Knowing our selectors the only thing they will take out of the marsh fiasco is that in the future they need more allrounders in the side as bowling cover for the 1st allrounder so marsh might still be in the mix for the ashes.

I will be very disappointed if Mitch Marsh cannot play in The Ashes

At least wheelie bin is durable and won't break down mid test.

Can also hold the bat. If placed at the correct angle.

Things we need to win.

Win the toss, bat first and set a good score. Win the toss and win or not lose the first innings by much and we win. We have the bowlers to do the job and the pitch looks like one where the toss will be super important.

Do NOT play an all-rounder. Under no circumstances can we weaken our batting. Playing an all-rounder has hurt us enough and offered us nothing. We got away with it because Starc batted really well and without him our batting takes another hit and that's another reason to avoid playing an all-rounder. No Starc, the likelihood of a short test, playing two spinners, there is just no room for an all-rounder, it's dumb selecting.

Cummings. His pace and ability to handle a bat makes him a good option to replace Starc. The one thing we have right regarding selection is the variation in our bowlers. Smith and Lyon being very different types of spinners and Starc and Hazlewood also being fairly different bowlers. Cummings provides the bit of extra pace and a bowler who can bat a bit.

Khawaja. Was in great form, yes it was here but he should have played every game. Get him in and bat him early, bat him at 3, push the rest down.

Why should he bat higher up the order when he's clearly rated behind all other batsman, can't see it happening.

aggh temperamental souls like yourselves should know what the hits are and when it is winding up to sink the boot...

glory be where are these stupid oxymorons coming from.?

catch the ball while you're at it. dude..

Because he bats better against the newer ball and quick bowlers than he does against the spinners. The others handle spin a lot better. Think he'd make a lot more runs at 3 than 6. Don't think it would effect our other batsmen as much to move down.

India bring the spinners on in the first 10 overs anyway, usually before any wickets are down. Khawaja at 3/6, it's pretty irrelevant.

I have zero idea wtf you're talking about.

I agree, ever since we have tried to invent an all-rounder it just weakens the side. a mate said "if your top 4 bowlers cant bowl the opposition out
the 5th bowler certainly wont . Surely our player ,after all there years of practicing in the nets, if you needed 6/8 overs one of our top six batsmen could bowl. Khawaja certain starter in my eyes. (even Watto was marginal in test as an allrounder , I rate him bloody highter than Marsh)

Watson was not marginal in Tests as an allrounder, easily up to standard. Compare his stats with other allrounders of similar ilk and he stacks up very well.

The side wasn't really weaker with Marsh in ahead of Usman. His work in Sri Lanka on turning decks was woeful.

The problem is they kept batting Watto in the top 4. Even though he had a great couple of years there as an opener, he should've moved down to No.6 with his form and injuries keeping him in and out of the side and disrupting the whole batting line-up. I'd kill for a typical Watson 30-40 start at no.6 nowadays thats for sure. With an average of 35 with the bat and just above 30 with the bowl, he was actually a fairly decent all rounder. It's just he was always compared to specialist batsmen because he batted in the top 4.

Anyway, getting back to this tour. I still think we need to add a specialist bat in Usman. If we win the toss, we need to stack on as many runs as possible. Bat second, we're gonna need every run we can get so we're not left doing all the work in the second innings when the pitch is an absolute minefield as I will expect it will be after day 2.

It's not like our bowlers have been working overtime that they need a rest. India haven't made 300 yet have they? Neither have we. It's been a bowlers dominated series (refreshing change I have to say).

I still think I'd rather see Bird come in for Starc. He's been bowling in the nets all series and he will have settled and accustomed to the conditions by now. Deserves his spot in the XI.

if the media is correct, sounds like we're punting on Maxwell
Doesnt necessarily mean anything, the media love maxwell they want him to play so they can crap on about reverse sweeps.

For me maxwell & warner in the same team doesn't work. Need another batsman that can occupy the crease.
