Burns out and Ussie to open. Burns has been ok at best in the last three tests but S Marsh has been great in his last two innings. Shouldn't be dropped.

Khawaja got burnt massively in Sri Lanka from the Marsh/Ponting replacement debacle and it took him over three years to properly regain his place in the team. If he misses out in this case, it will send a horrible message that injury is an excuse for one being dropped.

I like S.Marsh, but he has to go out. Khawaja is the incumbent, Burns deserves more time and M.Marsh's bowling is very underrated and is vital in balancing the pace attack.
Incumbent? He's played 2 tests, he isn't Ricky Ponting.

Is it mandatory to have an all rounder in the side? With a batting side like the West Indies at the moment you could probably afford to drop M Marsh and bring him back for another series. You could easily get 10 overs out of Smith & Voges if they want something else.

We have to pick the side that is realistically playing the away series against NZ. I would be shocked if we don't use Mitch Marsh in NZ where his bowling could be lethal. Therefore, it is 2 of S.Marsh, Khawaja & Burns.

On ABC radio Boof was pretty adamant he wanted 5 bowlers in the side, though why we need this against a laughably bad Windies and for a NZ tour that's bound to have greentops, is beyond me.

Khawaja deserves to keep his place. I suspect Burns' technique is too loose to open at test level but he's at least a chance of regaining form against the horrible Windies who have now lost their quickest bowler. S.Marsh misses out, stiff shit. Any player that's let Australia down as often as him deserves no sympathy from the selectors.

Siddle cooked, so NCN gets a run, though Bird is far more deserving and better for the balance of the team.

Pick that side when picking the side for New Zealand. The West Indies may be pathetic, but its still a Test and the best side to win that test should be chosen. M Marsh is not in that.
I wouldn't have him in NZ either. Pick six batsmen, not another Watson. As weak as Australia's batting is on anything except the roadiest of roads and the weakest of weak attacks, M Marsh is not in the best six to compile a good score.

Has this been confirmed or just rumoured in a newspaper report? They way Roach valued his wickets and embraced Bravo it looked like he cared and it would suprise me.

“I spoke to him last night and he said none of the quicks wanted to bowl from that southern end,” Tom Moody said on Fox Sports.

On Friday, another veteran Marlon Samuels refused to walk in with the bowler, standing with hands in pockets in the field until Australia finally declared.

Utter shambles.

If we are so desperate for that 5th bowler, why don't we just play another front line bowler then? Marsh is not up to batting in the top 6 and there are better options bowling wise.

After roughly the same amount of innings Pattinson has a considerably higher batting average than Marsh. Maybe his bowling will be handy in NZ? But I'm also sure he will be found out even more so with the bat over there.

Mitch Marsh stays. He has been doing his role with the ball. He didn't do anything wrong with the bat in Hobart. He just didn't get a chance.

I think Burns needs to stay and has done a reasnoble job. S Marsh is the one to miss in my opinion.

I think drop Mitch Marsh with the view to pick him for the NZ best XI.

Bring back Khawaja.

Burns and Shaun Marsh have two tests to prove who is best for NZ.

I'd be tempted to give NCN a run, maybe give Hazelwood a rest. If not then Siddle sits out. Not often I agree with Kram but it's pointless dropping M Marsh.

dropping a Victorian on Boxing Day?!

But, don't you think it sends a really bad message to omit a player who was in the XI and performing well, because he has been injured?
Not saying he necessarily shouldn't come back in but you pretty now much now have to do exactly the same thing to someone else to do it!

I think this is a myth. Marsh took his opportunity in the tour game and then immediately did well in the tests over there. What are the selectors meant to do in that instance?

Marsh has let down the team multiple times going around is it?. He went poorly in one match where everyone went poorly. When else has he done it?

It isn't a horrible message. Burns is opening well and Marsh well and truly deserves his place after his past two innings'. If anything it's a horrible message to say to Marsh that "well, you were brought into the side and even though you were the top and second top scorer in your last two innings' we'll go with Khawaja instead".

Looking at both games and given our win plus the opposition, the only change that may make sense is Khawaja for Burns, but only if we prefer him as a long term opener.

If O'Keefe plays in Sydney he'd replace Siddle or Coulter-Nile with M. Marsh required as the third quick.

Siddle might not be getting many wickets, but our attack looks balanced, while it helps that Johnson and Starc aren't in the same side I really don't see the need to make changes just for the sake of making them.

Have to drop Shaun Marsh.

At the start of the summer Khawaja and Burns were rated as superior options. Nothing has changed since then which should lead to the selectors re-evaluating that opinion because all three have scored.

And of course given the Ashes the priority should be to identify some younger players with a few strong shield seasons behind them (aka Burns) and giving them the opportunity to make the step up.

Tell Marsh that we're glad he performed and he'll tour New Zealand and if he continues scoring runs he'll be one of the players considered next time we have an injury vacancy or if a player's form warrants them dropping.
