changes for boxing day test.

His overall career stats suggest that simply won't happen. 1 first class century per year of first class cricket is just mind boggling. His career to date is a fair indication Marsh will never be the type of contributor required at test level. He will make a few timely knocks here and there but that's it.
Yes, you're right. Those ducks he made in 2011 are way more relevant than the 200 runs he has made in the last couple of weeks...

I think siddle is toothless,he is burden in the team.i doubt oz drops, Burns for Khawaja, must be problem to select xl.well tricky business to drops marsh for coulter Nile. Australia will be one bowler short if marsh m left out for Melbourne test.if I have to select team,i would rather select O'keffe in 11 for mebourne and also includes Mitchell marsh.if oz took 14 feeble W.I. wickets in 3 hour than its okayed to select team which I prefer.[ this only happen first time in 84 years between oz vs W.i.test. ]

Damon 3388,

yes oz should go with both Lyon and O'keeffe for Sydney if both Warrican / bishoo plays at sydney

Shaun Marsh was previously very inconsistent for WA as well.

In recent years he has consistently scored runs in first class cricket as well so I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers that consistency to test level.

That said after the Ashes we need to start seeing who can come in. Burns has a very good shield record over a number of years.

Like most people I can't see him developing into a test class opener. But if we're willing to open the batting with Khawaja (which is what dropping Burns means in this case) why not try out Burns in a more suitable position?

I do not thing Hope will open in test but I would very much prefer Dowrich [ 80 vs oz in W.I ] and carlos Barthwaite as allrounder even he is ODI expert in the team of xl. under such circumstances
samuels should not drops but he need to say good bye now, who scored his one half century out of so many innings in international.

well mix and match somehow.i do not think oz selector drops Burns for a while,he is doing good, smith scored 9 and 48 bats at 4, for him it dose not matter.
so my team for Melbourne test

warner
Burns
Khawaja
smith [ will bowl, 15 minutes before each break ]
Voges
shaun M
Nevill
pattinson
Hazelwood
Coulter Nile
Lyon

12th man
O'keffe.

if they drops burns and shaun open with warner
than SM will be bowled by taylor within 4 overs.
Australian were lucky during their innings with
no support from wicket, when W.I bats odd situation
of cloudy overcast.

Shaun Marsh has been dismissed for 3 or less in 40% of his 30 innings. Only Siddle (16 from 83 innings) has more than Marsh's 7 ducks out of players currently in the side. I'm also fairly sure that Siddle is the only player who's been dismissed for less than 10 more often (close to 50% of the time). To put it in perspective Lyon (who's largely batted at 11) has been dismissed for less than 10 in 30% of his 60 innings including 4 ducks. I knew Marsh had a bad record of low scores, but that's diabolical.

Because NCN is a better bowler? I'd be bringing in a batsman for Mitch Marsh personally but Lehman is adamant we need a fifth bowler. Marsh isn't a top 6 bat so why not just play the 5 bowlers instead of this all rounder fairy tale.

So we play a bloke who hasn't played a FC game in 12 months....that seems just so amazingly smart....NOT! NCN was a dreadful selection, how about lets not compound it by gifting him a test spot without him proving it at FC level.

I'm only repeating myself at this stage... but if we're going to play a bowling allrounder, I'm still adamant that it should be James Faulkner.

Mitch Marsh is our new Shane Watson. Someone just needs to teach him the review signal.

I have a theory that NCN was picked so we had a high profile 12th man, rather than testing out luck with the Tasmanian Gene pool.

It doesn't have to be NCN, if be happy with any bowler. I'd be happy to see Faulkner get a go ahead of Marsh as he's a better bowler. I just don't see the point of playing Marsh when 1. He isn't a top 6 bat and 2. He's not a front line bowler. Better off either picking a batsmen or just going for a 5th bowler.

A quick glance through your postings mate shows an even unhealthier obsession with Mitch Marsh than I have. ;)
I have nothing against the guy. He obviously has some talent and seems like a nice fella. My problem lays more with the selectors. I'd probably be saying the same thing if Henriques was batting 6. We played Watson for too long because we had a dream of having the next Flintoff. We managed just fine with 4 bowlers previous to that.

Keep the same team for Boxing Day. Win the Test and series. Rest Smith for Sydney (sorry mate, need you for NZ) and bring Khawaja back in for him then.

This.

As another poster said, Khawaja is not Ricky Ponting or Steve Waugh. He's not at the "well, he comes straight back in so someone has to miss out even if they don't deserve to" level yet.

Stick with this team. If (when?) we go up 2-0, we can rest Smith, and maybe Warner too, plus a few of the bowlers. Give Khawaja, Bancroft, NCN or maybe even O'Keefe a run in Sydney.

I don't really have an opinion one way or another... but I'm very interested in seeing what happens with Burns. Because Brad Hodge was dropped after relatively strong performances on the basis that his technique was questionable. Philip Hughes, too.

(I couldn't find the actual gif I wanted, of Obi Wan feeling faint on the Millennium Falcon, and I'm very disappointed in the internet)

Martyn, Clarke and Hussey provided a bit better competition than is currently present

Steve Smith has more scores in single figures in his last 15 innings than Shaun Marsh.
