Jackson Bird - 13 wickets from 3 test matches at a average of 23.30, economy of 2.87 and a strike rate of 48.6. Bird beats Siddle in all of those stats apart from wickets obviously.

In Bird's last test match (his first time in England for Australia) he took 2/58 and 0/67. Those stats are very close to what Siddle's looks like per game for Australia this season and I don't think I am reaching saying Bird would do better than that in Australia.

Mennie and Coulter-Nile haven't made their test debut yet but I would back them to do better than Siddle.
Bit of a stretch re Bird. Similar bowler to James Anderson and he's much better in England

Bird vs Coulter-Nile vs Siddle. Bird isn't in the squad but he could play the 3rd test. I guess you could try out one of the young guys since we are only playing the windies.

They have shown that they like Coulter-Nile so choose either one of Coulter-Nile, Bird or Siddle. Coulter-Nile and Siddle are the ones fighting it out for the Boxing Day selection but Coulter-Nile hasn't played much in the past 8 months.
So I still reckon Siddle should play in the Boxing Day test unless they want to try one of the younger player out.

I honestly think part of Siddle's problem these days is mindset. He's gone from the 'dog' of the attack that would snarl and get in batsmen's faces to a happy-go-lucky-perfect-teeth gentleman who sends down soft little nibblers for batsmen to feast on.

It's not mindset, it's just that he's a weedy little guy now. Should have stuck to vegetarianism, veganism has killed him as an athlete.

Has to bowl into the wind these days. That changes a man

Needs a steak, nobody is scared of a vegan.

Becomes vegan, immediately loses a ton of weight/pace and becomes a garbage bowler. Coincidence or cheddar?
Correlation is not causation. Many sources of protein besides meat.

Correlation is not causation.
If you understood that sentence, you'd also know that correlation can be suggestive of causation depending on circumstances.

Like I said, it's possible that a major dietary change was entirely coincidental to the guy immediately losing an absolute ton of weight and strength. It's just not very likely.

In general I agree but not many batsmen are feasting on him, the stats say. He's very economical. But to be honest I don't like turning on the cricket like I did last week to see the first few balls of the day waft down the pitch at 126kph.

He is bowling to crabs, which is helping. Imagine if it were the Saffas.

No change.

Only thing worth considering is resting Hazelwood, but as it will be another 3 day test and there was 2 weeks between Hobart and Melbourne it shouldn't be a problem.

I agree, he must be exhausted the young fella, he bowled in a match like 10 days ago and has played like 3 matches in a row. he would be struggling to get out of bed.
Seriously you have to be kidding right? What does he need a rest from? Training? Gym work? Golf? Fishing?

Just as an aside, it's a funny phrase 'correlation does not equal causation'. While strictly true, it also doesn't tell us much. Correlation is a good reason to look for causation, about as good as any in fact. Have you ever seen a cause? No. What you have seen is one thing consistently following another thing. Think about that.

Incidentally, Siddle has a better bowling average, strike rate, economy and number of wickets per game at the MCG in comparision to his overall career. So it's fair to say he enjoys the Boxing Day Test.

It'd be a change for the sake of it, ie pointless. On the same line of thinking, I'd be happy if Khawaja sat out this one.
