Ashwin as well seems to be carrying a finger injury and hasn't been his usual self either.

It would be a huge gamble to bring in Swepson for instance and also get more overs out of Maxwell. But it's perhaps the sort of gamble we'd need to take to win the series.

Conservative approach would be to keep it the same and try to bowl tightly enough to draw.

You would assume Agar would play as he got wickets in the tour game and runs. If Lyon is our Agar strengthens the batting anyway.

Yeah possibly. Just thinking that O'Keefe and Agar are too similar

It would be way too much of a gamble to play Swepson in a decider. He's not ready. Agar is a taller spinner so him and SOK are different.

Bird in for Lyon if his hand is giving him grief and he's going to be a pizza pie chucker.

Depends on the pitch imo. A bouncing turning pitch and there's no way Lyon gets dropped.

3 seamers in India seems overkill though, I just can't see that being a winning formula. Yes this is more seam friendly but I can't see it being much more than the SCG, and we've played 2 spinners there the last few years.

I guess wait and see with the pitch.

Only need to play one spinner,S.SMITH,2 FOR 900 is not hard to top,Warner can be back up,dare I say Maxwell could be good for the odd over or two.
Play two extra batsmen...................yes I know, brilliant of me .........thank you....

I also hate the English language

what do you mean wtf, what part of lyon and sok taking fa wickets for a shitload of runs did I miss, they couldn't spin a yarn

You still need spinners in India.

They are not changing the side massively leading into a decider, would be beyond dumb.

SOK is our leading wicket taker basically and Lyon is high up too.

If Lyon went out for Agar then Maxwell would really have to bowl. 60 overs a day of left arm orthodox would be a bit predictable.

They are different types of left armers though. Not sure Maxwell will be needed a lot but more than 4 overs is a good idea

First and second tests our bowling innings were short because spin took wickets, third test our bowling innings was long and Hazlewood and Cummins bowled 83 overs between them. O'Keefe bowled 77, Lyon 46, Maxwell 4.

If we go in with 3 quicks then we risk an enormous workload on Hazelwood, Cummins and Bird considering we've been so reluctant to use the "all rounder" so far this series. It's a new test venue so there isn't much history to go on (some limited overs games) but I'd expect India to go in with Ashwin/Jadeja and the two quicks, with perhaps Shami replacing Yadav or Sharma. The only way they go in with 3 quicks is at the expense of Nair and treating Ashwin as a genuine all rounder.

Jadeja is a freak. I think a more apt comparison is ashwin, if he didn't look very threatening at all on that deck, how the hell were australian spinners going to.

My gripe is Lyon's economy rate. He's gotta be tighter. Sok does a bloody good job of keeping it tight.

Our only hope is going in with two spinners and bulldozing if the pitch offers the boys enough help.

If they produce a flat deck then we bat, and bat BIG if we win the toss. If we lose, we've got to repeat their effort and force a draw and retain dat trophy.
