Apologies if this has been discussed already but the fact that M Marsh needs to have a full shoulder reconstruction and will not be ready in time for the Ashes is ringing alarm bells for me. If his shoulder is that bad why was he picked for India in the first place? When did he actually do the injury? If it was after the second test then fair enough but no one is saying that, rather that he had 'aggravated' it which suggests it was not 100% in the first place so therefore he shouldn't have been selected. Is this why he wasn't bowled for more than a few overs? Surely not...

He missed the end of the one day series here because of a shoulder injury but was then picked as bowling cover for this series..see my earlier post for my thoughts

Local conditions. It is hot as hell coupled with lack of money and facilities tripled with a bit of home ground pitch doctoring. Play the conditions. India's equivalent of the WACA. Why not just go 3 spinners? Horses for courses.

I agree conditions are totally foreign and unexpected but that is Test Cricket. It is not as if a gun is being fired at 20 paces. And both sides play on it.

My 11 if reports are true:
1 Warner
2 Renshaw
3 Smith
4 S. Marsh
5 Maxwell
6 Agar
7 wade
8 Swepson
9 O'Keefe
10 Lyon
11 Hazlewood

If a win is all that matters and this is a Golden achievement (which it is) you simply need to pick the best 11 relevant to who is available and conditions. Granted this contradicts everything I've posted previous but you pick the best 11 to win.
Why the hell would you not play Handscomb but Agar and Maxwell at 5 and 6?

Does it matter if he is ready for the ashes in time? I mean seriously if CA played him for that series after his last 20 tests... they should be immediately sacked by the Government for embarrassing the nation.

5 spinners, 3 batsmen, 1 fielder, 1 wheelie bin and 1 pace bowler?

Sucks that Swepson is a genuine number 11 bat. Because I think he could actually be very effective although Agar may get nod over him

No not at all. My point in mentioning that was just the time it is going to take him to recover, i.e. not until after The Ashes starts (how it has been reported in the media).

Thanks, had forgotten about that. Clearly should never have been picked then. (Yep, found your earlier post).

He was asked but declined....

Why would u go and bust your nut...jeopardise ur career to go bowl on the shit they are dishing up. I understand your opinion on it but if he doesn't reckon he's fully right there is no point going. I'd prefer that than him going and busting himself up

We are not going to play 5 spinners. We've also been playing pretty well, far better then our last tour so why would we throw out all the good work with this experimental XI that seems like the type of XI we'd put out on the park if India had made 500+ in our previous games.

Warner
Renshaw
Smith
S. Marsh
Handscomb
Maxwell
Wade
O'Keefe
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood

That seems like a more realistic XI. Not sold on Maxwell but I'd much prefer him to Stoinis and Agar. Don't feel Cummins is ready either but I don't think Bird will have a lot to offer on these pitches with Hazlewood playing.

100% this is the team and I don't think it is a bad one at all

That makes him smarter than the selectors (if he was, in fact, asked). Both Patto and CA should be acutely aware of his injury history and limited return thus far (BBL and four Shield games). Finishing this season, resting and training over winter, and Shield in October/November is exactly what he should be doing.

He's also playing county this winter

Knowing our selectors the only thing they will take out of the marsh fiasco is that in the future they need more allrounders in the side as bowling cover for the 1st allrounder so marsh might still be in the mix for the ashes.
