

Khawaja in at 3, Smith to 4, Marsh to 6.

If the pitch is such a batting paradise that we deperately need a 5th bowler, Maxwell in as a straight swap for Marsh.

Why should we shuffle the batting order just to accommodate Khawaja?

I prefer Smith having some protection and think that Khawaja plays his best cricket at 3. I don't really care where he bats though. Even happy for them to shuffle as the situation dictates, something they seem hesitant to do.

Wade needs some runs as well. Our 6/7 have given us nothing for a long time. Not sure that Nevill is the answer but he has done everything the selectors could have asked - gone back to the Shield and peeled off runs.

Meanwhile Wade since his recall...

  • 4 and DNB Vs SA in Adelaide
  • 7 and 1* Vs Pak in Brisbane
  • 9 and DNB Vs Pak in Melbourne
  • 29 and DNB vs Pak in Sydney
  • 8 and 20 vs Ind in Pune
  • 40 and 0 vs Ind in Bangalore
The 20 and 40 on this tour are enough to retain for the next test, especially given that his keeping has been surprisingly good. But he was brought back as the superior batsman and 4, 7, 9, 29, 8, 20, 40, 0 aren't going to cut it for much longer.

Usman in for injured Marsh.
Nothing radical required, we lost on the back of bad fielding in the 2nd Innings and have used 4 bowlers in the last 2 tests which have not let us down.

Can anyone explain why Smith can't be the fifth bowler? I reckon he goes ok.

Be consistent, if you're allowed to use Khawajas form against india from 4 years ago, I can use Marsh's. It's a moot point, Shaun shouldn't be dropped but lets not make out that he's this sub continent god like you're making out. You guys love to use Usmans past form as a reflection of how good he CURRENTLY is at playing spin, So I just used Marsh's career form against India (Which is absolutely putrid).

Usman was shit in Sri Lanka less than a year ago while S Marsh was good

They are even more in love with the general idea of the allrounder than they are in love with mitch marsh, they just feel that number 6 spot is a free roll where you can try whatever experiments you feel like and the fact that our soft middle order has cost us series after series never seemed to bother them as much as the thought of only having 4 bowlers.

It's like their petrified of starc or hazelwood breaking down that they have a very expensive insurance policy by just picking some guy at 6, in case one of the following happen:

A) India decide to bat for 5 days without declaring and we can't get them out, meaning our high performance managers will self combust with starc and hazelwood being overworked.

B) starc / hazelwood breakdown early on in a match. Meaning the guy who basically never bowls when an innings lasts 100 overs will suddenly bowl 20/30 overs.

So the all rounder is like a stupid insurance policy. We sacrifice a batsmen based off a worst case scenario which may happen one every 20 tests. And when that worst case scenario happens your sort of screwed anyway
