Just read on the VFL player review that petterd travelled to and from Pert before playing.

Bate has to come in most likely for Dunn. Bennell for Maric, i can't believe Bennell get such an easy ride he fades in and out of games Maric has shown consistent form in the preseason and VFL he deserves a game. Belase and Petterd to play for casey again this week.

IMO we should make a statement and drop Davey, Jetta to come and apply some hard tackles and pressure.

Out of all the posts in this thread, yours makes the most sense to me. Not to say others didn't have merit, but this one hits the nail on the head imo. Even though I don't see Bate as a part of our future, bringing him in this week serves a number of purposes:
  • Rewards him for hard work and encourages him to continue working hard next time he is dropped
  • Puts a bit of fire under whoever is dropped for him, most likely Dunn who in the past has been a very hard working (defensively) forward
  • Gets Bate some AFL time to keep his name in the minds of the recruiters from other teams (just in case...)
The Maric one is a no brainer, and I am actually quite a big fan of Bennell's work but he is too inconsistent (I'd be equally happy for it to be Wonna going out). And the Jetta>Davey one makes a statement to all of our lazy arse players: if the most highly paid player on the list can be dropped, well shit I'd better start putting in some ****ing effort! It also sends a message directly to Davey himself.

Juice Newton in for structural purposes only. He can sit at full forward and provide a contest. Jurrah up the ground and getting involved in the play, of course playing deep as well. Maric in due to his superior fitness over Wona. Jetta as the sub to come in and play midfield/forward and provide plenty of tackling.

*shudder surely not

There is a reoccuring issue with our side all of our "tall" forwards have come under scrutiny on this site. For mine we need to at look why they arent performing well and i think you can directly relate this to the lack of Inside 50's we achieve.

Simply the ball is not getting down to the forward line enough, the quality of delivery is no good and quite often one melboure player will be against 2-3 opposition payers. Whoever plays accross half forward this week just sit back and watch them move to the ball (as opposed to the ball going to them) and you will see one of the main issues as to why they and ultimately the side struggle.

1. This also sends a message to the whole team & those playing at Casey that if you perform you will not be dropped & you will get elevated.

2. We need that pressure it always help lift the form of the individual & the team if you playing for your spot on the team. And if you apply point one to this point its not a fear tactic but a reward for effort system.

3. It can do that or it can give him the opportunity to cement a spot in the starting 22, which I am all for if you earn your spot to be there. We will see.

Herald sun trying to put some pressure on with the lead in to the thursday teams:

"Will the Dee's finaly promote Matthew Bate? Find out from 4:30."

Just saw that. As comically wrong as they are at times, I'd suggest they'd have a word he's in. Could be wrong

He's defintely in no doubt about it.

And much better than the headline the other week: 'Will the Dees drop Watts? See here at 4.30!'

That was terrible form!

I like the prospect of freeing up Grimes. In that case, bring Sam Blease in to play down back and have Grimes up the ground. Bate is a walk up start, with Aussie back out.

Cale Morton gets dropped until he learns to kick the ball properly. Seriously its worse than Cam Bruce!

Does Martin being dropped mean that Juice will play & be our second ruckman?

And why is Martin out? I have no desire for him to be dropped nor did I see it coming.

they'll use watts/dunn for forward ruck contests and warnock for defensive ones

warnock into the team makes sense... as adelaide have some strong defenders

martin and bennell out is interesting, i would have dropped wonna before jamie
